    Disappointing stay

Normally I don’t read a whole lot into reviews as most of them are negative but this time Im feeling compelled to give people a heads up of this resort. This is my first time ever posting a negative review of anywhere and we travel quite frequently. Positive things here are the beach, the people and the sunshine. If you still go here after this heads up, then it’s on you. Firstly, the check in process was painfully long. Almost 30 mins of standing there (and not even offered a welcome drink by anyone at the door. Which is fine but just odd…)The front desk offers you an upgrade to one of their “higher end rooms” along with access to one more restaurant, room service, beach property etc. (The rooms are still not that great from what I hear but maybe ask to see the room first before you book the upgrade) We didn’t take the offer and ended up in a super run down room with no hot water. Building 6. We ended up going back to the front desk and asked for a room change which could only happen the next day(which was fine)It got better (building 4) but still not great. The rooms however, were clean and we appreciated the housekeeping staff. Security wise..The patio doors do not lock and there is no sign of any security people around the property (other than 1 or 2 of them we saw down on the beach.)There is partying going on all night almost every night here. Sometime until 5am with no security around to shut it down at a decent hour. There is absolutely no regard for other guests that are just looking for a relaxing vacation. If you want to party, be loud and disturb others, this is your resort. Customer service..well, we really didn’t get much of that unfortunately..The only people that are on top of you is the blue shirt people that swarm around you in the lobby. The restaurant staff do not even serve you drinks or clear your table. We had to constantly flag someone to come over or just get up and get our own drinks. We were thinking, is it just us? But no..we had numerous conversations with many guests and they ALL had the same complaints. It’s truly unbelievable. We had one good waiter. We believe his name was Raoul. We wish the staff would realize that the way they make tips is to actually “interact” with their guests! It was truly sad. We have never experienced this type of service anywhere. On the positive side, it didn’t cost me too much tip money I guess.. The food. They have a lot of food and you shouldn’t have a problem finding at least something to eat. The snack bar serves (raw in the middle)burgers so just be careful of that. They have 2 cafes outside of the restaurant and the staff there were lovely and the coffee was good. The bar staff was ok however, each bartender was not consistent with their drink recipes. Some of the drinks were really good but they all need to get on the same page for consistency sake so that people aren’t tossing their drinks out. They all seem to have different recipes for the same drink.. Seems like such a waste of stock. Also which we thought was kind of comical, they had a tendency to serve the younger bikini crowd first but ah well..not much I can do there lol The beach…well, there was definitely some seaweed but we expected that. What we didn’t expect was for a large tractor going back and forth in the middle of the afternoon during peak times. So much for a relaxing day at the beach! The seaweed was kept at bay for the most part. The pool. Well, we didn’t see the pool get cleaned or shocked too often. There is a lot of hair and body oil slicks in the pool. So just beware that it’s a little bit nasty in there. First aid ..So, we witnessed a woman passed out(we think she was staff actually). The temp was probably 30 degrees Celsius and it looked like no one knew first aid. They swarmed around her and it seemed no one knew what to do. They got her a wheelchair but she was unresponsive. It was truly scary to be a witness of. Hopefully that turned out ok…A few days later, We went on an excursion to the Sacred River park and I ended up getting severe food poisoning from their “Dominican lunch” . Thankfully my friend recognized that I had not come back from the washroom. I was in severe distress. No emergency help was given there either. All staff just watched us struggle. I could barely walk because I was so weak. When we got back to the hotel, no assistance there either. My friends carried me back to my room with no one assisting with a wheelchair or anything. Folks probably thought I was just a another drunk or something. I made sure to report it to my air Canada rep the next day. Not sure if he is going to report it or not. Regardless I am relieved the outcome wasn’t worse.. I’m grateful for the time away from the cold but we will not be returning to Sunscape coco Punta Cana nor will we recommend. Some major upgrades and customer service training need to be done here.

This is a large resort. If you have mobility issues, recommend bringing an electric chair. Great for families.

