Dec 30, 2025Great Value for Families: Spacious Rooms and Excellent Service at The Fives
Overview As a frequent traveler to Naples, Antigua, and the Bahamas, I am usually wary of all-inclusives, but we wanted a simple, relaxing last-minute getaway. We are a family of four with two teenage daughters (15 and 19), and we chose The Fives Hotel & Residences specifically for their two-bedroom, two-bathroom units. Having separate bathrooms was a priority to avoid "dinner time battles," and we loved that the suite allowed us to be close to our daughters while still having our own space. Room & Accommodations (Building 8) We requested a room above the main floor ahead of time, and the hotel accommodated us perfectly. We stayed on the second floor of Building 8, overlooking the pool. Even without a paid upgrade, the view and location were excellent. The Layout: The unit was massive, featuring two full bathrooms and a powder room. The Condition: This is an older part of the resort. You will notice some wear and tear on the appliances and bathroom caulking, but the room was spotless. The housekeeping staff did a phenomenal job, and the bedding and towels were always fresh. Amenities: The A/C worked perfectly, and we had three balconies, including one large enough for all four of us to lounge on. Note: The kitchen is not stocked, so bring your own cutlery/Tupperware if you plan on bringing snacks back from the buffet. Dining & Peanut Allergy Management Our youngest daughter has a severe peanut allergy. We were very impressed that every restaurant asked about allergies immediately. Breakfast: We preferred the buffet at La Brasserie over the main buffet, as it felt less prone to cross-contamination. Since nuts weren't always labeled at the buffet, the staff was happy to make fresh pancakes or French toast from the back to ensure safety. Dinner: We aren't members, so we couldn't make reservations. We got strategic by grabbing buzzers for two restaurants and eating at whichever was ready first. Rankings: Oka Sushi was outstanding. Seasons (for Epic members) was phenomenal. Arezzo and La Brasserie were very good. Koh Thai was a bit underwhelming, but we are from Toronto and have high standards for Thai food! Drinks: The tequila-based drinks (Palomas, Margaritas, Mezcalitas) were outstanding. The wine and frozen daiquiris were a bit "meh," so you may want to order from the premium wine list if you are a connoisseur. Pools & Beach Pools: We loved the "High Energy Pool" in front of our building. Despite the name, it was quite peaceful with plenty of loungers and an accessible swim-up bar. The girls enjoyed the Teens' pool for water volleyball. We avoided the Infinity Pool as it was overcrowded with small children. The Beach: This was the only disappointing part. The swimming area is small, rocky, and quite wavy due to a broken breakwater. It isn't ideal for playing catch or calm swimming. However, the beach is great for long walks. Regarding seaweed, there was minimal sargassum during our stay—there was some present, but nothing that caused any concerns or impacted our time on the sand. Pro Tip: We rented a Bali Bed for two days to secure a front-row spot by the ocean. Our server, Pablo, took amazing care of us—the beach staff work incredibly hard and deserve great tips! Excursions & Connectivity We pre-booked a private tour to Akumal to swim with turtles. It was a highlight! The beach there is beautiful and calm. We also visited a cenote, but found it a bit too crowded and cold for the kids. Regarding connectivity, the resort Wi-Fi was excellent; we kept our roaming off and stayed connected without any issues. Tipping & Value We brought about 6,500 Pesos (approx. $500 CAD) in small bills for tipping. It was well worth it—our glasses were never empty, and the service was consistently friendly. This isn't a "luxury" resort in the sense of opulence, but for the price and the experience, it was a great value. A Note on Air Transat Flying Air Transat from Canada was seamless. They were incredibly prepared for our daughter’s peanut allergy and managed it better than any other airline we’ve used. Their in-seat entertainment and on-time performance started our vacation on the right foot. Travel Dates: December 14 - 21, 2025

Very friendly and courteous staff. Helpful at all times. You'll get a smile and a "Hola" from every worker on the resort. Great food. We particularly liked Lizzards and Koh. We also really enjoyed the authentic Mexican cooking and dining experience at Casa De Rosa. We stayed in a villa with 2 bedrooms which also had a kitchen, small island, and living room with a couch, TV and coffee table. This was perfect for our family of 4. The walks through on the resort made you feel like you were doing a bit of exploring through the jungle where we saw Monkeys, Coati's and Turtles.

Best family holiday vacation ever for family of 8!!!
Outstanding Ambassadors Daniel, Diana, Perez exceeded our expectations for every special request and reservation. Bali Bed Butler service Bernard took care our beach and pool Bali beds food requests etc beyond our expectations daily. Alexandros pool side service daily was amazing and precisely as requested. Augusta at epic pool was amazing at service and activities beyond expectations. Awesome Daily hydrotherapy at the spa by Aldair was excellent way to start our day. I’ll add more information as I remember it later. The daily entertainment and activities including fitness types were excellent.

Feel The Fives Experience: Amazing Service!!!
We had an epic time at The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences Playa del Carmen again this year!!! So many people contributed to such a great experience: Pedro at the 8 am Tennis Clinics: we have no idea how Pedro can multitask with so many people! Pedro feeds balls way faster than a ball machine! LOL 🎾 La Brasserie breakfast: Nataly makes the BEST omelettes every morning with a beautiful smile 😁 and a great memory of our orders! 🍳😋 A special “Gracias” to Wendy and Paola who always helped us get a table outdoors as well making my Birthday breakfast so special! 🥰 Sea Olive & Romantic Dinner on the beach: Chef Alessandro Di Fiore: delivers consistent, hot & delicious high quality entrees and takes allergies seriously and will make an alternative dish to ensure a great dining experience! 👨🍳😋 Mucho Gracias to the attentive staff for the romantic beach dinner! They work hard at making our romantic dinner extra special with top notch service! 👍 New Seasons Restaurant: Mucho gracias Renault for introducing another great dining experience at The Fives! The service is outstanding and the food is so delicious!!! Gracias Gilberto who was so pleasant and provided amazing service! This year we frequented Donatella for ice cream 🍦. This was a bonus as soft serve ice cream was the only option last year. The ice cream was high quality and lots of great flavours like Lime Pie, Coconut, Irish Cream, Neapolitan etc. 😋. A special “ Gracias” to David who always greeted us with a smile and muscled his way scooping ice cream for us! 💪😂 Mucho gracias to Marisol & Tania Building 1 Cleaning Staff for their daily efforts in cleaning our rooms with minimal disruption to our schedules! 🧹👍😁 There are so many more staff to thank. We leave The Fives pampered, relaxed, well fed, new memories & experiences!

Wonderful resort, excellent customer service
We celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary in this wonderful resort. We were pampered from the time we checked in up to our last day. Aside from this stunning resort, the excellent gourmet foods to die for, I have to acknowledge the staff of The Fives. The professionalism, the attention to details, the hard works of each of everyone of them are par excellence. To mention a few: Thania & Rosy from the Prestige Epic front desk tried their best to accommodate our needs. Kristoff, our ambassador demonstrates what excellent service quality is all about. Bernabe & Tino, the beach staff are very attentive & always around to serve us. Not to forget Alejandro, the towel boy. Anayeli, the maitre de from La Brasserie & the servers Juan & Belisario always make the start of our day a delight. Dionisio & Damian from the plaza bar always ends our day with a big smile. Geremia from Natural makes the best healthy smoothies & shakes . These people are the assets of your organization. As always, we will be back to this resort for sure.
