    Must stay in Guanacaste.

Resort The resort is beautiful. You feel very isolated with a large property and small bungalows. We were in building 40 and the location was perfect. We were able to walk to the Westin Adults pool, beach, and all restaurants. We only really needed a golf cart in order to go to the lobby. The golf carts are extremely nice and we never waited long. The beach was beautiful. Definitely hit up Erik and Aaron for excursions. They are waiting just on the public side of the property on the beach. Customer service Customer service was top notch. Everyone was so engaging, respectful, and considerate. Every interaction was positive. Massage mafia and price Ok so first off, do the massages with the ladies on the beach. It’s $40 for an hour while you listen to the waves crashing. The only issue is there is a massage mafia situation going on. Our first day a lady yelled out to us asking if we wanted a massage. We just said maybe another day and that was the end of it. Another day we go up to get a massage with another lady and the original lady ran up and shows us a picture of my wife and I from the first day and says “is this you?”. We said “yes” and she then says “you’re mine. Come with me”. It looked like a celebrity paparazzi photo. Apparently they have a system of claiming people and then they also claim you for any future massage as well. We had no problem breaking that and going to other ladies but be ready for that exchange as the main lady will get heated and start yelling. It didn’t bother us though. Food Food was great. We went to Bamboo (Asian), Spirula (Italian), Faisenella (international), manglar (seafood) and all had top notch food choices. In my experience, Secrets all inclusives have better food but if that’s a 10 out of 10, this is definitely a 9 out of 10. I was worried a little bit about the food quality upon reading the reviews before visiting but I believe those didn’t align with our experiences. Marylyn and Armando costa horses If you want to ride horses on the beach, then Costa Horses with Marylyn and Armando are your people. This was a bucket list item for my wife. She was able to take them in the water , go through the town, and walk on the beach with them. They were very relaxed and allowed my wife to really have fun. They took amazing pictures and gave my wife the ultimate experience. Highly recommend. Pool Westin : cabana If you get a Westin club room or our platinum and above Marriott status, I highly recommend the adult pool. Going in September is an amazing time to go because it is technically the rainy season and occupancy was technically at 64% but it felt like 20%. The most amount of people that were in the adult pool at one time the entire week was somewhere between 15 to 20 people, it was amazing. I saw on the app. There was a flash cell for $50 a day for the cabana so we did that for two days. The service with that purchase as well is worth it. The drinks were 10 out of 10. Well mixed and very generous. Overall, this resort lived up to the hype and we definitely will be back. Thank you for a great experience.

Lovely time at the Westin Reserva Conchal!

