Quality accommodations, beautiful setting and great service

If Tripadvisor had half-star increments, I would likely give the Westin Reserva Conchal a 4.5 rating instead of 5. Since I only have the two options, I will give the property the benefit of the doubt and go with the full 5! I booked a 5-night stay for the first week of May, and overall I am incredibly satisfied with the experience, the value and the comfort offered. I opted for the adults only Westin Club area, and the room was excellent. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was superb. The lighting is the only aspect of the room that could be improved significantly. It was much dimmer than I am used to with hotels in the US. The AC and the ceiling fan both worked perfectly, and they needed to! My time there was full of bright sunshine, mid-90's temperatures and extremely high humidity. I found myself taking more breaks in the room to cool off and hydrate than I had anticipated. I didn't utilize the numerous restaurants the way I had planned. Faisanella offered a good lunch, as did Caracola by the main pool. The buffet, Mitra, was not quite as opulent at dinner as I would have expected, but the food was fine. Room service being so fast and easy, I opted for it, especially for breakfasts and again for dinners after long, tiring days. The traditional Costa Rican breakfast from room service is a must try! If I do get the chance to visit the Westin again, I will definitely sample more of the venues. Tours and transportation are super simple and can be arranged in advance or once you arrive. I used Erik G on the beach for transportation from the airport and to my hotel for the next part of the stay. I also booked the Palo Verde River boat tour through him and cannot recommend it highly enough! It was a great tour, and the fantastic Abel was a great guide. The boat captain was also superb, and I'm not positive I got his name, but I believe it might have been Alejandro. Either way, that was an excellent excursion full of wildlife and natural beauty! The best part of both the Westin, and Costa Rica as a whole for that matter, is the incredibly friendly people and the level of service offered. It puts the US to shame in that regard. There were many wonderful people who assisted me during my stay, but I would like to highlight Pedro who was friendly, helpful and engaging on a level above and beyond the rest at the resort!

Westin Reserva Conchal Bungalow with Platinum Club Level Access

This was our experience staying at the Westing Reserva Conchal in a bungalow, with Platinum status (so club level amenities). Grounds: The grounds are stunning! I loved to walk around all day long looking at the beautiful flora and fauna. It's like you're in Fantasyland. They work very hard to make sure everything is taken care of. There are monkeys all around and are especially active in the mornings and evenings. The iguanas that hang out at the adult pool are sooo cool! They are massive! I only caught a glimpse of the coati one evening by the main pool. I think they hang out there mostly. Amazing staff: I wish I could remember everyone, but shout out to Samual at activities- if you can stand a "hike" more like a walk until you get to the Iguana trail (it's a steep hike up, but for only 5 minutes or so). Samual took us on the best guided tour of the grounds and was so knowledgeable about the iguanas, trees, flowers, etc...and he was also super funny! Rebecca at Faisanella who always joked around with us and has the best smile! Nelson at the adult pool remembered our names and was so sweet. Gabriel and Gabby (see photos) were so wonderful too. The biggest shout out goes to Javier at the adult pool who took care of us and was just a genuinely kind person. I just love him to pieces! Accommodations: We stayed in the ground floor "basic" bungalow. I quote the word basic, because there is nothing basic about it! It's wonderful, with plenty of room and a fully stocked fridge. At first I was bummed that I didn't book the second floor, but after a day of drinking, I was glad I didn't have to maneuver the stairs at night! LOL! Adult pool: Super clean, loved the bridge. If you can, rent a cabana. It's only $70 per day if you are club level and sooo worth it, especially during the rainy season. It poured several times, and we just sat back and enjoyed the beautiful rain under our cabana. Also, it has a fan, which definitely kept it cooler. The only thing I wish is the music could have been better, but Pura Vida. :) Activities: As mentioned above, the Iguana Trail hike is a must, if you can handle a bit of an incline at the Iguana Trail part. You start at the activities center and your guide (ours was Samual) walks though the grounds and talks about the different trees, animals, etc...then you walk all the way to the Iguana Trail where you hike up to a beautiful look out! It's stunning! Sunset Painting was so much fun too! They give 2 hours to paint with multiple pieces to choose from. It's 2 hours long, which seems long, but I really didn't finish mine. These two activities are reservation required and they book up fast, so sign up in the app asap. We didn't do any other activities. Restaurants: Top 3- Cauri was, by far, our favorite. They are closed a few times a week, so check the app for days they are open. It is located in the lobby area and they open at 5:30. Get there early, because people line up! There is a reason for this- they have the best sunsets! Also, their food is mostly very good tapas, and if you eat beef, their ribeye steak is the BOMB! No upcharge! Faisanella has a very good breakfast (sorry, no children allowed and for club level only) as well as their lunch. I had the whole red snapper and YUM! Also, their dinner, which is open to all guests, is very good too. Spirula has delicious pizzas and their dinner is very good too! Imperial bar is fun and my husband enjoyed watching sports after dinner. Also, the Mitra Market gets pumping at night with silent disco, karaoke, neon party, and all kinds of fun (check app)! We were having so much fun, we actually rebooked our flights and stayed an extra night! Pura Vida! I can't thank all the wonderful staff enough for making our stay truly amazing. Everyone works so hard to make sure we are taken care of. Please tip. They 100 percent deserve it. Additionally, I just want to point out that even though it may seem like you're basically with a bunch of North American people at this resort, we are in another country. It's lovely if you could at least learn a few words in Spanish. A little goes a long way and is appreciated. It was sad walking past a North American person saying buenos Dias and having them not even try to speak Spanish back. Just my 2 cents. Pura Vida! We will be back!

