Beautiful resort, excellent food, a bit disorganized
We came to the fives as a group of 2 married couples. We booked the 2 bedroom swim up for the last week in January. I do understand that is the busy season so it may have impacted our stay. Overall we had a lovely time. We found The Fives to be a beautiful resort with plenty of variety. We would probably come again and recommend it to friends, but we have some criticisms. Room: We were in building 17 and our room attached to the epic members pool, though we are not epic members, so we had access to the epic bar and pool which was nice. Our bedrooms were spacious and clean. The kitchen and living area was also great. The bedrooms and living area were attached via a vestibule with one room being just a bedroom and the other having the bedroom and living area attached. Everything was very beautiful and the housekeeping staff did a great job keeping the room clean and the fridge well stocked. The pool attached to our room was a bit chilly. We had good sun in the morning and until around 2, but it was still cold most days, not that that wasn’t welcome some days. Beach: To be honest we didn’t go to the beach at all except to walk along the shore at night. The loungers on the beach were all filled up quickly and we didn’t feel like it was worth the hassle. Pools: The main pool was very full, it was difficult to find a lounger, but that’s wasn’t a problem because we discovered we really did not like the drinks at the main pool. They were very weak and super bland. If you closed your eyes you couldn’t tell a frozen margarita from a pina colada. We loved the adults only pool. It is the only heated pool in the resort and it was a perfect temperature. The bar at this pool was also our favorite and the proximity to natura grill was very convenient. There was a DJ there one of the days and we loved that, it was the perfect fun and relaxing vibe. We wish the DJ was there more often. Bars: The bars were not all created equal. As I mentioned the main pool bar was a big miss for us. Our favorite bar was Natura at the adult pool. Jannet and Azucena were so accommodating and skilled. They are excellent bar tenders and ensured our drinks were exactly right. The skinny mezcalita with tajin was my favorite. We also enjoyed the epic members bar and 1810 cantina. I was rather disappointed with the Gin Bar. I love gin and was very excited about this bar, but when I asked for a French 75 the bartender had no idea what I was talking about and made a very sweet drink with lime. Additionally they did not have olives, so they could not make a dirty martini, which I feel is a bit crazy for a “gin bar.” Dining: We loved Mestizo! Pablo took excellent care of us and we had so much fun. Every dish was delicious and the golden margaritas were fantastic and refreshing. The tlayuda and Mexican carousel were standouts. Another favorite was Oka-Sushi. I don’t eat seafood but there were many vegetarian options for me, and my husband and friends said they really enjoyed everything and they eat sushi often. They put it at the top of their list. The Brasserie was also very good, especially the appetizers. I did not care for the duck, I found it chewy, but the ribeye was delicious. Arezzo was also surprisingly good. We are from New York and are used to excellent Italian, but we enjoyed our meals immensely at Arezzo. The pizzas were thin and crispy and the mushroom ravioli was our favorite. For breakfast, Flavours buffet was good, but we preferred the Brasserie. Our waiter Miguel was attentive and the food was great. The French toast was my favorite. We tried room service for breakfast and lunch and found both to be pretty good, though our order was wrong once it was quickly corrected. We tried Flavours once for dinner buffet. Once was more than enough, we found the food here to be terrible. The theme that night was “international.” The meat was cooked into hockey pucks, the lettuce at the salad bar was chopped into such large pieces that 3 pieces filled your plate. The desserts were bland and dry. I wasn’t expecting gourmet, but the food at the nursing home I work at is better. For lunch we ate at the Yucatán brunch by the beach which was amazing. We also tried the fresh tacos and quesadillas in the plaza which were equally great. We ate a naturas as well which wasn’t our favorite but it was good enough. We also wish we could have gotten guacamole or something by the pool. We did the Casa De Rosa experience for our last night. Fatima and Wendy were hospitable, knowledgeable, and so fun. We enjoyed the tequila tasting and the cooking experience. Unfortunately we found our main course to be so salty it was almost inedible. We truly think someone made a mistake or something. We also had the opportunity to have dinner next door at Santa Sirena at the beachfront hotel. This was definitely our favorite meal. The bar was top notch here. My husband was able to enjoy his dirty martinis here and I had an excellent French 75. My friend’s cosmo was also great. The food was 10/10 amazing. If you have the opportunity to eat here it’s a must. Excursions: We booked the Ruta Maya Akumal. This includes the Aztec ruins at Tulum, swimming in a cenote, and snorkeling with wild sea turtles. Our guide Enrique was very knowledgeable and fun. We enjoyed our time and don’t regret going, but you do spend a lot of time in a van. And on the way back you’re in a wet bathing suit, there was no chance to change into dry clothes before the return trip. I don’t think I would do this trip again, though it was very unique. Definitely make sure you see a cenote. That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. General service/the “ambassador” program: The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there seemed to be general disorganization and lack of communication. For example our ambassador booked our reservation at Santa Sirena and we put it in our calendar immediately. When we arrived, Santa Sirena had no idea about the reservation and had to “squeeze” us in. It turns out we were booked for the next night, which was impossible because we were doing Casa De Rosa that night. Additionally we had an issue with our safe. My husband reached out to our ambassador who said someone would be right over. We waited for 4 hours in our room until housekeeping arrived and we explained what we were waiting for and he called security. We had messaged them during the wait as well and they assured us someone would be “right there.” Also multiple times during our stay when I gave my name the staff insisted I did not exist in the system. Perhaps I just have a difficult name, but it was frustrating, especially when first trying to check in. We were not planning to do the timeshare presentation but our ambassador Aleks offered a very good deal. We got dinner at casa de Rosa for 4, dinner at Santa Sirena for 4, and half off our excursion so it was worth it. The salesperson was friendly and not overly pushy, just doing his job. We said no and were out in 54 minutes. Also! If your booking includes transportation, be mindful that it is YOUR duty to email the hotel with your flight information. They will not reach out to you as I had wrongly assumed. We ended up having to book at taxi to the hotel which was pricey. The hotel did give us a partial credit for our inconvenience which was appreciated. Overall we had a great time. We loved the lush jungle environment and seeing the Coatis and the monkeys. We were able to relax and enjoy delicious food and tasty drinks.

