    Family holiday

I visited this hotel and st kitts for the first time. There were 5 of us in total staying in 2 rooms, ages from 19years to 64 and I felt there was plenty to do for everyone. The hotel itself self was lovely and clean and the room also. Some people say it was dated but I’ve been to far worse. We ate in just 2 restaurants because the calypso was closed for refurbishment during our stay so we didn’t get to try any local cuisine which we were hoping for. The best food we ate was in the fire, the steak was delicious! The food through the day was also good, I would recommend the chicken wings, pizza and the cakes from the cafe bar. There wasn’t much entertainment during our stay but possibly because May is out of season. There wasn’t much staff was friendly especially Cassandra who worked on the front desk. Our son enjoyed an hour every night in the casino and also spent every morning in the gym. We played crazy golf but was very basic but something to do. Overall fab stay and would defo return.

Great first visit to St. Kitts; won't be the last!

The intro pic of the resort is exactly what you get! We had a great time on St. Kitts and at the Marriott Resort. The resort: We picked the perfect time to take our trip as far as crowds go! It was Easter weekend, so there wasn't a lot going on that week. Attendance at the resort was low, so there was no rushing to get pool/beach chairs. We ate at Calypso for breakfast every day. We just ate from the menu since we wouldn't eat enough from the buffet to make it worth it. The pastries and coffee from the Calypso Cafe outside the restaurant were great; especially the coconut tart!! The seafood restaurant was closed for renovations, so there was only the poolside beach restaurant open for lunch. Believe it or not, our favorite restaurant at the resort was the Arwee Sushi Bar. The sushi was fresh, and the service was outstanding by everyone at the bar and lounge! The resort is showing its age a bit. You can tell they've been updating it, but the rooms are a little tired (at least ours was). There wasn't anything "wrong" with our room (which was in the main building), just needs updating. The furniture on our balcony (and neighbor's) definitely needs to be changed out. My husband was afraid he'd fall through the one chair, it was literally coming apart. The beach was nice. There are vendors there offering the usual hair braiding, massages, and trinkets, but they didn't "hound" you if you said no. Being on the Atlantic side, the water was a bit more active than on the Caribbean side, but nothing that prevented being in the water; except the seaweed. There was definitely a lot of that! The resort did a good job trying to remove it every day. Again, nothing earth shattering. The service was great from all of the resort staff! Everyone there went out of their way to help with anything we needed! St Kitts & Nevis: Most venues were closed on Sunday and Monday in observance of Easter. so we didn't bother going off the resort. Tuesday was the last day of the season for cruise ships; 2 ships were in, but we could still walk around Port Zante and downtown with no problems. The reviews we read from other travelers were spot on about the Kittsians being so friendly and helpful! We felt safe outside the resort, and had no problems getting around. We hired a taxi (our first encounter with Mr. G) from Port Zante going to The Strip over on Frigate Bay. He recommended Boozy's for lunch, and came back and returned us to the resort. We ate at Serendipity Restaurant & Lounge Bar one night. It was delicious!!! Will definitely eat there again. Our waiter Shaquille was very knowledgeable and friendly. And Rock Lobster; There was so much delicious food, we could hardly finish. And, once again the service was outstanding! We didn't have any bad meals while we were in St. Kitts. We took the Explore Nevis tour from the resort. We had a great time with our tour guide Audi. She was wonderful explaining the history and culture of the island. We stopped at several historical locations, the hot springs, and saw the monkeys! We ate on the beach at Pinney's Beach. Didn't get the Killer Bee from Sunshine's Bar though... Does anyone really know the secret ingredients??? Getting taxis was no problem at all, and we felt safe in all of them. The drivers were very helpful when asked where to eat and see. There were 2 taxi drivers that stand out as our favorites, and we have already prepared them for our next visit. Johnson VIP Transport; He was one of the most friendly, respectful, helpful, and courteous taxi drivers! He will get you where you want to go safely and on time! Mr. G's Taxi Service aka "The Green Machine". He drives a green van that everyone seems to know. I can't say enough about Mr. G! We kind of adopted each other from the first ride he gave us! We hired him to take a private island tour. He literally took us around the entire island, making stops along the way. Since we weren't part of an organized tour, we had no time table to keep and could spend as much, or as little time at each location. He took us to a local eatery in Dieppe Bay called Coopers. It was a delicious meal with baked chicken, rice&greens, potato salad, green salad, and Mac & Cheese. You'll notice that most of the eateries are shacks with covered seating areas. These are the best! Mr. G made our trip that much more special!!! Thank you Mr. G!!! We will definitely be visiting St. Kitts again! Thank you to everyone who helped make our vacation great!!!

    Our trip to St Kitts!

