    Took the Chance...And Glad We Did

    First, I was a little apprehensive of booking an ocean front suite given some of the reviews on noise from the Riu. But since I was only going for 4 nights figured we would give it a try. Also worth noting is I have long felt the island needed something better than the Ritz, which I have stayed at several times. While the Ritz has a very large beach area, and the hotel is nice, it is more of a 4.5*, not 5*. I thought we would be staying in the narrow part of the property, right at the beach, based upon website photos. However I was told those are king bed suites only and we had 2 queens. Our room happened to be all the way to the left side of the property, just next to the RIU. So first the bad news. The Riu is undergoing major reconstruction and the noise can from music can be heard. However, it never rose to the level which I found unacceptable or at night trying to sleep. There wasn't a time the noise impacted our enjoyment. Perhaps for someone else who wanted absolute peace and quiet, but this entire area of Aruba, really isn't geared for that. Second, the hotel is new and one could tell there are still some things getting ironed out. Nothing overly concerning from my perspective. Third, the beach is small and seating beach space is limited. For the pool, which is very nice, no problem. But there are these people who absolutely have to have front row beach, don't want to tip and try and put their stuff down at 6AM, before it even opens. Then these same people go back to bed or breakfast or whatever and don't come back until 10. A policy probably should be made, but for me the easier route is just to be kind and take care of the beach attendants every day. They were very attentive. Given all that, I still give it 5*. Why? The lobby area, including bar and shops is beautiful. Music every night. Champagne celebration every night. The suite was spacious, modern in feel, with a fantastic bath and large balcony. The restaurant on the 12th floor was outstanding with its view, range of food, presentation and taste. Most importantly, EVERY employee went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Every single one. I would call out a couple, Justin, and Ryan in the beach area, who were instrumental in getting chairs and umbrellas and Rosanna for the food and drink and taking care of my wife for her birthday. We will be back.

    First visit

    I was fortunate to get a suite upgrade, perk of being an ambassador and living in Marriott properties 200 nights a yr. The room was gorgeous with a huge balcony and great setup. The beach area is smaller than the ritz and Marriott but the people that work there are great! Rosanna, Joe and the manager Govanna (may have spelled wrong) are wonderful and accommodating. They even handled an entitled guest who complained about everything every day bc she thought she deserved more than the other paying guests. Opportunity to improve front desk. Everyone is nice but they aren’t equipped to problem solve, they are given standard answers that just make you a bit more annoyed. For example, I requested a late check out, 1 hour extra and was told no. After a 3rd attempt I was given the extra hour by the manager and timing worked perfect for housekeeping who weee finishing 2 other rooms. Check in I waited 3 hours for my room but was told it would be ready as soon as possible. They should be able to have constant communication with housekeeping and give guests a time frame. I couldn’t get seat at beach or pool at that point bc they were all gone and Already had lunch. Akira black, the bartenders on Friday night were really nice, especially the young lady. Only downside, they did a set menu and you couldn’t order any appetizers. Hotel restaurants love doing this and it takes away revenue and guests. Did what you do 365 days a yr and incorporate a special. I speak from 30 yrs experience. Overall. I had a great time. Just some little things to work out to get on the level of a St. Regis

