Great Last-Minute Stay at The FIVES Oceanfront, Would Totally Go Back

This was our first time staying at a FIVES resort, and it ended up being a great experience! We were a group of five and booked two rooms last minute at a really good price. It was pouring rain when we arrived, but the staff was right there helping us with our bags, which was super appreciated. Sahari was excellent with assisting us with transportation to and from the airport before we arrived. We had arranged airport transfers ahead of time, and the price was surprisingly good. When we got to the hotel, they welcomed us with a drink and had us sit down while they handled check-in from the couch, no standing at the counter, which was a nice touch. We went with the all-inclusive package that came with a set menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was excellent, way better than I expected. I usually go for places with buffets, but the set menu was a nice change. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, just know the dessert options were a bit limited. The staff was awesome, especially Yoe, she made us feel welcome every single day. The beach was lovely, and props to the team working hard to manage the seaweed. We also really enjoyed the rooftop pool, it was such a chill spot, and the bartenders, both by the beach and on the rooftop, were great, especially the one at the outside bar—I wish I remembered his name! We took a short $5 USD taxi ride to Puerto Morelos, which is a small town with plenty of restaurants and bars. We hung out at one of the restaurants where a live band was playing. The town seemed pretty quiet the night we were there. A couple of small things could be improved: both rooms could’ve used better airflow, no bathroom fans and the AC in mine was pretty loud. One of our rooms had a bit of water damage in the bathroom ceiling and some unfinished patchwork on the wall. Also, the elevator is tiny and kind of stuffy. That said, I’d absolutely recommend this place, especially if you’re looking to relax at a smaller resort. If you’re looking for a party scene, I’ve heard FIVES Beach has more of that vibe. A Relaxing Stay - Great Location and Friendly Staff

Check-in: 3/5 stars We arrived around 1:00pm and asked about an early check-in. The staff took all our information, gave us wristbands, and collected a deposit on our credit card, so we assumed our room would be ready. But they told us it wasn't ready yet. They said we could use the facilities while we waited, but we decided to take a walk into town and spent some time at a nearby beach bar. When we returned at 2:30pm, the room was still not ready. It wasn’t until exactly 3:00pm that we were finally allowed to go to our room. Room: 4.5/5 stars We stayed in Room 207, which overlooked the street. It was spacious, with a comfortable king-sized bed, a sofa, a table and chairs, a kitchenette, and a balcony. The TV had many English-language channels, and the room was quiet - we slept soundly through the night. The mini-fridge was stocked with soda, water, and beer. Coffee pods were provided, though the coffee maker only brewed about a shot’s worth at a time. The bathroom was large, with double sinks and a rain shower head that had plenty of hot water. My only complaint is that although there was a kitchenette, there were no utensils. Not a huge issue, but we brought leftovers back one night and had to eat them with our fingers. Pool Area: 4/5 stars There are two pools—one on the rooftop and one by the beach. We didn’t use either, but both looked very nice. Food: 4/5 stars We only had drinks at the rooftop bar. Prices were a bit high for Mexico, but the atmosphere made it worthwhile. Location: 4/5 stars The hotel is beautiful and well-located, just a 15-minute walk to the center of town. Puerto Morelos has many great restaurants within walking distance. Staff: 5/5 stars Everyone who worked at the hotel was friendly, hardworking, and always had a smile. We would definitely stay here again.

Do your research before going so you can manage your expectations..

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing time here. We stayed 4 nights. Our room was clean and had no issues with AC. Housekeeping tended to the room everyday. There was a bit of confusion on some of the restaurants times. Front desk told us a place was open for breakfast till 11am but we got there once and the staff would say they closed at 10am. Not the biggest deal. After the first day, we were much familiar with the times and never ran into a problem again. We received our food typically within 30 minutes and most of the time was out of the restaurant within an hour. Granted it was just 2 of us verses a large table. However, I didn't see many tables that were waiting long for their food. This is a very small resort which is exactly what we looked for. Beach beds we're always available. The downstairs pool usually was filled but the rooftop pool usually has plenty of beds. This isn't busy season so I'm sure this is a different experience than when it's busy or they have a wedding at the resort. Sargassum is very heavy this year which is something we knew before coming. The water isn't as blue as some pictures show but this just depends on the time you come. Some days the smell was stronger. Other days wasn't as bad. We walked up and down the beach with no problem. The resort cleans it off there beaches but down the beach other places do not. There is a barrier in the water to prevent it however some of it does get through and lands on the beaches. We easily walked off the resort into the center which is one of the reasons we chose this place. We had wonderful food on and off the resort. We would definitely come back! Fidel makes amazing drinks. He has a specialty drink(he didn't have a name for it) and it was very very good! We also enjoyed drinks from Abraham, Rosa, and Karen. Eli and Julio were also wonderful at the front desk! All the staff we interacted with were very friendly!

    Bad smell and terrible service

The smell is mountains of seaweed washed up on the beach meaning you can’t sit on the beach or swim in the allegedly blue waters without wading though thick mounds of strong smelling seaweed. The food service is terrible, might be the worst of any resort I have ever visited. The worked may smile at times but they are lazy, slow and unconcerned about making you happy. They won’t serve you even if there are 10 minutes before the restaurant closes down, charge you for food even if you paid for all-inclusive, take an insane amount of time to bring your drinks and food, etc. The burgers are far too charred and dry with a mountain of cheese “fondue” on top. Most people don’t revel to Mexico to eat burgers and fried chicken sandwiches. They had no tacos, quesadillas, etc in the menu, refused to make them yet had all the ingredients there to do so. The hostess at the poolside restaurant is full of attitude and not helpful at all. Several rooms had leaks or water issues including water on the floors and wet beds. Don’t waste your money or time here, go somewhere that actually wants your business.