Rory Francis taxi driver St Kitts Just got back to the USA staying a week at the Marriott in St Kitts. A couple of recommendations as follows: Best taxi driver - Rory France by leaps and bounds! Very honest and super human being!we used 3-5 different taxi drivers the first 2-4 days and the rest of our vacation we met and used Rory! He would drop us off for dinner and come back or wait will we ate at no extra charge. +1 (869) 665-5069 Marriott- Outstanding location with a great beach with free Cabana’s for guests. 2 super pools. Great restaurants on site led by Fire Steak house! Staff was so very patient and always upbeat. Restaurants- Tie for 1st place on the island for us was Spice Mill on the ocean and Marshall’s on the ocean. 3rd was Serendipity with great food and service near downtown. Ate at Boozie’s and our waitress was just ok and food was good. Ate at Rock Lobster and the staff was very attentive. The fish tacos were amazing! Italian restaurant at Marriott was excellent. We both ordered the lasagna which was delicious! Pool bar food was Grade A and really outstanding. The 2 beaches we went to off the property was Conkelshell and Carambola and both were HUGE disappointments! Why leave the best beach and free use of the Cabanas and great food at the pool bar delivered to your cabana! Both other beaches charge between 30-40 bucks for 2 chairs and umbrella. We did 2 excursions: Catamaran Snorkeling and lunch with 61 other people and was great but you will need a taxi to get there (Rory)! Did the Zipline and it also was great but not I no pick up service so you would need a taxi (Rory) Airport- took 1 hour and 30 minutes to go through security screening.

    Dated hotel but friendly service!

This is a dated hotel with timeshare units build on property. Everyone who works there is very friendly. The grounds, ambiance, and hotel rooms are a 2.5 out of 5 unless unless you are on level 5 and those would be a 3 out of 5 as they are larger suites with a living room and separate bedroom with 1.5 baths. Restaurants are average. If you’re with kids and like cruise ships, this would be a good place for you. There are three pools and hot tubs. Beach was nice however it’s on the ocean /windward side of the island so there is a lot of sargassum and the water is choppy. Compared to many other beachfront Marriotts unfortunately this hotel is well below average… I would compare it to a Wyndham. Everyone whom we interacted with working there was full of smiles however.

Great choice for a beach/pool centered vacation

We recently spent 5 nights at this resort. I have to admit that the hotel and the grounds look as good in real life as they do in the pictures. Hotel is located about a 15 minute drive from the Airport (the fare is $25 US and all taxies in St Kitts accept US dollars). After arriving at the hotel around 2 pm, we did have to wait about an hour before our room was ready. When we finally got to our room, we were impressed...the room is spacious, has a king size bed, a sofabed with a coffee table, a sitting chair with an Ottoman, a nice sized fridge, large screen tv, closet with a safe and some shelves, spacious bathroom with a large tub that you could take a soaking bath in, spacious vanity area. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The room does not have drawers but we were able to use the shelving unit in the closet as our drawer space. Room had a nice size balcony with 2 sitting chairs...one issue we had was that one of the chairs was broken so we only had one balcony chair to sit on. We had to report the issue to the front desk 3 times before they finally addressed it and replaced the chair on our 2nd night. TV was a bit disappointing as many of the channels had poor picture quality and/or sound quality. As far as the property is concerned, the grounds are very large and expansive. There are 3 swimming pools, the main pool (which was usually pretty busy) and the north and south pools (neither were busy at all and were a good choice if you wanted to sit poolside with peace and quiet). Only downside of the north and south pools is that it's a bit of a hike to the pool bar and restaurant. Both the north and south pools do have bathrooms. The beach is very large and wide....it was so spacious that it never felt crowded. There are numerous lounge chairs on the beach and many palapas.....finding a beach lounger with shade was not a problem during our stay....even if we showed up to the beach at 12 noon we still had no problem finding shady chairs. As other reviewers have mentioned, the water can be kind of rough and there is a lot of seaweed. I found that if you go to the left side of the beach, there was less seaweed and water was not as rough. Hotel has a fitness center that looked nice but we didn't have time to use it. While the drinks at the bars were good, food was a mixed bag. We had dinner at the Calypso buffet our first night. It was $30 something per person for a small selection of food choices, all of which were mediocre in quality. We also tried the Calypso breakfast buffet and also found that underwhelming....the hot breakfast at most Embassy Suite hotels has a larger spread than the Calypso breakfast buffet. The best food we had at this resort was the Pizza Shack by the main pool......the pizza was so good we had lunch there twice...it also appeared to be popular with other guests also. We did not try the Fire steakhouse or Cucina Italian restaurant as both restaurants were very expensive and the reviews we read were mixed about the quality. We also noticed that both restaurants were pretty empty at dinner time...not hard to understand why...there are several dinner options within 15 minutes walk from the hotel (Rock Lobster and Splash restaurant at Royal St Kitts both had excellent dinners and excellent service). There are also several breakfast options that are walkable from the hotel and you can get a reasonably priced tasty breakfast (Rituals Coffee offered an excellent breakfast). You can also take a short cab ride (or healthy walk) to the Strip where there about 10 or so beachside bar and grills to choose from for dinner. Hotel also has an onsite casino.....we played slots 4 nights and found the slots to be very tight...you can lose money quickly with these slot machines. One plus of the casino is that they have a Happy Hour every night from 6 pm to 8 pm where all drinks (including specialty cocktails) are half price...consequently we made a stop there each night to take advantage of the Happy Hour bargain. There are not a lot of high end hotels in St Kitts....Other than the Hyatt, this is probably the most high end resort on the island. While the food and drinks are pricey, the spacious well furnished room, along with the 3 large pools and the large beach with plenty of seating makes this an excellent resort for this type of vacation.
