We loved our visit to the sands in mid March! When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and rum punch. We had originally booked a courtyard view room and quickly realized that was not the right decision. The courtyard rooms are very small with only 2 windows that overlook a hallway. They are small and cramped and do not feel like you are on a tropical vacation. I was very disappointed so we had the front desk change us to a garden view which was MUCH better. We had a little patio which we sat on every night. Well worth the up charge! Overall the sands was lovely! The beach was beautiful! We made friends with the beach attendant and tipped him to save us front ocean beach chairs for every morning of our stay. The garden and landscape around the resort was absolutely beautiful. You are within walking distance to all the neighboring resorts and their restaurants as well as the little downtown area which has a ton of great restaurants and cafes. The location was PERFECT! We used the hotel provided bikes and would bike into town in the morning for coffee/snacks. Hemingway’s was also delicious and so nice to have as an option right on the property! Overall we loved our stay at the sands! As a couple in our late 20s looking for a nice vacation without completely breaking the bank this really was perfect.
Great place to stay
Very good hotel with available parking around the buildings. The hotel is located right on the Grace Bay which is the number 1 beach in the world. There are two beautiful pools but only one is heated. The jacuzzi is nice but the water temperature is kept at 102 degrees which is way too hot and feels almost uncomfortable.
Unacceptable customer service
Have a spring break trip scheduled for the first week of April. Unfortunately, the airline canceled our flight due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Furthermore, even if we could get there, our employers are mandating a 14 day quarantine upon return to the US. This is no longer a workable trip due to a pandemic. The total cost for our room is over $5000, which we paid in advance. Called the hotel to request a refund due to these extraordinary circumstances. The hotel offered me 50% of my money back, which is totally unacceptable. Karma will not be kind to greedy businesses like this. I wish them nothing but the worst after things normalize, and will be sure to tell anyone who will listen (i.e. their potential future customers) about my experience.
Went on a whim with another couple and after booking was not pleased with some reviews and was nervous. Booked through Delta Vacations and stayed in room 2202. Was sold as a garden view, but quite honestly we could see the ocean clearly. Room was quiet, and cleaned thoroughly each and every afternoon. I cannot say anything negative about this room or property. Not brand new, but clean and well kept up. Grounds were immaculate and all pools were open and there were always loungers available
Much better than expected!
I stayed at the Sands with my brother, his wife and their son. We had a 2 bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a large screened-in balcony. The screening does hamper the view but I understand that bug season (late summer) can get nasty. However, not a single bug in February. The landscaping was absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The beach was amazing and towels were provided for he beach or one of three pools. Staff were friendly and helpful and honest. We attempted to tip one of the staff that helped unload our luggage from the van and he refused, explaining that he may not be the staff member to take it up to our room. We tipped him extra. The Sands only has one restaurant, Hemmingways. The food was expensive but absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic. There are several restaurants you can walk to on the beach (10 - 30 minute walks). My only two issues was the screening on the balconies. It would be great to have something you could remove. And, be careful about what they claim is an ocean view. There are only a handful of rooms that have what I consider an ocean view. Our room was an ocean view and we could barely see the ocean. I will be back to the Sands. I'll post some photos soon.
