Amazing Family Trip
We spent the week of Thanksgiving at the Westin and we had such a wonderful time. We saw parrots, coatis, monkeys and tons of iguanas. The food was above average for an all inclusive. Spirula was our favorite restaurant we also enjoyed Coastal Burger Co next to imperial bar. We enjoyed cocktail and sangria making classes and our boys enjoyed the treasure hunt and nature scavenger hunt in the kids club. The pool is huge and never felt like the hotel was at full capacity. The family section has a separate bar with shaved ice for kids or adults if you like. Make sure to find Erik Garcia (blue google shirt) he set us up with 4 tours and we had so much fun on all of them. We will be back to Costa Rica again! Pura Vida!

Wonderful family vacation
We just returned from a wonderful three-generation (ages 16 to 79) trip to the Westin Reserva Conchal. The property blends the luxury and convenience of an all-inclusive resort with the natural beauty of Costa Rica. We loved being able to walk around the resort watching howler monkeys swinging in the trees and iguanas lounging in the sun. We stayed in family suites. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds and a nice sitting area. The main advantage of the family suites was proximity to the main pool and beach as well as access to a reserved seating area at both the pool and in the main buffet restaurant. The food at the ala carte restaurants was really fantastic — better than at other all-inclusive resorts at which we have stayed. The buffet was a bit of a step down but still good and had a range of different options at each meal as well as fresh fruit. It was also possible to get a selection of food to eat poolside including pizza, quesadillas, and ceviche. The hotel offered a lot of options for excursions but we had a great experience using Erik G who booked several excursions and airport transfers for us months before our trip. You can easily find him on Google or look for the nice man with a blue Google shirt standing every day at the entrance to the beach. He helped us pick the excursions that were right for our family (a boat trip in the Palo Verde National Park for all three generations and a zip line tour for the younger two). Our guide/driver for Palo Verde was really great and taught us a lot about the country and the wildlife we saw. We were interested in a zip line tour that we had seen advertised; Erik was happy to help but suggested a different option which turned out to be the best zip line experience we have had. While a zip line tour is always going to be a tourist attraction, Hacienda El Roble also gave us the experience of an authentic family ranch where we were driven up into the hills in a beautiful, secluded landscape and then zipped over ravines seeing the wonderful Costa Rican flora, howler monkeys, and on the final zip the active ranch with all of the animals. Communication with Erik on What’s App was SO easy and it made excursion planning and airport transfers a breeze. Without even needing to get in a car there was a lot to do at the resort. My father enjoyed the golf course and we all enjoyed the beach and the pool. My wife and I love to hike and enjoyed hiking on the trails in the Reserva Conchal. The trails are well marked and easy to follow. There is also a hiking trail at the far end of the beach that goes up to a high ridge that projects out into the ocean (Cerró Encanto) giving amazing views. We never would have even known there was a trail there if not for the All Trails app and we didn’t see a single other person either time we did that hike. Finally, everyone at the resort was so friendly and welcoming. There are so many people I’d like to thank but I’ll give special mention to Maria who worked in the family area at the main pool and was constantly circulating taking drink and food orders with a warm smile and enthusiastic service. We would definitely come back!

Westin experience
While I was at the Westin, I saw lots of pros and cons. So here is the list below. Pros: -great drinks especially for being all inclusive -golf course was in great shape -there were lots of cool animals, including howler monkeys, and iguanas throughout the property -gym was very nice and clean Now the fun part…cons -food was… just blah -property seems to be getting old and is very crowded -if you are not put in a tower, your children will be given very creaky beds -lots of bugs -entertainment was… hit and miss -CROWDED!!!!!!!!

Love Cost Rica
Just spent 5 days at the Westin AI. The rooms were comfortable and spacious for our family of 4 with 2 teens sharing a surprisingly comfortable sleeper sofa. The resort is very spread out but filled with lush landscaping and lots of random animals. We love hearing the monkeys talk to each other. The food was pretty good but almost impossible to get a reservation (starts at 6am). We are an adventurous family so we searched posts for suggested vendors. We found Eric G mentioned often and I got in touch with him for a jet ski adventure. He was so accommodating and great at communicating. He wears a blue shirt with Google on it right when you walk out of the resort. We had so much fun touring the coasts on jet skis. They even took pictures for us. Costa Rica has always been one of our favorite places to visit. We traveled here with 3 families aging form 13-76. Everyone loved the resort and the AI hotel is perfect for 4 hungry teenagers. We can’t wait to come back and visit again.

