Wonderful-- truly!
I feel at a loss to describe the true hospitality and peace we experienced at this hotel. We ended up there completely by accident -- we thought we would be able to get on a chartered plane from St. Croix (we were in St Thomas and unable to go home on commercial flights due to the military operation in Venezuela). That didn't pan out and we stayed in St. Croix for an extra day. The staff, everything, really everything about this place seems almost magical. When our 8 year old daughter (loudly) expressed worry about the safety of our returning flight to nyc, one of the staff members-- I never got her name unfortunately-- hugged her and reassured her so lovingly it brought me to tears. If we return to the Caribbean (we were stuck there for 15 days), we would absolutely stay at The Buccaneer. Thank you.

Needs new ownership
Beautiful rooms and wonderful staff but the resort has problems. The so-called “private “ beach is stacked 4-deep in plastic chairs because the hotel sells chairs to anyone who shows up for $50 a piece. Meals on the beach can take 2 hours to get. There are signs saying “no cell phones “ but no one enforces it so people play music and talk loudly all around you. At breakfast one day, a big table of non-hotel guests sat down next to us and a little boy took out an iPad and started watching TV at full volume. I asked the server if that was allowed and she said “We used to be able to tell people not to do that but the owners told us that now we’re allowed to say anything”. Dinner prices are very steep and food is mediocre. Tennis is great and there’s a nice jogging path. The views are stunning. This could be a top notch hotel but it needs someone to make it classier and more efficient.

A Vacation Gem
The Buccaneer offers beautiful views, lovely grounds, and warm and friendly staff. Our room had an a/c issue but the staff attended to the problem, followed up to see that all was well, and always put our convenience and comfort first. The room was quiet and clean and I appreciated the tile floors allowing for minimal sand. I would suggest some paper towels and access to a broom/dust pan to even further help with keeping everything fresh. The beach was a great space to relax and the chairs, tables, etc. where in very good condition. The upper pool allowed for a private swim workout that felt luxurious. Leila was helpful in giving advice for swimming in the ocean and Aldrich was very attentive at the front desk. The breakfast staff and quality varied a little, the omelet bar was consistently good. Other items were very good some days and less so others. Overall though, it was nice to have the buffet each day. The dinners were delicious at both the Terrace and Mermaid restaurants. This was our second visit and we look forward to returning!

Warning!!
Warning: Stay away from 2nd floor rooms facing the front at The Buccaneer, St. Croix! I checked into the main building and thought I'd be getting a relaxing stay... nope. Got woke up by loud golf carts, slamming car doors, and loud phone talks. Went to front desk to complain and got a major attitude. One staff member (tall guy with glasses) was super unhelpful and basically argued with me . If you want sleep, avoid 2nd floor front-facing rooms like the plague. Not worth it.

Beautiful beach resort
Great location! It was easy to head down to the beautiful beaches and enjoy towels and lounge chairs provided by the hotel. The front desk was very helpful in arranging taxis and in lending towels for excursions where we might get wet. Our room was large and well-appointed with a beautiful balcony. The Terrace Restaurant had a delicious buffet breakfast each morning with a wide array of hot and cold choices, and the view from this covered patio is phenomenal. What kept this resort from being perfect for us was their sense of time. We couldn't walk ourselves to our room at checkin (literally 15 feet from the front desk, it turned out!) -- we had to wait 20 minutes for a bellhop after a long flight. One evening, the restaurant was slammed because of a widespread power outage, and could not honor our reservation -- we were told it would be two hours to be seated, or one hour to receive room service. Room service actually came after two and a half hours. Although we understood the unusual situation, we would have appreciated more transparency in both cases.
