Beautiful resort, noisy location
We’ve stayed at a lot of adult only all inclusives (mainly Secrets) and wouldn’t rank this one quite as high in terms of overall quality. If you get a good price though, it is definitely worth it. The environment, buildings, rooms were excellent but it doesn’t have the same degree of selection in food, nor is the food or service as good. It’s also located right by the airport so incredibly noisy but if you’re someone who loves airplanes, you might see that as a positive. The sunsets from the Sunset bar are excellent. The pool areas are also nice.
What a great holiday. Our room was perfect. The location of the resort is beautiful, especially from the Azul Restaurant and the Oceanpoint Pool on the cliff. My wife and I have been away to many all-inclusive resorts now and this has easily been the best with respect to food quality and the daily entertainment. We paid more than on other vacations and we got our money's worth. The Azul Restaurant was fantastic due to the high quality restaurant food and service and the amazing view off the cliff. Truly spectacular. The daily entertainment was also far superior from other resorts we have been to, with acoustic guitarists poolside, amazing singers at the Sunset Bar, the Casino Royale shows and the live bands on the stage nightly. Maho Beach is small and very angled, so difficult for walking. The airplanes taking off and landing right over the beach was a very neat experience. The resort isn't quiet due to the airport proximity, but we greatly enjoyed that experience too with being on the beach or in the water with the planes flying close overhead. Not our first choice for a beach experience, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
Sunsets at Sonesta
Just came back from Ocean point. Had a very positive experience. Staff was good, property was clean, food was excellent at most restaurants. Watching the sunset at the roof top bar is wonderful. This hotel is very close to the airport. This is a very noisy novelty. If you don't like the planes taking off and landing, you might want to look elsewhere. Planes stop flying at about 8 pm, and start back up again at 7 am.
Top notch staff, everyone went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one.
Everything about our stay was amazing. I can't say enough about the staff at the Sonesta Ocean Point hotel . Everyone we encountered always went above and beyond to make sure we had the best vacation. Our bartender's by the pool Ronisca and Camille were superb. They made sure our glasses were never empty and they did it all with a smile. We had dinner most nights at Azul. The view was outstanding but the staff was even better. Tammy, our main server, was simply the best. She learned our likes and dislikes, shared some island history and suggested things for us to try. She along with all of the Azul staff are really what make this resort special. Tammy, Shingai, Annie, Rhiana, Kay Ann, Notoya, Ralneha, Melicia and Shaneequa were all outstanding. Each and everyone of the staff went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing experience. We started the week as strangers but ended it as friends. I can’t say enough about how awesome the staff are at this resort, they are the ones that made our stay magical.
Trying to be a 5 Star
This resort is trying to become a 5 star but they have a long way to go. We stayed at SOP from February 25 through March 3. We traveled with another couple and we both purchased the Sunset Swim-Up Suite with Butler Service. First let me say that we are Sandals people and have stayed at the Sandals Grenada and Sandals Montego Bay. The resort is right next to the runway of the airport. We knew this going in. The airport is also right next to the two Sandals resorts that I previously mentioned. The ride from the airport by taxi took less than 5 minutes and was $4 per person. We were taken to the hotel where we were met and driven by golf cart to the SOP lobby. We were greeted with cold towels and rum punch and our two butlers Sanjeet and Dane. Dane asked us since we were traveling together would we only like one butler. Sanjeet took gave us a tour of the resort while taking us to our rooms. Our friends were given room 128 which is the corner room next to the Edge Pool beach. When we went into the room it had a musty oder and the balcony on one side has a wall for privacy from room 129 but the other side is open to the beach area at the Edge Pool. My friends were not happy and requested to be moved. Which the hotel accomadated by moving them up to room 330 for 3 nights and then would move them to room 331 for the rest of our trip. When my friend asked if she would be reimbursed for the diffenence in the room catagories, the hotel manager told her that they would not be reimbursed because "this is a you problem, not an our problem". Suffice it to say, my friend call corporate and things were sorted out. The entire week we were there, someone who was not staying in room 128 would always be sitting on the wall or steps in front of that room. SOP is the only all inclusive resort on St. Martin until the Secrets opens. They do offer butler service, and while Sanjeet did a terrific job and should be commended for his hard work, politeness and willingness to go the extra mile; but SOP should take a lesson from Sandals. Sanjeet's hours were different every day and while he wasn't on duty you did not have a butler. The day he was off, we were told one of the other butlers would be available, but no one was. At Sandals, the butlers have to shifts, 7:00 to 3:00 and 3:00 to 8:00. You are given two butlers, morning shift and afternoon shift, so that you have a butler available at all time. We were in room 130 which was wonderful. It was perfect for us because we would go to the beach in the morning and return at the end of the day to relax on our balcony with our friends and have drinks, a snack and enjoy the last rays of the day. The food in the restaurants was good. We have a couple of meals that were not exactly hot; but we managed. Kayanne at Azul was wonderful for breakfast. She always had a smile on her face and went the extra mile to get you what you wanted. Derrick the bar tender upstairs at the Sky Bar was excellent. He made good drinks, kept the crowd laughing and happy. He is a gem. If you don't like the sounds of jets landing and taking off; DON'T STAY HERE. We knew we were close, but we didn't expect the building to shake when the big jets took off. I think this hotel is trying to compete with Secrets and Sandals. I think they just need a little more time and they could be a great hotel.
