  Fantastic stay to celebrate our graduating high school senior!

  We loved our stay at The Fives!! From the hotel staff to the amenities and entertainment, everything was 5 stars from start to finish.

  Lovely setting, ascetically pleasing POOR standard of Restaurants

  As a family of 3 we visited the hotel on 1st August 25 for 14 nights. The hotel has a lovely setting and is ascetically pleasing with the animals roaming free. Check in was quick and smooth, although I think we should have had highlighted the WhatsApp you can use to message guest relations on. We had a Deluxe Double room which was large and spacious, however nowhere to hang a towel or bathrobe. We faced out to a road/jungle are which was OK, there were coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is large and predominantly flat with a small gradient. The pool outside of Block 8 had very little space and only a small number of loungers so we stayed by the main infinity pool next to the beach. No problem getting loungers but we are earlier risers and I was usually there from 7.30am. Plenty of beach towels available throughout the day. The towel guy did take towels away from loungers when you weren't sitting there, sometimes after 20 minutes and other times after 90 minutes some days he didn't bother at all. The majority of the staff were helpful and smiley Natalia Dzib our maid, Rocio, server at the infinity pool was lovely, Alexandro who supervised the Bali Beds, Eduardo, Fernando who were both waiters in our favourite restaurants, all the staff and servers in the Koh Thai and the Gin Bar. We hired a Bali bed for a day as it was my husband's birthday which was nice, although they didnt start serving us until 11am. The hotel had outlined prior to our stay they would decorate our room my husbands birthday - they didn't which was a disappointment, other hotels have done this without being asked! We booked a trip through the hotel which was lovely (Isla Murjeres), and it was only when we booked were we offered some vouchers which we were able to use off the cost of the Bali bed/trip. We also had a massage on the beach via the hotel and Edwardo was amazing. However I would not recommend the hotel for one reason - the restaurants / food chaos on an evening. During the day the choice was great there are 2 buffet breakfast places (Flavours/Brassie) which were ok and had the usual cooking stations nothing exceptional. On a lunchtime you had a number of places to choose which are predominantly near the infinity pool/beach, a burger bar - Breeze, Oriola Pizzeria and fish tapas - Muelle Ocho, mexican - Chaka. The buffet is near the plaza and Lizzards both approx. 10 mins walk from the infinity pool area so cannot comment on the food in these two places. On an Evening we waited from 30-110 minutes to be seated for food. Guest start queuing from 5.30pm on an evening, which as a family we don't usually leave the pool until this time, however to get into the restaurants we had to leave early as the hotel only has a buffet restaurant open 1 night per week!! the restaurants would stop taking names/offering buzzers at 8 as the number of families waiting was too big and wouldn't get seated before it closed. All the restaurants are not open every night. When we stayed the hotel was only at 60% occupancy so I dread to think how long with a bigger occupancy (if it ever gets that full). In our experience the worst restaurant was the sea olive, we waited 1 hour 50 minutes to be seated, a further 10 minutes to be offered some water! 1/3 of the tables were empty but full of dirty plates/glasses etc. 1/3 of the tables were just empty. The waiters were either standing doing nothing or running round frantic. We ordered 2 different pasta which when they came were inedible and were sent back to the kitchen. Our daughter's pizza arrived 15 mins after we had sent our food back so she ate and we left not eating and no buffet to go to as it was 9pm and were past eating at that point! Flavours - French was ok the restaurant was very cold, as was the food they served, steak/chips etc. and the serves were lack luster and a bit clueless. Our second time of visiting we sent a fillet steak back 3 times as it was over cooked/tough that you couldn't eat it. We didn't visit the Mexican restaurant as other guests had mixed reviews about it and there was nothing on the menu our daughter would eat. Our favourite 3 restaurants were Koh Thai, Arezzo and Oriola Pizzeria. On our second visit to the Thai restaurant we ordered extra appetizers as they were small and did this on the other occasions. We ordered extra sides with your main in the Arezzo as the section of appetizers were limited on their menu so nothing we would have eaten. In Oriola Pizzeria they only do a small selection of pizzas and there is no sides or appetizers to order, but we were happy to just eat pizza as it was outside with a view of the beach and very relaxed / chilled atmosphere which is what we go on holiday to have. When I complained the Duty manager (Christina) about the Sea Olive and there being no buffet she outlined the hotel are looking to create an a 'la carte styled hotel. I explained for that to happen there needed to be more than the handful of restaurants they had. Other a 'la hotels where we have stayed and offer a 'la carte/waiter service on an evening have had 12+ restaurants to choose from and not horrific waits, which she seemed quite shocked at my response. Other guest from the UK we spoke with all had the same disappointment about the restaurant/food at the hotel. They like us had been there for 14 days and were fed up and wanted to go home. This might suit guests who are only there for 3-5 days any longer and its a bit of a nightmare.