Sunscapes Coco, This resort has a very short transfer from the airport, which is very nice. On arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a welcomed non alcoholic beverage. Check-in was hectic and a bit disappointing as our travel agents' request for having our group together did not happen.. Spouse is disabled, and depends on wheelchair having help close by is very important to us. Our group was scattered in different buildings. When brought to front desk attention, as stated on itinerary, no changes would be made as they said had no requests?( See photo) Which was disappointing, as well as the location we were placed building 15. Was challenging being so far from amenities. This is a very large resort, and most things are accessible. If you have mobility issues, recommend an electric chair and not your manual chair or worn gloves, and blisters are a guarantee. 🙄. The room was very spacious and accommoding with wheelchair. We enjoyed the buffet food but at times got very busy with long lines, making it somewhat difficult. We looked forward to seeing Gremil with his big welcoming smile and the kindness he provided. Thank you Gremil you will be fondly remembered. You are a wonderful person. We also enjoyed the Mexican and Blue water grill very much. Had wonderful service and fantastic meals. Took us a while to find the wheelchair accessible path to the beach, but so grateful for the inclusion. Unfortunately was a very far distance from our room. Although path was covered in sand from able body persons. Staff was sweeping clean, but unfortunately, it was covered again quickly. This resort is great for families, and there are many pools with water slides for all ages. We would not return due to the size and the lack of front desk accommodating our request, having our caregivers near for the support required. Making the holiday a challenge and not as enjoyable as it should have been for us.

    Sunscape CoCo January 17-23 2026

We just returned from an incredible week (Jan 17–24) at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana, and we are already wishing we were back! We stayed in Building 11, Room 1113, and the location was perfect—convenient to everything while still feeling like a true tropical getaway. The Beach & Pools The beaches here are breathtaking. The sand is white, the water is crystal clear, and heads up! People are early birds here about finding their spot to soak up the sun. When we weren't at the beach, we spent some time at the big pool. Lotsa fun energy and it’s the heart of the resort if you’re looking for a good time and great vibes. Dining Highlights The food exceeded our expectations! A few standouts: • The Teppanyaki Experience: Watching the chefs work their magic was as much a show as it was a meal. The food was fresh, flavorful, and a total highlight of our trip. • The Pizza: Seriously, don't miss the pizza! Oven baked….get there early! Wellness & Activities The entertainment team always has something going on! There’s Zumba on the beach, salsa, dance lessons, water polo, beach, volleyball and yoga. BomBom and the whole crew have great energy! Overall, the staff was incredibly friendly, the grounds were well-kept, and the relaxed atmosphere was exactly what we needed. Pro-tip: Building 11—has patio access that leads to river pool. Easy access to Bluewater Grille(Breakfast and dinner) the Snack Machine and easy access to the beach. A great home base!

    A lovely resort

First of all stop stressing about coming to this resort if already booked. I stressed for nothing, it’s fine. Check in on arrival was quick and easy, member of staff showed us to our room, room was spacious, finishing touches in bathroom area not done by a professional but not a problem to me. Floor could have done with a good mop but again, not a major problem. I think cleaners probably don’t have a load of time to clean each room on a daily basis. If you have a linked room then a noisy family, can be quite loud. Entertainment has been really good, shame everything finishes @11pm but I assume to do with rooms nearby. Poolside (main) is great, activities and performances throughout the day. Swim up bar is a nice addition. Didn’t feel pool was dirty like others have said. Resort is clean and gardens all attended to. If you smile at staff, they will smile at you. If they provide a service, serve or bring you a drink, give 100 pesos or 1 USD but not expected. Food is plentiful, buffets can be repetitive but break the week up by going to the other restaurants? I recommend sitting out side in the Windows buffet, better service. Coffee shop is great and the snack/BBQ offerings in the day all over the resort is good too. Drinks are always in little plastic cups so bring your own cooler cup. Though it’s advertised as a 4 star, I would say it’s more like a 3 star, more so for room finishing touches, plastic glasses day and night. Just seats to sit and watch entertainment and no table’s. I think Hyat have only just took over this resort so perhaps a little investment will take it to the next level but then price would go up.

    Lovely hotel , lovely staff

Lovely hotel, room was spacious and clean, cleaners were exceptional. Plenty of places to eat and drink, had to queue for some of the restaurant but a good system of allocating buzzers so you go and have a drink whilst waiting. Lovely coffee bars where you get a proper latte. Location spectacular, right on the beach. We struggled to get money out but went to the on site casino and they helped us with this. Lovely attentive staff, the server in the sports bar and Jimena in Coca 2 coffee bar we our favourites
