    Nothing special

We stayed as a family of 4 over Easter. Overall I would stay this is distinctively average. No wows. Often struggled to obtain a sunbed. Entertainment was lacking. The Mexican night resulted in people sitting on the floor to eat. We were locked out of our room on several occasions due to the card/bracelet not working due to battery failure. My advice would be to look elsewhere as we were really disappointed.

    First time in Mexico

We visited The Fives Resort from May 5th to the 15th. We couldn’t get our room until 3:30pm, so we virtually lost our first day to waiting. When we were able to get in, our door frame needed maintenance to fix it, the frame was broken. Someone came right away to repair it and within 24 hours our door frame was fixed. The room was nice but in the master bedroom the counter was cracked badly and had white caulk on it to try to fix it-definitely NOT a 5 star room. The rooms have stoves and a microwave But our stove did not work. There was no cutlery in the room either. We went to Flavours for breakfast and met our server, Omar. He is a very efficient, personable, respectful young man. We sat in Omar’s section for breakfast every morning we were able to. (One morning he had a partner named Israel, he was as good as Omar.). When we went to dinner at the Flavours restaurant, the only waiter that was as good as Omar, was Luis S. The hamburger’s that Jesus and Luis served were the best burgers we have ever had. These two are amazing cooks. The pools were fantastic!! They were cleaned every day and the grounds were extremely clean. These workers work extremely hard and you can tell. The beach was NOT like in the pictures. There is loads of seaweed and the water has barriers that collect seaweed. Wasn’t impressed by the beach at all. Our uncle ended up in the hospital in Mexico and Gigi was extremely helpful throughout the whole ordeal. The entertainment is incredible. The only thing we didn’t like is the entertainment is repeated weekly. On the week of May 12th, the Flavours Buffett was closed for supper for NO apparent reason and there was NO notice given to us, the visitors. New people coming to the resort were not notified of the closure either. This was a huge disappointment. Pool bars were NOT stocked properly and they closed at 4:40 when they were supposed to be opened until 5:00. With the bars not being stocked properly, you were dictated to, as to what you could have as a drink. The Marley coffee shop and the Donatello ice cream bar along with the ice cream bar by the Love Pizza, was NOT included in this all inclusive resort. Our first day at the resort, we were approached by representatives to attend a meeting for time shares. We said we were NOT interested but we were harassed at every turn. These representatives do NOT take NO for an answer. They are like vultures and this harassment takes away from the excitement of your vacation. They offer free Bali beds-we spent $14525 for our 10 day vacation, we paid for a Bali bed. By the way Bali beds are $175.00 per day. When we got home on May 15th, we had a charge of $33.99 put on our visa with NO emailed receipt or reason for charging us this. When we checked out, the lady told us there was NO additional charges that we needed to pay. She printed the receipt for the tourism tax that they charged , that we paid on checkout. All in all, I believe this resort to be a 3 star, not a 5 star as advertised. There are areas that need major improvement and hopefully for future visitors the issues are fixed. We will NOT be going back to this “All Inclusive” resort.

    Amazing Family Vacation

We just returned to cold Canada from our 8 day stay at The Fives Beach Resort and Residences. We travelled with our 2 teenage daughters. We all agreed that this was a great relaxing family vacation. The two bedroom Villa 2 was so spacious and my children loved having their own room, bathroom and big screen TV. Our bedroom and living area had a full kitchen (not stocked), dining table, sectional couch, french doors going into our king bedroom with large stand alone bathtub and separate shower. We were across from the jungle boardwalk so it felt like we were in the jungle with monkeys and coati's seen daily. The food was top notch! I have food intolerances (gluten) and when you signed in to each restaurant or buffet they always asked if we had any food allergies. When I stated gluten intolerance they put my worries to ease with either showing me around the buffet and pointing out all the gluten free options or assisting me with the menu. For those that stated the staff are not friendly and not enough I am not sure were are reviewing the same resort. This resort has staff everywhere you look and you can't pass one with getting a smile and a Hola. They are willing to go the extra mile for you. We brought Peso's and tipped when we could. I was surprised at how often I saw people not tipping. These hard working employees rely on tips for the majority of their income. It doesn't take much to show your appreciation for their hard work. We tipped at all restaurants, buffet and swim up bars, smoothy place and of course our housekeepers who were awesome. Thank you Juanita and Omar for keeping our place so clean! We enjoyed one tour-Tulum, Cenote and Snorkeling which was amazing. All other times we moved between one of the many pools and beach and took part in a few pool and beach volleyball tournaments. When we need another relaxing vacation we will be back!