Had a great time - with some minor issues
The resort is very well kept - on the outside. Inside our room was a bit worn and dated. There is a serious lack of beach chair issue throughout the resort, especially by the beach. Almost a month after our trip I still have not received our initial deposit back. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you check your final bill at check out because ours was full of mistakes and overcharges. Other than that, our trip was fantastic. The food was great. Our ambassador Aleks provided excellent services. Every server we met on the resort were helpful and friendly. If I see a good deal like the one I had I would not hesitate to go back.

Beautiful resort with amazing staff. Incredible food and atmosphere.
Overall just an amazing experience. Beautiful resort and the staff were incredibly friendly. The food was so delicious. I would love to return again someday. It was so hard to leave. Everyone there does an amazing job keeping the place looking as beautiful as it is. It’s hard being back in this frozen Canadian wasteland looking at pictures and videos on my phone.

January get away to The Fives.
The Fives is located about 1 hour from the Airport. The Hotel/Residences are lovely, the grounds are nicely manicured and well kept. All the staff were friendly and most we spoke to-spoke English. We enjoyed the food at all the restaurants, we found it was noisy at the Mexican restaurant though, also noisy at Flavours for breakfast and dinner. The dinner time wait staff at Arezzo and Sea Olive were outstanding as was the food. We frequented the Gin Bar and the 1910 Bar, we preferred the ambience, service and staff (Ulises 1 and 2) at the 1910 Bar. There are plenty of pools but only one heated pool and lounges around the pools were sometimes hard to find as guests were out at 7:30am putting towels out to save spots. It was a bit easier to find a spot in the shade at the beach. The housekeeping staff do a marvellous job keeping the rooms and breezeways clean, the staff that looked after water and other beverages were very diligent making sure we were well supplied. Being able to get around the resort by a shuttle passing by every 15 mins was also a plus and the drivers were so nice. This was our second visit to The Fives, we had a lovely time.
