We will be back!
My family and I: husband (46), me (44), son (28) DIL (29), son (24), gf (22) found this resort to be a little slice of paradise! We have gone to Grand Sirenis in Mexico (with ULC benefits) for the last 2 years, so we hoped the same attention to detail would be found at Senator, and it was and more!! Since Senator is so much smaller, we came to know the staff at the ULC building by name and they knew us as well! Because of our personal concierge, Juan Nunez, our weeklong stay was fabulous! He contacted us a month before our trip for our information and paved the way for a week that was planned perfectly. He booked our requested restaurants each night, made spa appointments, saw us daily, and became a friend. We booked 4 swim-out rooms that faced the ocean (2 were facing the cruise port and the other 2 faced the beach). We LOVED these rooms because they were set up like a condo, minus a full kitchen (the room did have a coffee maker and microwave). The food was what we have come to expect from resorts (and cruises). It was fine and we never went hungry haha. Our favorite restaurant was Japanese (although it was sooo hot since they cook in front of you---take a personal fan) and our 2nd fav was the Steakhouse (filet was awesome). The coffee shop was such a nice place for an after-dinner treat, the pizza place was great for an afternoon snack, and my boys enjoyed the ice cream shop! We never got around to eating at the Sports Bar. We did eat in the main buffet for breakfast 1 morning, and ate on the deck facing the ocean---beautiful! The other days we ate breakfast and lunch at the ULC restaurant. It had a smaller buffet and a menu. The fresh salmon was amazing! The steak salad, chicken burrito, and hamburgers were also great! We do not drink alcohol, but we did enjoy pina coladas, Miami vices, and other daiquiris. We were also happy to learn that we could order water at meals (unlike in Mexico where it made us sick). They pour water from large water bottles and the ice is also brought to the resort inside bags. There were very few people at the resort, which was nice for us because nothing was crowded and there were no wait times; however, this did affect the daily activities such as cornhole, volleyball, etc. which my son and his gf would have enjoyed, but there was never enough interest among other guests. We only went to one nightly show (magic show) and it wasn't too good, so we chose to enjoy fellowship with each other on the other nights over coffee and ice cream beachside. We are already making plans to return next summer to a piece of paradise where time slows down, a breeze is constant, and we want for nothing.

Monkey
The worker “Monkey” was such a blast to be around. He was an extremely fun and friendly guy. He made our stay super enjoyable. Sense of humor and kindness from all staff. Very clean pools and beaches. Tons of space to relax, nothing too loud. Events for all sorts of people.

Be prepared for disappointment then you'll be ok!
Not a bad resort but be prepared for a disappointment. We were here for two weeks and after the first week and very much hassle to book the a la carte restaurant. On Sunday of our first week we were told we cannot book anything for the second week. WHAT! all week they told us to come back Sunday to book the restaurant. Then they told us they have nothing as there all closed untill the Friday we leave. This is why we quit going to Cuba, oh well astala vistas DR. LOOKS LIKE WE WELCOME MEXICO LOTS OF CONFUSED STAFF AND NO MANAGEMENT PRESENT. WOULD I COME BACK NO. SHOULD YOU RISK IT NO. They have to tighten up their game it's like going to a carnival with no rides and one hot dog. Bla hustala Vista baby.

Senator hotel
This hotel is to relax, so if you're looking to party, this is not it. Rooms were ok except the bathtub....bathtub is very narrow, not ideal for someone who's on the heavy side. Pools were great. There were always chairs available unless you wanted a specific spot, then you'll have to get up early to save that spot. Food was ok. They had a variety every day. Sports bar is open 24 hrs where they serve burgers, hotdogs, chicken wings, etc. Beach is ok, very calm waters no seaweed in sight. The only action is when the locals come and the show kinda caters towards them. You'll notice the difference in pools/buffet/theater when the locals are there versus when it's only tourists.

Poor experience senator puerto plata
Been here a week. Here for 1 more. First day noticed the a/c not blowing hardly at all. Went down that evening to talk to reception. They sent someone over he looked in the ceiling said couldn’t see anything and was going to look from outside. Nothing changed and he never came back. Next day back to reception and they sent someone else. It’s been livable but not cold. I’m on the first floor and last night water starts running out of my light above vanity in bathroom. Back to reception he was more interested in his plate of food under the counter and said he’d have someone come look in the morning and have the maid bring all new towels because I used them all drying my stuff and stopping water from running off vanity and all over the floor. I said you want me to wait until morning with water running through a light with electricity. Oh ok I’ll send someone right over. That was at 1am I stayed up until 4am and nobody ever showed. Went down again today she seemed quite concerned but yet again nobody has shown up to look at it. The maid who he was supposed to have come first thing in the morning with clean towels didn’t show up until noon. Tonight in buffet I sat for five minutes waiting for someone to bring water and ask if I’d like something to drink. Nope but he sure rushed over to help the table of 4 ladies that sat at table beside me. So I got up walked to waiters station and poured my own water. He just came over and topped up their waters and walked right by me and nothing. I don’t normally complain but first time in puerto plata and probably won’t come back