    Awesome resort in Costa Rica!

The Westin Reserva Conchal was an amazing resort! The food was great and the staff are very friendly. The beds are very comfortable! We booked a catamaran and a hike to the waterfall with Erik G in the blue Google shirt on the beach at the Westin. They were awesome excursions and Erik was very accommodating. We will definitely stay at the Westin again!

    So far so good.

Half way thru the trip and the stay has been very good. The beach has been great for my two kids (10 &8) the Westin has so many workers willing to help out and majority always smiling. Erik on the beach with the google shirt helped arrange transportation in from Liberia Airport. We had pictures ahead of time where to meet the driver. We went to him for an excursion as well Leona waterfall and then tubing. Very glad we did. He said it would be something we will never forget and he was right. My wife was not thrilled when she found out there were 25 rapids to go thru but after the first she was smiling and laughing. Kids may have been a little young, but each person got a guide and Alex took really good care of my daughter. Eric will show you pictures ahead of time. The Westin has been great to work with as well. They accommodated us on a second floor request and have helped us with things to do.

    One of the Best!!!

Our party of 4 (2 rooms) stayed at Westin from May 1-8. We had all originally planned to come to Costa Rica in April 2020…which of course was canceled. This visit we decided to change from our original hotel, and we are very pleased that we made the change to Westin!! We booked a Club Room, which really made our trip the total success that it was. Check in is at the Club Lounge…a very relaxing place to start a vacation. They have make your own drinks, and snacks. Our room was very clean every day (turn down at night every night) and the temperature of the room was good and adjustable. The shower water was very hot and strong! We wished that there had been a grab bar in the shower-as it could be slippery, and sometimes the water leaked out onto the floor a bit when showering. The bed was very comfy-we slept well every night. Bergen was our concierge, and was helpful when we needed a shuttle to the front desk. Our room looked out into the woods-and since we were just coming off of dry season, it was very brown. Our friends’ room looked over the pool. At first, I was disappointed with the view-but after 7 glorious mornings of sitting out in the peace and quiet (our room 1212 was extremely quiet) on the balcony with coffee, I came to appreciate the view. We saw howlers (from a distance in the green trees), coatis, deer, red squirrels, birds, and heard peccaries outside one night-but couldn’t see them due to the dark. Speaking of animals-howlers were everywhere on property early AM and PM around dinner. They were so much fun to watch. The little pond near our Tower 1 building, as well as the trees in front of the building were prime places to see howlers. The red squirrels were fun, most active in the morning. Iguanas loved to hang out by our pool behind Tower 1. This is a restricted pool to Club guests-and we really enjoyed this pool. We found the food to be good. We went to every single restaurant, including the little place next to the Club Pool, as well as the little ice cream cart near the pool. By far…our favorite was Faisanella Mediterranean. Open for Club members only for breakfast and lunch, it is open to all for dinner. Manager Miguel, Dayana the hostess, and Rebeca the server were all very attentive and went out of their way to do what they could to make our stay better. The Mitra Market buffet was good-lots of choices, and one day they went out of their way to help me find guacamole by actually locating it and bringing it to our table (they had to find us in the crowd!!). Cauri (up at the Main check in area) has gorgeous views of sunset, and delicious tapas food. There are no reservations any more-and we jumped right into Bamboo our first night because we knew that it was a popular restaurant. Our least favorite was La Sabana Steakhouse-but we liked the restaurant that was there during lunch. You will not starve at Westin for sure (we also had tons of snacks in our room refilled daily!) The service The staff is incredible-nothing is too much to ask for! They would remember our room numbers and names with ease. The beach is entered by a narrow opening, so it is impossible to avoid the vendors. They are not aggressive-but are “overly friendly”. The beach itself is small shells. We forgot to bring water shoes-and it is necessary to walk comfortably. The sunsets over the ocean were perfect every single night!! We had a massage with the pink table arranged by Natale. $40, great massage…and we wish that we had done it a few times on the vacation. The breeze blowing and the waves crashing made for one hour of pure heaven!! Before leaving home we contacted Erik (located on the beach with the blue Google Shirt) who arranged both transfers and a 12 hour day of touring. Once we got there, we also used him to book a taxi to Brothers of Ale Brewing and a Lazy Lizard Sunset Catamaran Cruise. Every single person that we dealt with via Erik was professional, knowledgeable, on time, and friendly. Erik was excellent with reminders/tips the night before, as well as checking in after we completed an activity. Literally, if I texted a question the response was less than 1 minute later. It is so important on vacation not to have to waste time waiting for someone to respond to a request. We highly recommend him! Overall…a terrific week for our traveling group who just completed 13 trips to All-Inclusives. We have a lot to compare this resort to…and it simply was one of the best!
