Skip staying at Sunscape!
I am at the Sunscape right now. We paid extra to upgrade to the Sun Club. Last night the buffet was closed for a special buffet outside featuring the local cuisine. It opened at 6:30 pm and we arrived at 6:30 pm. The line up was huge and it wasn’t moving. There was a 17 table waiting list for the Italian restaurant. We had to leave the resort and go to Mambo beach and pay $190 US for the 4 of us to eat. We are Canadian so that was $268 for us. I have travelled a lot and I haver NEVER had to leave an all inclusive resort to get dinner. Management is sending champagne to our rooms????? I would not recommend this resort, EVER!!! Also, the rooms are very dated and nothing special. We had to walk through sewage leaking out of a room near our room for 2 days. Ridiculous. We paid over $3,000 each to stay at this place and sadly it is not worth it.

Save your money!!
It really pains me to write this but like the title says - save your money. This wasn't our first stay at the resort. The quality of the resort has gone down tremendously since our first stay. But we always came back because the staff doing the actual, real work on the resort are absolutely lovely. The beach is great, as well as the cove and critters you can find snorkeling. Unfortunately, that will no longer bring us back. We were there for 10 days/9 nights. And sadly, it took several days just to get a working room. By the time we actually "settled in", it was time to leave. Very unrelaxing vacation. Upon arrival, we had a speedy check-in and received a room in the "newest" building on the resort. Room 2203 - Jr Suite with Oceanview. At 3am, we woke up to lights flashing, popping noises and a horrific smell of burning plastic. We reported it immediately to the front desk and they come into the room with a look of terror on their face. They sent someone down "immediately", and the wire that burnt in the closet outside the room was fixed by 8am. We had very little sleep that night and had to sit on the balcony for hours due to the toxic smell of burning plastic. The 2nd day/Night 2 - We got back to the room after a day of scuba diving (not with the resort) and we lost power again, however this time we couldn't wait for the issue to be fixed because we had an excursion planned for 5:15pm that evening. We asked the supervisor with whom we were dealing with if she could provide us with either an empty room or the spa to shower. We had to wait several hours for an available room in the 6 building which was all the way on the other side of the resort. When I expressed my annoyance and that it was unacceptable, the blond gentleman at the front desk stated, "at least I got to shower". We walked back to our room and thankfully the power was restored so we were able to shower in the original room (2203) and get ready in time for our excursion. We returned back to the resort that evening and thankfully, the room seemed to be fixed, and we went to sleep. At 1:00am, we were woken up by the same popping sound and burning smell. The front desk was able to give us a room near the original room just for us to sleep in for the night (2202). However, not much sleep was had due to the fact that the ductless ac unit installed above the bed was dripping on our heads all night. When we woke up, the mattress was soaking wet and I'm sure on its way to being full of mold, if not already. Day3/Night3 - This was our anniversary. After another day of scuba diving and thankfully off the resort, we were told that they did not want to ruin our vacation any longer and would be upgrading us to the 3 section. The only problem with that was that the room (and all rooms in that section) stink of mold. The hotel is aware of this problem because as I said we've stayed here before, but they don't seem to address it and just hope that people don't complain. I was getting a headache from just minutes in the room. We even asked an employee to confirm the mold smell, and they agreed that the room smelled of mold. After discussing again with the supervisor, who also agreed the room smelled of mold, she went from room to room trying to find an acceptable spot for us to stay. They finally upgraded us to the highest suite (2201 - the honeymoon suite) they had. We couldn't get in until 5pm that night, though. After moving all of our belongings for a third time, we were hoping that all issues were resolved. However, I can't imagine someone paying top dollar for that room. The hot water handle of the faucet fell off in my hands after trying to wash them. And the left sink was clogged. The shower had no door, nor shower curtain so that when you showered, water went all over the floor. Despite asking for a shower curtain for days, one was not provided until day 7. We had to use 4 body towels on the floor each day to try to stop the water from coming out into the room. The towels were soaking wet. Day 4/Night 4 - Electric in new room 2201 goes out at 4:00am and we decide to sit on the beach to cool down and the beach attendant yells at us that we are in his way of cleaning the beach. We tried to explain that we didn't have an operational room and he stormed off. This beach is extremely large. He could've started on the other end. We also confirmed with the front desk. Guests are permitted to be on the beach at any time. By day 5 we had just had it. There was a very strong smell of sewage in the room. Oh, and a cockroach flew out from under the napkin at the Italian restaurant when dinner was being served. The waitress was horrified and just kept on serving like nothing happened. Just no words Day 6 - our lock on the door stopped working and had to wait for maintenance to fix it. It's important to note that the electrical issues were not island wide as you can expect from time to time, nor were they hotel wide. This was an issue just in a block of rooms in the 2 section. This seems to be an issue that they are aware of, but again, no action is taken to remedy this. We have seen the general managers on different trips to this hotel taking out phones and recording issues they see. We have even been approached by several asking for input. But despite all of this, nothing changes. Just different general managers each time. As we were leaving, they had closed guest walkways so that they could take updated photos for the new owners of this resort. My suggestion for them is that they should've also saved they're money - they need to make some major renovations to the rooms.

Bring some snacks because the food is bad
The room was great, very clean, the ocean was spectacular bring your snorkeling gear! My only complaint the food was really 👎. It never was served hot and the staff was kind but BEYOND SLOW MOVING! We left the resort to eat becauce it was so bad. If you ordered a spicy chiken sandwich it was just chicken, dry and tough to eat with no sause. I ordered a caprese sandwich it was a very thin piece of cheese with 1/2 a piece of tomato. No taste no basil. Stale bread. Don't even get me started on the buffet!

Fantastic Getaway
As anyone would be, my husband and I were initially concerned after reading some negative reviews. However, our experience was absolutely perfect! Maybe we just got lucky—but we stayed in Room 8218 in the Sun Club section and had zero issues. The AC worked (almost too well), our fridge was stocked daily, and we always had hot water. No complaints about the room at all! The staff were friendly, the food was fantastic, and the beach was pure perfection—great for snorkeling. If you’re expecting first-class accommodations, this resort may not be for you, but for us, it was wonderful. Curacao has so much more to offer beyond the resorts—rent a car and explore the beautiful island! Willemstad is just a 10-minute drive, and Mambo Beach is a quick 5-minute walk from the hotel with amazing restaurants. Thank you, Sunscape! We will definitely be back