Nice resort, a Good time, not as consistent as I'd have liked.
We had pretty high expectations for this resort. With mixed experiences, I have to admit, the resort is simply inconsistent. I will share the good and bad, but management did step in and fixed most of our issues and in the end, we had an enjoyable experience overall. The resort - the resort is vast. Still didn't master getting around by the last day. Golf carts are your primary mode of transport unless you enjoy the walk. Beautiful grounds, lush feel. You cannot see the ocean from any room which is a bummer. The pool needed better attention on the club side. Lots of things floating. Some of that may be just being surrounded by nature. The club accommodations are very worth it. You get the upgrade chairs, a private pool, no children, an upscale booze offering, and a clubhouse. Javier was a standout employee and took care of us when we had any issues such as finding a place to park at the pool. The golf looked amazing. You have to call zero to get a cart, to and from, all restaurants have a phone. Seemed archaic to me when you can easily create an app to make that simple. Also, Marriott Bonvoy top level guests cab get access to the club side, my recommendation is to pay for the less expensive side and get the upgrade if you're on a budget and don't care for concierge service. It makes getting a chair tougher at the pool since people come to that side when it's already at capacity with paying guests. I heard they sell passes to local travelers as well, but cannot confirm which may cause even more traffic. Restaurants - Bamboo and the Tapas (Main lobby) are undoubtedly the best although we didn't have the seafood so I cannot say that for all. Bamboo requires a reservation as does the seafood and one other. Get on the app early the day of particularly for Bamboo if you're timing it with a show. The overall food experience for me was just average. I had trouble with the buffet. Food is not being heated, everything was luke warm at best, things were constantly running out, I had to practically beg for my food. Marvin, one of the managers saw me waving my arms as an expression to get his attention to help us, he completely ignored me so on my way out I let him know he would be debut' in my review. Room service was more consistent than the buffet, so, order in for breakfast. I did have the pizza and I am a snob, it was okay. Service in the restaurants was solid, even where they were limited on staff. People were generally friendly and speak good english. Concierge - Jeffrey and Ariel were excellent. They were friendly, helpful, and worked hard to please. They gave us alot of info on the resort but also about the country. Only gripe, why are they not using Whatsapp? Every resort uses it for more efficient service. Thanks to these gentlemen for making our experience better! Room - our room was the highest level to my knowledge. It was 2 rooms, plus big bathroom. Nicely furnished with teakwood. Bed was super comfortable. Balcony had a soaker and a swing. Shower pressure was good. Amenities were solid. Phone cord needs to be longer nearly dropped the phone every morning. Room service was great, same with turndown. There is a water hammer issue in the walls and if we didn't have a white noise machine it would have driven us crazy. I don't know if it's everywhere but room 2304 sure did have it. We were close to the pickleball court and they were playing pretty early so if you want peace and quiet, try a room not to the back of Tower 2. They give you nice removable bracelets to use for room entry. Entertainment - simply put, altogether bad. One enjoyable band played and we loved her act. The rest was just not fit for anyone. The places where they have entertainment are in restaurants... there is barely any seating. Don't go looking for high quality entertainment. Costa Rica overall - I had a great time, weather was mid 80's daily even in rainy season and we only had about 2 hours rain in an entire week. People are nice, but many move slowly. I experienced this in Jamaica primarily, so if you've been, you know what I mean. We went on a UTV excursion 503 was awesome! Well worth the money for the experience. We saw howler monkeys at the resort and on the tour. Balmy air not to humid in November although we thought it would be. The beach is owned by the country and the local vendors are enormously pushy. Makes getting to and from painful. This is not a beach vacation. I hear most resorts have the same issue. Water was pretty rough with a heavy undertow so we were not messing with it anyhow. It is beautiful at the beach though. Water is on the darker side. I cannot say whether we'll return, given its 5-6 hour haul, another 1.10 hours drive from the airport, makes for a long 2 travel days of the seven. Again, we had a good time, management helped that for sure as did the shout out's I've given.
