    Amazing vacation!

Our family just got back from an amazing trip to Costa Rica! I wish we had more time and we will definitely be back. The Westin was absolutely lovely with spacious accommodations and beautiful grounds. Truly one of the prettiest places I've ever stayed. It was a great home base and we went on several excursions during our time there. A highlight was a hike to the La Leona waterfall. We booked this through Erik G who is right by the beach in a blue shirt. He was easy to communicate with via WhatsApp. This trip absolutely exceeded my expectations and over delivered in terms of what we experienced. It was the perfect combination of adventure, excitement and experiencing this beautiful country. I am not done with Costa Rica and cannot wait to return! The Westin was so relaxing and had everything we needed.

Beautiful bungalows, exciting excursions, peaceful resort

My wife and I stayed at the Westin Reserva Conchal and had an amazing time! The staff is friendly and helpful and the amenities are top notch. Our all-inclusive bungalow was just the right size and we slept great in the king-size bed. For us, the mattress was perfect, not too soft and not too hard either. The pools are clean and spacious with lots of activities to join in if you want (pool basketball, water polo, pool volleyball). And there’s plenty of shade trees and umbrellas too. The direct sunlight will fry you quickly if you stay in it for a long time. As you walk down to the beach you’ll encounter a few local vendors and massage therapists. There are plenty of excursion options but our favorite was the La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike! Scenic and not too difficult. 10/10 would do that again! Seek out local legend Erik Garcia on the way to the beach. He’ll be there wearing a blue Google TripAdvisor shirt and he’s the authority on the best excursions around. I almost forgot to mention the wildlife! You’ll get to see howler monkeys, coatis, iguanas, macaws and much more. It is a wonderful place and we had a very peaceful vacation stay.

Many great features, especially the pool and beach!

Playa Conchal offers a beautiful setting with an expansive pool designed to offer different sections, making it easy to find a comfortable place to sit with the level of activity and noise to suit your preferences. There are plenty of lounge chairs, which is a big plus. The rooms are lovely and well-appointed, though the two steps up to the bedroom area may not suit everyone. Food was average overall, and the resort felt short on towel drop spots and water refill stations for its size. While enjoyable, it likely doesn’t fully meet a true five-star standard. Standout experiences included yoga and aqua classes with Eduardo, and yoga sessions with Samuel, both of whom were excellent. Can't forget to mention the giant iguana and howler monkey closeups!

Kudos to the Westin and Erik Garcia!!

We just returned from our weeklong family vacation at the Westin Reserva Conchal and we - all 13 of us ranging in age from 77 to 7 - had a fabulous time. First of all, Costa Rica itself is a masterpiece of beauty and its citizens are so welcoming - wherever we went, they were friendly and happy to have us as tourists to show off their beautiful country. There is just so much more to admire and to do here than in the Caribbean. Secondly, we loved the Westin! We have taken Christmas vacations together for several years and the Westin was our favorite/best hotel experience. It offers so much: most importantly, a uniformly warm, hardworking, and wanting-to-help staff; a magnificent long beach that is serene, natural, and missing those ubiquitous rows of chaises that you often find at resorts; a huge swimming pool that even over Christmas vacation was never crowded and where we thankfully never felt that unpleasant pressure to reserve chaises; and, sooooo many activities and stuff for the kids to use and do, including boogie boards, kayaks, beach stuff, balls - and of course if the children are happy, we are happy. One of the joys of Costa Rica is all the adventures you can take. The hotel arranged a wonderful sunset cruise with snorkeling and amazing food - we even saw whales - the crew could not have been nicer. In addition to the hotel, we used Erik Garcia, an independent activities business guy who was an unexpected and amazing asset to our trip. My daughter, after reading some excellent reviews, suggested I contact him and initially I was reluctant to go outside conventional hotel channels; eventually, I listened to her and we are all so glad I did. He arranged our vans to and from the hotel and several activities, including an outstanding canyon/waterfall adventure hike (my favorite) on the Rio Blanco, tubing with some rapids (family favorite) and ziplining, fishing (they caught a lot, including a barracuda) and a rainforest/waterfall trip. Erik was so reliable, always available by text or phone, and his planning and services were punctual and outstanding - he has incredible follow-though - everything he says he will do, he does. I highly recommend, if you go to the Westin, contact him to plan some activities before you go on What's Ap (506 - 8365 -9046) or when you arrive, you can find him everyday - all day - standing at the top of the path to the beach. To say Erik is "user friendly" is an understatement - he made everything so easy - and that is the one area where the hotel falls a bit short. There are bureaucratic snafus - lack of communication between departments and staff - and inefficiencies that can be frustrating. Our check-in to the hotel is my main complaint; it was not what we had planned and very long. Despite numerous emails and phone calls over six months, when we got there, it was as if, I had never made those emails or calls: our six rooms were spread out in different buildings so parents and young kids were not together and the rooms had the wrong number of beds. Also, despite all my emails and phone calls, no one had ever told me there were adjoining rooms or explained various upgrade options that I would have taken if I had known. However, this is a hotel that graciously admits problems and fixes them. Happily for us, the next day Jocelinne, the hotel manager who is unfailingly lovely and helpful, corrected our issues and then offered to make us dinner reservations which was also much appreciated. Aside from the checkin, if I were running the hotel, there are a few areas where I think improvements could be made: longer hours for food and drink around the pool; more lunch options and service for food and drinks around the pool (one all inclusive we stayed at had food trucks which was very cool); more efficiencies in the restaurant dining - making reservations is way too difficult and the service is fast but it is chaotic and helter skelter (our favorite restaurant food and service wise by far was the non reservation Faisanella where the food, host and waiters were all great); and a more efficient system for seating at the breakfast buffet so there is no long line after 8am even when many tables are available. I saved my criticisms for the end bec that's where they belong - none of them affected my very fond feelings for the Westin and its wonderful staff. Our experience here was overwhelmingly positive - all my children and grandchildren loved it. What more could I ask for?