    No Power, No Water, No Thanks

    The hotel is aesthetically stunning. The beach is beautiful, the rooms are well-designed, and the staff is generally kind. But for a hotel that ranks itself as the top of the top in service, the experience just didn’t deliver. There’s a major issue with inconsistent communication, lack of attention to detail, and honestly, some of the strangest hotel experiences I’ve ever had. What’s marketed as seamless, luxury service often felt disorganized, confusing, and at times—completely bizarre. ⸻ Day 1 – Off to a Rocky Start Check-in was warm and welcoming. We were greeted with bottles of water (frozen solid, lol), and everything seemed promising. But then came the baggage situation. We were handed claim tickets… but our luggage never went anywhere. A bellhop eventually offered to help but insisted we stay with him while he delivered it. After chatting with a friend and picking up other luggage, we gave up and carried our own bags. We just didn't feel like wasting more time at check in. The room was gorgeous—clean, with a beautiful patio and lovely amenities. We tried to enjoy the beach before dinner, but all the chairs were taken. Apparently, if you’re not out there by 7:30 AM, you’re out of luck. I asked for a smoothie and was handed a menu with none listed. I assumed that meant no, but turns out—yes, they had smoothies. Its that lack of communication and information. That evening, we had dinner at the hotel’s sushi restaurant. It was absolutely delicious. We had reserved an outdoor table, but were told it wasn’t available. Then, we watched several walk-ins get seated outside. Frustrating, but the view was still nice. We ended up having a beautiful view from our indoor seats. Later, we hit the casino. I played slots while my husband waited for a blackjack seat. Even though staff saw him waiting, someone else jumped in. Thankfully, the guy who sat realized and gave him the seat. I'm glad it rolled out that way because obviously the managers were not managing any situation. Also, there’s no snack shop—just a coffee bar that closes at 8 PM. Day 2 – DIY Beach Chairs & Spa Letdowns Breakfast at the coffee shop: I had a sandwich (okay), my husband had a muffin. We were “late” to the beach again—so no chairs. Eventually, we got two chairs in the back row. But with no palapas (they don't have them) and strong wind, the umbrellas couldn’t go up. For a luxury resort, I expected the comfy lounge chairs like the Hyatt and Ritz—these were basic. The pools were cold, and the adult pool had kids splashing around with no enforcement. Personally didn't care but just an example of poor management. Later, we visited the spa. My husband wanted to book a massage, and I asked to use the restroom. It was messy, towels everywhere—not what I expected from a 5-star spa. Back at the casino, there was a raffle. The front desk made a big deal about it at check in. My husband was entering us while I went to cash his chips. They asked me for my ID, I did not have it on me but my husband came over and he had his. They did not care to see my husbands ID but when they noticed he was with me they gave him a hard time. I have no clue why I looked so suspicious. idn’t have my ID, so I went to get him. I asked around at the beach and it was confirmed that I was the only one that they had requested ID from. It felt discriminatory. We had dinner at Madame Janette’s—fantastic. Day 3 – Power Outage & Methanol Rumors We woke up early again to get beach chairs—only two left at 7:30 AM. Half the beach was closed off for an event that didn’t start setup until 5 PM. No explanation. I am unsure why they had to close half their already small beach for the whole day. I walked to the Ritz. Their chairs had lush, padded cushions—I kept thinking about the woman at check-in telling us they were “a much higher level than the Ritz.” Nope, I would disagree! I stopped at Eduardo’s for a smoothie and poke bowl. Good thing I did, because soon after—the power went out on the island. St. Regis had no food, no coffee shop, and no communication. They ran out of chips, but had chips for some but not others. My husband’s massage was canceled with no notice or apology. They just said “oh, yeah, it’s canceled” like it was normal. It was incredibly frustrating. The front desk said that they were calling people to tell them but that is clearly not true. Later, a waitress came running down the beach yelling, “We have chips and water!” and brought us a bucket of bottled water. It felt like a parody. Power came back around 5. In the elevator, I met our neighbor, Sophie. She said her room hadn’t been cleaned, and after she complained, housekeeping left a handwritten note saying: 📝 “If you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.” At this point, I truly believe this hotel is just weird. ⸻ Day 4 – Enough is Enough My husband got beach chairs in the second row at 7:30 AM. They handed him towels and said they couldn’t help yet because they needed to “figure out the umbrellas.” So, he set up the chairs himself. Again—not what I expect from a $1,000+ a night hotel. We had the breakfast buffet—delicious, but clearly short-staffed. One waitress was working the whole floor. She was lovely, but overwhelmed. Returned to our room—hadn’t been cleaned. The room phone didn’t work. Eventually, a manager said it was because our safe was open? I didn’t even know we had one. Honestly felt like an excuse to skip cleaning. The manager offered to cover our room charges for our stay and gave us a ride to dinner (a service they offer, but don’t tell guests). Dinner at Opus was amazing. They messed up our order but were so nice, we didn’t even care. The food was to good to care. Later, I saw the casino manager (Gianni?). She had told us to let her know if we came back. We did—and she acted like we were annoying her. Rude and dismissive. I was done. To top it off, we got back to the room and—yes, it was finally cleaned—but they threw out my husband’s medication. The shower was still flooding. At this point, I was done complaining We were leaving, I didn’t care. ⸻ Day 5 – Checkout Chaos We went to check out and saw breakfast charges and a facility fee for the checkout day—even though the manager had told us he’d cover our charges. Apparently, he meant “until that moment,” which no one explained, we assumed it was for the stay since ge saud for the stay. After everything that went wrong, this last bit of confusion was laughable! Thank goodness my husband and I can enjoy our time anywhere. Next time I guess it is not necessary to splurge on the St Regis, as they don’t deliver what they say they will and it does not make for a comfortable vacation. I spent to much time at the front desk with no follow up! Oh—and how could I forget the blackout chaos? The hotel’s backup generator was out for the entire day. That meant no food, no lights, no elevators, and—wait for it—no running water anywhere on the property. Guests were left in dark bathrooms, climbing stairs, and hoping the wind would blow some answers in. we were informed that if the generator came back, it would NOT power guest rooms nor provide running water. And yet—somehow, miraculously—the one thing that did have power was the private beach party setup, which wasn’t even starting until later that night. Yep, while we couldn’t flush a toilet or get a glass of water, the empty party tent was beautifully lit.     This is the worst excuse for a st Regis property I have ver experienced. First the good The hotel is very nice and clean. The rooms are very nice the bed is comfortable. This is where the positives end The most disturbing part is during our stay there was an Island wide blackout, ok not the hotels fault Clearly. However we soon learned yes they have a generator, but suprise it only gives the lobby lights and 2/4 elevators worked . The guest rooms Did not have power or running water! The generator stopped working in an half hour and the entire hotel was dark and had no water for hours. It delay as if we were on poop Cruise no Answers no apology chaos also half yr beach wa blows all Day for a private party that began at 8 pm The lights for the party worked because “ That’s a separate generator” There is no excuse for this and no one had any answers. Other issues The beach is small and people are on top Of each other. The one day I woke up Early to get seats (730) I Was told To set up My own towels as they were busy opening umbrellas. Again not the biggest issue, but not st Regis standards by any means Lots of other little issues but I would NEVER stay here again the Ritz is far superior. Stay away

    Fun but not a 5 star experience

    Review The hotel is nice and modern, the food and drinks were very good, but the experience did not meet our expectations given the 5 stars. The ocean front room we reserved through American Express Travel was not available so we got a room with the view of the trash area and parking lot. The beach is very small and there are not enough chairs. My husband had to get up at 6:45am to get beach chairs. If you get chairs you are about a foot away from other guests so there is no privacy. Butler service and housekeeping were not consistent. We ordered coffee to the room and it was late, or no show a few times. Turn down service was not done everyday. Beach chairs should have flags to signal you would like to order something. Was difficult to get attention of wait staff. Some of the staff were awesome such as Erick at the pool, Sherine at the restaurant and Saskia at beach. We will not be back.
