We bought a day pass to the pool complex. Beautiful facility but badly run. There was so little shade available that what should have been a leisurely day was turned into a competition for shaded chair space. We pitied the hotel guests. They were paying Westin premium prices to compete for chairs and pool space with day pass users like us. There were so many bathers in the pool with the large water slide that water quality was sub par. The smaller pool slide for younger kids was not managed by hotel staff. Instead, some kids were gathered at the top and adopted their own rules, which included sliding backwards, two at a time, etc. After a few hours of unrelenting sun we had had it. An additional annoyance was the nickel and dime atmosphere. We observed a guest asking for an umbrella for the attached beach but being told there would be a rental and installation charge. Inflatable float rings for kids were a real revenue source at $15 each! Altogether the feel of the place made us think the guests, expecting Westin, were getting Hotel 6 treatment.

This resort is fabulous! Not the cheapest, but you expect that in the Hawaiian Islands. However, you cannot fault the hotel. The friendly staff, the swimming pools, the restaurants, the facilities, and proximity to the beach all add up to it being one of the best resorts we’ve stayed at as a family. We stayed in the Hokupa’a tower (upgrading on arrival), which gave us as a family access to the Lanai spa and complimentary breakfast and pool area. This is a must in my opinion if you are booking this hotel, as it will save you money in the long run with food, beverages, and snacks ‘on tap’ during the day. From a food budget point of view, if you are getting a free breakfast and only buying a light lunch (from around the pool), then an evening dinner, we budgeted £200 per day. On average our evening meals were about £130 for the fours of us, then £40 - £50 for lunch. The hotel room overlooked the beach and was very large, with plenty of space to spread out. We are a family of four, and the room was perfect. Very clean and fresh with all the mod cons you’d expect for a top quality resort. We hired a car for just one day which was great to see a bit of the island. This was hired from one of the adjacent hotels where the hire company had an office. Hassle free and reasonably priced for a Jeep (great fun) £166 for 24hrs …this included the extra waivers for damage etc. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Maui, first class facilities with first class staff, who make you and your family feel special. The nearby Wailers Village is also very handy, with a mix of restaurants, boutiques, and general shops to by souvenirs. Finally having a Starbucks on site was great to grab an early morning Coffee whilst strolling on the beach.

Beautiful Resort, Great Access
This is our first time staying in Ka'anapali and it was - as expected - a little more bustling than the south end of the island. I wanted to book a place where my family (mom, dad, & 2 older teens) could come and go as we please with not a lot of oversight, driving, scheduling and this resort did that. Highlights: 1) if you can get an ocean view room - do - the view was great (we were only on the 4th floor and still had a great view) - even when we needed to be in the room we felt like we were in Maui!) 2) Beach was nice and water out front was great for swimming - we should have snorkeled more right there but we didn't figure that out till later!!) 3) beds were super comfortable 4) rooms very clean, cleaning crew VERY SWEET!!! 5) mall next door was great for snacks and smoothies and walking around 6) decent selection of restaurants within walking distance 6) on site parrots were awesome - we had lot's of great conversations with them ! 7) Koi pond and feeding the fish was fun 8) grounds were beautiful 9) my 15 year old thought they made the best NA pina -coladas she had in Maui =) 10) self parking was easy 11) never had a problem finding space by a pool Less than Highlights: 1) bathroom was CRAMPED, w/4 adult sized people the room was small and hard to manage privacy 2) expensive (of course, we knew, but if you're wondering, yes - everything on the resort was expensive) 3) we had a great experience with the staff until we didn't. we were there during a lock-system-change. We totally understand that these things never go as planned - but we were trying to leave the resort (not get in - LEAVE!) and the gate wouldn't open - it was 5:30 in the morning and we were going to miss our boat. The staff put us through a million questions and issued a card that also didn't work - when they just needed to open the gate and let us catch our boat. (they later just left the gate open) In the grand scheme - this was a unique situation and small (because we made the boat) but worth noting.

Phenomenal resort and even better view from our room
Gorgouse views from balconies. I spent a lot of money for a great view, but did not spend much time in the room at all. I would downgrade from the executive suite I got , to a good corner single king room with a full view. Even though that my sweet had a balcony and a Jacuzzi and table. It was very nice, but we didn’t spend much time there. Overall, the resort is gorgeous, and the staff is phenomenal. All needs are taken care of. I would return in a heartbeat again We had the luau food and also some bar food and one meal at the restaurant and it was very good. But we spent a lot of time traveling outside to eat. The concierge were phenomenal. I asked for certain trips they gave me great suggestions and the excursions were very worthwhile, such as swimming with turtles and renting a Harley for a few days.

Rude front desk agent but overall our kids enjoyed the pool & arcade
Overall our family had a great stay at the Westin however checking in we had a very rude front desk agent that accused us of trying to scam when we showed her the text we got from the hotel to go front desk letting us know that our room was now ready. The agent was soo unhelpful & grouchy to us. She told us our room was already ready, to just use the key card that the earlier agent gave us. At this point we didn’t even know our room number yet because our room wasn’t ready when we tried to check in earlier. She expected us to already know it & where to go. When we asked for her name, she showed us the side of shoulder, but couldn’t see her name tag. She was older 60s Filipino/asian woman. Her desk was on the far left side, closest to the concierge desks on 7/9/25. She was soo rude she didn’t even try to read the text twe got from the hotel, she basically just told us to go the room, and when we did… the key cards DIDN’T even work, we had to go back to the front desk AGAIN (now 3rd time) & another agent gave us new keys to our room that now worked, he was a lot nicer and helpful. Thank goodness our kids all had a great time but she left such a bad taste in our mouth from when we just got there. We’re repeat Westin Kaanapali guests, this was the first time we’ve experienced such bad service.