  Beautiful Grounds and Lovely Staff, but Food Could Be Improved

  When we first arrived, the reception area felt a little underwhelming and could do with a lick of paint. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to an apartment overlooking the adult pool. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful – the lush jungle setting, the wildlife, and the cenote in the middle of the property make it a unique and enjoyable place to walk through. The beach area was also very nice and well maintained, with its own section separated from the seaweed by barriers out at sea, which made swimming much more pleasant. The common areas were generally very nice, although we did find that the pool area could feel a bit grubby at times, and some of the cups used at the bars didn’t seem to be washed thoroughly. Jacuzzi broken. While the staff throughout the resort were friendly, helpful, and really made us feel welcome, we found the food itself a little underwhelming. Room service was just terrible. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, enjoyed the setting, but feel the food and some attention to cleanliness in certain areas would make the experience even better.

  Amazing staff

  My family and I stayed at the Fives for 2 weeks. The staff were all so hardworking and kind and made sure our stay was enjoyable and relaxing. Carlos the waiter in Arezzo was amazing - we went there 3 times and he remembered our orders and drinks and he was so attentive and kind. Francisco the waiter in Sea Olive was so hard working and made sure we had a great meal. Bernardo in Koh Thai was also great fun and super attentive. Monse and Camilo from Joy and Wellness were amazing and they made our stay so fun and enjoyable. My family and I always practised our spanish with Monse and she was so kind. John from the hospitality team by the beach pool was super helpful and on it when we lost one of our belongings - he made sure we got it back asap and he was so lovely. All the staff deserve so much credit for their hard work and effort to make the holiday as amazing as possible. Rooms were great and very clean and our cleaner added lovely little touches like flowers in the room and little toilet paper and towel designs although the drinks fridge didn’t always get refilled and when we asked for it to be refilled they said they would come straight away but came 2-3 hours later. Breakfast buffet had everything you could want for breakfast and tasted great. Pools were very clean and swim up bars had any drink you could want. There is only really one negative comment to make and that is about the food wait time. We often had to wait 2-3 hours to get a table and some of the staff could not even tell us how long the wait would be. By the end of the 2 weeks we knew how it worked and the best time to go even if it meant eating at 5.30 which we are not used to. We saw some families with very young children waiting around for hours and only getting a table at 10pm. The food was of high quality but the system of waiting and that you have to be nearby while you wait while having no idea how long it will be has to be improved.

  great two weeks

  my husband and I visited here the first two weeks of july, after reading lots of negative comments i went into travel agents (Tui UK) to express my concerns and almost changed hotels! however we decided to give it a go!! we flew premium with tui from Gatwick (we’re from Gloucestershire) was happy with flight. my husband brought 600 cigarettes at Gatwick (we’re know we’re only allowed 400, he’s happy to pay tax if stopped) on arrival to Cancun airport we were pulled aside and bags searched he told them he had the cigarettes and we had to pay $40 US tax so they said which became £203 with their hidden 600+ tax! so be careful if you buy over allowance! we arrived at hotel, busy check in but straight forward and only $150 deposit. we had a one bedroom suite in villa 20 which was lovely but pointless having kitchen as no utensils or any need to use them! did miss having a kettle!! i like my yorkshire tea 😂 no robes or slippers but i asked maid and got them, it’s the little things 😂😂 bed huge and super comfy!! we spent our time at adults pool as i like the warm water and the vibe and natura restaurant was fab!! we went out most evenings at 6-6:30 never waited more than ten mins if any wait at all -and we visited most restaurants! our fave was brasserie and the manager Miguel was above and beyond!!! i’ve never met a nicer person 🥰 the lamb chops and fillet steak were beautiful 😍 i asked for chips (fries) every meal never an issue! we upgraded to a pent house second week (wish we had done it straight away) loved spending time up there in evenings and watching sunrises 🌅 smoothie shop was very good!! loved their oatmeal raisin cookies 🍪 beach was disappointing but didn’t let it affect our holiday and they tried so hard cleaning it!! we booked catamaran to isla mejures with a stop at playa notre with carla our rep (she’s fab! loved her) and the two for one dolphin experience, cost £99 worth every penny we upgraded to swim on arrival $50 for us both recommended however photos are expensive! not allowed to take your own! i paid $136 us for 12 digital pics! we had couple minor niggles/complaints although would say complaints is too hard a word! reported to reception and dealt with immediately. I really suffer with mosquitoes but didn’t really get many but i wore avon skin so soft and a yellow band… i couldn’t fault this holiday we had the best two weeks met some amazing people and the monkeys 🐒 and wildlife made my trip! i did pay the visit tax (used wrong site be careful looks official) got charged £100 instead of $20 us and didn’t have to show it! we had full body massage on beach at wilma’s and was so good! enjoy your stay ❤️ forgot to add great hair dryer, also iron and ironing board in room
