2/10 stay, look around…
Very disappointed with the overall experience. I would recommend doing research, if you’re able to see my Sunscape review, please view it. If you are one who travels frequently to semi frequently, you might want to look at another place. The drinks were not very good(diluted) and liquor quality was poor, we bought several bottles off of the location and they were much better, even took some home.

Great staff horrible food
The staff is AMAZING!!! Christian, Jose, Omar, and Nesto did such a great job. They helped us feel like we were at home and made sure we enjoyed every minute. I will say that the food and the pool were not nice. I didn't have a warm meal the entire trip... the pool was dirty and was only cleaned one time during our two week stay. We ended up leaving the resort for almost every meal ... I wish the food and pool were as good as the staff!

An honest perspective from a seasoned traveller
So… here is the skinny on the Sunscape Puerto Vallarta. For context, we were a small group of adult friends and family who travelled together, and we booked a “club” level room. Upon arrival, I mentioned to the bellman that we were club level and we were immediately brought inside to the club room where we were able to sit and enjoy a cold drink while we checked in. ✔️club level! We were given a corner room in the main building that faces the ocean. The view was spectacular. The room itself was nice. It was large and nicely decorated. The hotel is not new and per some of the other reviews it can look a little “tired”. Our sectional couch for example sagged and looked a little tattered. The bathroom although very functional, had older fixtures, excess caulking in spots and was just a little dated. The shower was separate from the sink area and toilet which had its own door. The water pressure and temp for the shower was excellent. We had one issue with the room and that was the temperature. The first night our room was 27C (80F) so it was HOT! We were able to relocate that night and were given a room back the next day after the A/C was repaired. The temperature the rest of the week the temp was between 22-23C. Being from Canada, I would have preferred a few degrees colder but it is what it is. Thank-you to Lupita and Karla at the front desk for understanding the situation and relocating us that 1st night and continuing to take care of us throughout the week. Time to talk about the food! We went to the main buffet restaurant the first night and I don’t know if we were influenced by all the negative reviews or if was just an off night, but we were far from impressed. We were ready to pack it in then and there. It did not help that our first experience with food at the hotel was during our registration in the “club” lounge. The food there was just nasty. It was far from impressive and was picked over by the time we got there. Not a great first impression. Good news! Our opinion changed as the week went on and we settled in. The next morning (our 1st) we stopped by the coffee bar where we were greeted by Gaudalupe. She made the best coffee. When she was not there Ana stepped in. Great spot to grab a coffee a few bananas and a slab or two of marble cake or banana bread! We visited every morning and were never disappointed. We tried the buffet restaurant for breakfast a few mornings when we felt like more than just a banana or two and it was good. The omelettes are especially good and worth the wait. The orange juice, well is just not juice but flavoured sugar water… I’d skip it! Throughout out the week the food at the buffet seemed to get better or we just got better at selecting it. I would rate it a solid 6/7 on 10, which is a big improvement from our first night whereby it was barely a 2/3. Our experience at DaMarios Italian restaurant was ok. Many that we spoke to rate the food higher than we would, I’d give it a solid 6.5 but it’s hard to screw up pasta even in MX. We ate at the Grill the last night where we enjoyed our best meal of the week. We had the BBQ ribs and really enjoyed them. It was the first meal where presentation was considered, my only comment would be that the food good have been hotter… but it was very tasty! We never tried Tico Taco so we do not have anything to say about it. The one spot that we enjoyed 5 out of 7 days was the food truck. Christian made a pretty good burger! And the nachos were a good side on most days. We did get potato wedges one day that were really good. Thank-you to the lady in the food truck area who assisted by keeping the area clean and moving the umbrellas to ensure we were out of the sun while eating. I want to give a shout out to Enrique and Omar at the beach bar whom were both very friendly but who also made some great drinks through the week! Thank-you both! Another shout out to the entertainment team who worked hard to make the week special for everyone. I have to say that the staff in general are all very friendly and do make a great effort to ensure that their guests are well taken care of. A last note about the extra cost for the “club” level. ✔️The reception at arrival and check-in was worth it. ✔️Our view was better because of it. ✔️The access to the beach area is well worth it. But, the club lounge, particularly the food was far from spectacular and “club” level should be given priority seating areas by the pool and in the restaurants as per other hotels. Overall, I’d would rate our experience a 7.5/8 on 10. The location can’t be beat. Close to everything, malls, restaurants and short bus to the Malecon. The beach is great! Waves can be strong so be careful. Try the parasailing with Alfredo and team.. well with the money for the experience and do buy the drone video from David. It’s amazing!! I can see why there is such a wide range of reviews and different perspectives. The hotel is older and the food is just OK but the service is great, the staff has heart and the location is great!!