    Great Resort

Pros: the FOOD! Unlike many other resorts we have been to, the restaurants are unreal in terms of quality. Many times over we ordered a third or fourth appetizer in the middle of the meal and they happily continued to deliver it. With an autoimmune condition that can be triggered by dairy they made sure to take care of me when ordering and all the wait staff were educated on everything on the menus. The burgers and hotdogs on the beach are unbeatable and the tacos/pizza spots are awesome as well. The Italian Arezzo is great- lots of fun truffle pasta options, the Sushi restaurant is easily the best Sushi in Mexico (try the Chef's platter), La Brasserie has an amazing sit down lunch and the Thai was also great. The Mexican and the buffets were least favorable. Breakfast is a rough go, no bacon or sausage or meats and very long omelette lines. Amazing, quick wait staff, but Flavours needs some favours. Different kinds of coffee hiding in plain site everywhere. There are lots of complaints about having to pay for coffee at the Marley, but they will make you cappuccinos, espressos, iced coffee and more at every eatery for free if you ask for it. There is also free ice cream in more limited flavours for kids at Donatella. Other pros include cleanliness - staff constantly cleaning, pool bathrooms extremely clean and well kept. The rooms were also well kept and consistently cleaned at the same time daily which is a miss at a lot of resorts. Lastly, we never passed a staff member that didn't say hi to us before we could first. There are a lot of people who reviewed on Trip advisor that staff looked unhappy. That was not our experience - every single person serving, walking, cleaning or otherwise was pleasant and smiling. Cons: rooms aren't consistent - smaller, non smart TVs in some and large flat screens in others. No big deal for some. Lots of empty Bali beds around the pools might want the resort to rethink if their pricing is competitive for them- we have been to resorts in the last year with much higher quality full serve (menu driven) Bali beds for near $100 dollars USD less per day. We never had trouble getting loungers and we migrated throughout the day to various pools and secured new loungers wherever we landed. One of two (out of 15+) resorts I would return to happily in the future.

Good Resort With Just a Few Things Holding it Back

Overall a very good resort with just a few things holding it back. We just returned from a one week stay at the Fives (May 11-18). We had a very nice time and did enjoy the resort. We've stayed at well over a dozen different all inclusive resorts, including the two resorts on the same beach as this one (Princess & Ocean Riviera Paradise). Staff Friendly and great service, especially by the wait staff in the restaurants. Bars There are plenty of bars to choose from, the pool bars can quickly get quite busy. And I'm not sure what it is, but towards the end of the day the plastic cups they reuse to make drinks seem to not be very well rinsed, there's a distinct soapy taste to them. Rooms Nice and spacious rooms, unfortunately the A/C doesn't quite cool the room down enough. We had the temperature set to 21C, but the temperature never got down below 23C. Others we talked too had the same issue, so it wasn't isolated to just our room. Buffet The buffet is rather underwhelming, it was closed more often than it was open. The one time we did have breakfast there, we found the selection to be mediocre at best. A-La-Carte Restaurants The reservation process, or lack there of is a huge let down. Not being able to make a reservation means you either have to show up to eat as soon as they open (5:30pm), later in the evening (after 8:30pm) or be fine with waiting for well over an hour to get a table. This resort desperately needs some sort of a reservation system. We also often found many of the restaurants closed, even when they were supposed to be open i.e. the Mexican restaurant is meant to be open for breakfast but wasn't, sea olive was closed the entire time we were there. That being said the actual food is superb, among the best we've ever had at any all-inclusive, if not the best. Grounds Grounds are well kept and clean. The maintenance staff is always out and making an effort to keep things looking good.