My husband and I arrived at the Westin on September 11, 2024 and came home on September 19, 2024. We had a great time. The property is very clean and easy to walk from our room in Tower 1 to the beach, family pool and restaurants. Off property, the area is very under developed so we didn’t really venture out Room, Property and Facilities: Our room in Tower 1 was fabulous. We booked through Costo Travel and apparently got an upgrade which was awesome. Beware that the floors in the showers are very slippery when wet so we put down a towel to avoid falling. We did learn after arriving that you will NOT get any Marriott points if you book through a 3rd party. Our Concierge, Pablo, was very helpful and nice as were the staff at the Westin Clubhouse where free food and drinks are out all day until 7 pm if you need a snack and don’t have time to hit a restaurant. One day the cleaning staff forgot to restock our fridge (beer, juice and pop) so I called for some drinks and 3 different people came to bring drinks and to clean the room (which wasn’t the issue) so they are very attentive to guest needs. The grounds are lovely and clean and easy to walk, but if you can’t walk there are plenty of carts driving by that you can hop on/off if you didn’t call for your own. We felt very secure there. Security getting into the Westin is tight and although there is only a low wall separating Playa Conchal from the resort, we saw resort security there keeping an eye that locals from the public beach didn’t venture in. Also check out the trails on the property; the Iguana trail is great but you have to wear closed shoes to hike it during rainy season to navigate the mud. Excursions: My biggest issue was with Westin’s preferred excursion provider, Swiss Travel. We checked in with them on Friday about the Catamaran Snorkel cruise and two other excursions we wanted that could be any time Sat – Wed. We got the catamaran tour for Sunday but were told there were no other guests signed up for the others so we couldn’t even sign up (there is a minimum of 6) and had to keep checking back daily to find out what was available. The catamaran tour by Panache Sailing was lovely and the staff were awesome (Jessica, Justin, Kevin and Roy), but the snorkeling was not even good so I would skip it. By Monday the staff indicated the Hanging Bridge and Wildlife Rescue was closed until October (not noted in the brochure or told to us Friday) and the other excursion was only available the Friday after we were leaving. We had completely forgotten about Erik Garcia who is on the beach. Some people we met there were very happy with Erik Garcia’s tours so definitely check him out first thing as you may be disappointed with Swiss Travel and Costco (if that is who you booked through). The Costco excursion company (Destination Travel) doesn’t have translators. In fact, a couple we met who went on one said the driver had to use Google translate while driving! Restaurants: Getting reservations was never a problem; however on some days some restaurants were closed likely due to less traffic during the off season. You can either use the app, or call the concierge. We tried all the restaurants and found that our favorite was right next door…Faisanella with great ambiance, gin and expresso martinis, and food; big breakfast portions and people raved about the whole fried snapper served only at lunch. We had a great beef tenderloin, seafood risotto and mushroom ravioli at dinner. Manglar was next with fabulous tuna tartar, shrimp fettuccine and banana cheesecake. Spirula made a great martini (not so at all the restaurants or bars) and the house wines were nice as well. The rigatoni was good and the carbonara was delicious but too loose. The burgers at Caracola were perfectly cooked but the fries were cold. And Bamboo had stale wonton chips and awful drinks (tried to pass off a spicy Paloma as a spicy margarita) but the Halibut was cooked to perfection albeit missing a true portion size of black rice and veg. Several folks ordered sushi there so maybe that is their specialty (?). Mitra Market was very dependable for breakfast and I loved that they had a station making fresh chilaquiles (as well as omelets and benedicts)! The tuna and salmon tartar at dinner was delicious but a little too warm after sitting under hot lights (!) and you can skip the sushi at the Asian station as it was forgettable. Definitely get the pineapple upside down cake at the dessert bar; it was better than the carrot cake, cheesecake. Guillermo at the Mitra evening bar was awesome and started our drinks as soon as he saw us coming. Alexandra was the hostess at Mitra the first night there and asked about any special occasions. When I mentioned it was my birthday I didn’t expect anything but well wishes, but as we were finishing up dinner the team arrived with cake and sang Happy Birthday. The staff throughout the resort was so friendly…Fernanda at several of the restaurants and Bergen at the Club Pool were especially nice. But again, all the staff are so friendly you will feel very welcome there. BTW, room service will take at least 45 minutes. The club sandwiches and fries did arrive warm; however, you need to request mayo and/or mustard as none came with it so the sandwiches were served completely dry with no condiments on them. Beach and Pools: We spent most of our pool time at the Adult-only pool near the Faisenella restaurant. The quality there is 5-star with good bar service if you don’t want to do the swim up bar all day. A few days we had to wait for lounge chair towels but swim towels were always available. Although we had on our gold bracelets to indicate we paid for the premium liquors I still asked for Ketel One to make sure I got what we paid for. The Costa Rica Mojitos are delicious! And, they even offer complimentary sunscreen at that pool to help ensure guests don’t get burned. It was fun to sit back and watch the wildlife walk by…coatis, racoons, iguanas, lizards, …along with watching howling monkeys and the cutest variegated squirrel you’ve ever seen in the trees. The property is so large they only chase them off if they are annoying guests (which they rarely did except to investigate leftover pool food). The family pool by the beach is huge and had lots of activities going on. Although we intentionally went on the ‘shoulder’ season, there were quite a few kids and families there with LOTS of activities planned for kids and families. Playa Conchal is clean, lovely and huge. Westin provides chairs and other beach gear for guests to use. Even on the weekend when the locals visit, there is plenty of room and the vendors are nice and not pushy; just trying to make a living. After being disappointed by the Catamaran snorkeling we didn’t snorkel at the beach as we heard it was as lackluster. If you want snorkeling comparable to Hawaii, I suspect you need to go to the Caribbean side. All in all, we had a lovely time at the Westin and we would go back.

All my swimwear and cover up stolen

All my swimming wear was stolen and one cover up, I went with my fiancé on August 30th to September 2, I left all of my dirty clothes in a laundry bag. I left all of the clean clothes in my suitcase. My wet, worn swimwear was left out to dry. when I arrived home I found What? 3 swimwear gone and one cover up. I will never come back to that resort. If you decided to go make sure to put a camera in your room and locked everything. The sad part is that the last swimwear was stoled the night before we left when we went out for dinner.

A Paradise Getaway with Exceptional Service at Playa Conchal

We had an excellent vacation. The beach is very beautiful. You only need to swim a few meters - on the north side of the beach - to see fishes. I even saw a turtle between two rocks. The pool is gigantic, and there is always a spot with more or less shade. Another big contributor to the relaxation is the friendly staff, whether it's the person clearing plates at the buffet or the hosts at the restaurant. We were two adults in the Westin family category. Kevin, the concierge at the pool, does an excellent job, making the vacation feel like paradise. We stayed for 12 days. The servers even made an effort to remember our favorite drinks. Playa Conchal is public, but the people on the beach offering massages or excursions are friendly and only ask once if you're interested, without insisting. There is a great sense of security because everything is open, and only a small wall separates the resort from the beach. Special mention to Emanuel, whom we saw several times during our stay, especially during our lunch at Faisanela. Now for a realistic review with a few small flaws. The labeling of food at the buffet could better indicate whether it is vegetarian or not. The bathroom in the room is not really up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. The room’s area includes the balcony, which is private but also serves as the room’s entrance. Be careful not to lock yourself out if you forget the key inside when stepping out onto the balcony. **Tips:** - Download the app in advance or contact the hotel by email for restaurant reservations. We purchased the package through WestJet. We had to call the hotel to get our Marriott reservation number. - Bring special shoes for going into the water. There are sea urchins in the rock cavities near the beach.
