If have mobility issues this resort is not recommended sadly, great for families and able bodied persons.

Sunscapes Coco, The location is fantastic, short bus transfer to resort. Apon arrival we were greeted with a friendly staff member offering cold refreshing non alcoholic beverages which we appreciated after a long day of traveling. Checked was hectic , but after a long wait we were escorted to our room, which was disappointing. The room itself is spacious and comfortable. The disappointment came when our group was scattered all over ( we booked beginning of October to ensure we could be placed together, travel agent made requests as well. Spouse is disabled and in wheelchair, so having help is important to us. Our other huge disappointment and most infuriating was we are placed in building 15, very far at end of resort and far from amenities. Voiced our concerns to front desk and was told they had no requests regarding room and would not accommodate. Spouse is in wheelchair and a amputee. Common sense, would be to have some understanding that he should not be in a room so far away, . . No accommodations change which is so disappointing and a shame customer service is not understanding to persons with mobility issues. Due to this poor service I would not recommend this resort to persons with mobility disabilities. Shameful really. This resort is large and grounds are kept lovely. Rooms are dated but comfortable, mattress was comfortable without lumps or sagging. Buffets are large but again difficult to manage in a wheelchair. Food is fantastic, we have not a negative thing to say about any of our meals. We often had the same staff in dining buffet and Gremil was fantastic and always helpful with spouse. We looked forward to his big smile and welcoming personality. Thank you Gremil, you are an amazing human and your kindness was very appreciated, we are so grateful . This is a wonderful resort I am sure for able body persons and very family oriented. Lots of thing on site for children. Unfortunately could not use beach as not mats or path for wheelchair accessibility, which was so disappointing. Seems Sunscapes Coco is not worried about making things inclusive for everyone. Had it not been for the issues with no accommodating or understanding mobility issues we would have had a fantastic time. Hopefully this improves and front desk acknowledges their shortcoming and finds compassion for individual needs. Inclusion should not be so difficult.

Good price & travel experiences but average resort situation with food and amenities especially.

Don't have high expectations re: the food - except for Chopsticks (including the Teppanyaki) which was excellent - but impossible to get a reservation. Pools and beach are great but no enforcement of the posted rules of not saving chairs - often hard to find one. We purchased the Sun Club upon arrival in order to get an elevator as there was no ground level room anywhere else and I have mobility limitations. Cost us $70USD per day. Some features were appreciated - separate pool & buffet restaurant but the advertised "private concierge" was non-existent. Even with a separate Splashpark for kids and programs for them, there were MANY more young children than I expected.

Family Vacation That Failed to Deliver

We stayed at this resort for one week in January 2026 as a family. At first glance, the resort is large and visually beautiful, with white sand beaches, palm trees, and a village-style layout. Unfortunately, behind the scenery is a poorly managed mega-resort with a time-share operation that relies on misleading marketing, aggressive upselling, and inadequate staffing — especially for families. 1) NOT A FAMILY RESORT Despite being marketed as family-friendly, this resort felt like a party resort in disguise. Loud music at night regularly kept us awake, and several adult dance performances were overly sexual and inappropriate for families with young children. Most activities catered to a party crowd rather than families. 2) MISLEADING KIDS CLUB The kids club (advertised for ages 3–12) was the main reason we booked. What we found instead were scattered activities across the resort that were difficult to locate and required parents to stay. Indoor access to their childcare center required paying $25 USD per hour for babysitting — something never disclosed in advance. This was not a real kids club and offered parents no meaningful break. We felt misled from day one. 3) AGGRESSIVE UP-SELLING & CONSTANT SALES PRESSURE After waiting over two hours to check in on day 1, we were immediately pressured to upgrade our room. When we declined, we were assigned a room at the very back of the resort — a 20-minute walk from amenities and up three flights of stairs. With young children, this felt punitive. We ultimately felt forced to upgrade, paying about $400 CAD for the week. The promised “exclusive benefits” with the upgraded room — Bali beds, private bars, pools, and private beach access — but were all not exclusive at all. Everyone had access, and we had to repeatedly argue with staff just to receive the Bali beds we were promised. The sales pressure didn’t stop there. Throughout the resort, staff constantly approached us to sell spa packages, paid restaurant upgrades, and add-ons. On the beach, vendors interrupted us nonstop, making it nearly impossible to relax. Even on-site shops were outrageously priced (e.g., $25 USD for a child’s sand pail). It felt like a constant sales pitch rather than a vacation. 4) NOISE, CONSTRUCTIONS & SMOKE POLLUTION Even in the upgraded section, we were placed beside major ongoing renovations as the resort expands. Instead of ocean waves, our “private” beach time was dominated by construction noise. In addition, smoking is allowed throughout the resort, and the clientele smokes heavily. Rather than fresh air, we were frequently exposed to second-hand smoke — including around pools and beach areas. 4) OVERCROWDING & POOR STAFFING This is a massive mega-resort that can house roughly 2,500 guests, plus staff. The result is constant overcrowding and extremely long lineups for everything — dining, activities, and services. Restaurants were severely understaffed, leading to hour-long waits, slow service, repetitive and bland buffet food, and ignored maintenance issues (including a leaking roof over our table). FINAL VERDICT While this resort is cheap and may look beautiful, it fails where it matters most on your vacation. For families, it delivers misleading promises, aggressive up-selling, constant noise and smoke, overcrowding, and poor service. We came for a relaxing family vacation and the resort ended up ruining a good chunk of our vacation. Worth spending the extra money going somewhere else.