Not The Worst But Not The Best
This was my first time in Puerto Vallarta and this was the resort that we chose. ( My comments will be all over the board here as I will make note as I remember things of importance) It was visually appealing on line. The staff are incredibly friendly and are willing to help you with whatever you need. There is a good selection of stores on site for forgotten items or things you run out of. The furniture is outdated throughout the lobby and the lounge area with no padding on the cushions and the covers are showing their age. The front desk will go over the "rules" when you check in yet they are not enforced. The largest one being is that there is not saving of deck chairs by the pool. After respecting that rules for the first 4 days we joined forces and went with the flow. People are out at 6 am saving spaces with personal effects and towels that they kept over night. There is a condo complex that has access to the pool as well so they are around using the facilities as well. There are bins before you go up on the elevator to collect towels as they ask that none are taken up to the rooms. If you get service by the pool, make sure you keep tipping them to have them return on a regular basis. I would recommend that you bring with you your own personal drinking vessel. The ones they have there are small plastic cups that are rinsed and then put into to a cleaning agent. This is what we saw at the bar. There was no hot water wash. The location is great. 10 minutes to the airport and right next door to an open air mall. Plenty of amenities there. Our room was nice and spacious with a mini fridge. The lock on the safe was smashed but was still able to hold a combination. The housekeeping staff was in every day and did a lovely job. The air conditioner worked will which was a plus. The buffet is poorly laid out for flow. You are forever bumping into people as you get caught walking in circles looking for things. The food greatly improved on Wednesday. I think that is when they have a staff change. We had a Sunday to Sunday vacation. There are LOTS of kids at this resort. They have a great kids area with slides and spray park items. Would I go back to this resort? If someone bought it for me. I think there are ones that are better. It is a good value for your money. I wouldn't go out of my way to book there again.

SKIP IT
Skip This Property I'm writing this four days into a six-day stay, and my advice is simple: skip this property. It took 40 minutes to post this review because the internet is that bad. Let it be said that they deliver on every promise. Every activity and amenity described is accurate. However, everything meets the absolute bare minimum standard. Other than room cleanliness, every aspect of the guest experience needs attention. It all looks good in pictures, but the reality falls short. Nothing here is outright bad — it's all just sub-par. And every little inconvenience compounds. You get niggled to the point where it erodes the entire experience. We've actually left the hotel to find other places to eat. At an all-inclusive resort. That's how disappointing it is. My issue isn't that problems exist — it's that they know about every single one and take zero action. The WiFi is unusable. When you report it, they tell you "our WiFi doesn't like Apple devices" and direct you to a specific person at the front desk who "always fixes it." The soda is flat with no carbonation. Their response? "Sorry, let me get you one from the other bar — this machine doesn't work well." You want coffee with cream? Sorry, cream is only served at breakfast. Later, it's just milk. No explanation. Want a blended coffee from the 24-hour coffee shop? "We only serve those from 12:30." Kids want the water slide? It doesn't open until noon. Want an extra towel for the bathroom? "How many people are staying in the room? We can only provide that number." Come on. The pool towels are so worn they shred like a wild cat was sharpening its claws on them. Hot dogs on the kids' buffet? Sure — there's a hot dog sitting on a gas station-style roller machine, but no buns. For two days. Occupancy is high but staffing is low. When you mention it, they say they're "busier than expected." How? You have the reservation details. There are only two places to eat. How exactly are you caught off guard? A plastic cup sat on the pool deck and staff members walked right over it. They saw it. They just didn't care. If it's not their specific job, they're not touching it. The guest experience is clearly not a priority, and basic hospitality awareness is missing. The property is safe, the rooms are clean, and the maintenance team keeps things in decent shape. Nothing is rusted or falling apart. The problem isn't neglect — it's apathy. They know what's broken and they've chosen to live with it. Everything here is a struggle. It's not relaxing. This is a resort for Canadian retirees escaping winter, where anything is better than shoveling snow. If that's your bar, you'll survive. If you're looking for a genuine resort experience, look elsewhere.
