Great vacation, the LOCATION makes this place!! This resort has a lot of potential!
We have travelled to many all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico over the past 30+ years. We are realists and understand that every resort has its pros and cons and no resort is perfect. Here is our honest review of our stay: Location - This is what we LOVED most about this resort. With the mountains as a beautiful backdrop, the surroundings were lush and green and the grounds were very well maintained. The location couldn't be better, with the cruise ships coming in so close to the resort, it was truly magnificent. The little beach on the other side of the resort where the cruise ships come in was the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The lagoon near the Coco Limon restaurant behind the resort with all of the beautiful birds was spectacular!! Although there isn't much to do outside of the resort, we did take a taxi into Puerto Plata for a day and felt very safe walking around on our own. We also did the excursion to Paradise Island ... it was a long, long bus ride, but an enjoyable day overall. The beach - the beach is massive, with lots of trees for shade. There was never a shortage of sun, shade or loungers and you didn't feel like you were on top of anybody else. The ocean was very swimmable. Although others noted that water shoes were required, we did not find it necessary at all. Food/beverage options - the food was average AI resort food. There was always plenty of variety at the buffet. We tried the steak house and the Italian restaurant and they were both AMAZING!! For snacks, the little street between Senator and Play Bachata was an added bonus with pizza, ice cream and a wonderful little coffee shop. The food at the snack bar near the beach was just okay and so was the sports bar. The drinks varied from bar to bar and were typical resort drinks. The Spanish coffee from the sports bar in the mornings is a MUST!! We didn't try any of the restaurants at Play Bachata, so can't comment on that. Rooms - we didn't upgrade to a luxury room, so our standard room was definitely very dated, especially the bathroom. We don't spend much time in our room, so this wasn't a big deal for us. The room was spotless every day and the bed was super comfortable. The A/C worked well and the room was quiet. Our mini fridge quit working on the second or third day and it took two trips to the front desk to get it replaced, but again, not a big deal. Staff - all of the staff were very friendly and the service was great. There were times in the buffet when it was very busy that we felt they didn't have enough staff, but they were very attentive and tried their best to keep up. For us, there were only two negatives at this resort -- there wasn't a "quiet" pool. All of the pools are grouped closely together, so no matter where you sat, you had to listen to the music and entertainment crew all day (who did a fantastic job, by the way). We only spent one day by the pool, so again, not a big deal for us. The other negative was the constant sales pitches from the Ultimate Leisure Club staff. They were friendly enough and quite helpful, but it did get a bit repetitive. Overall, I think this resort could be amazing. They have a long way to go with their updates, but the updates they have done so far are beautiful. We would definitely return, but not right away because there are so many other places to go!

4.5 Stars
We just got back with a group of 5 adults from Canada on February 7th, 2026. The location is good. Perhaps a little further than the rest of the resorts, but took us about 40 minutes to arrive from the airport and wasn’t a big deal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean with no issues regarding hot shower water. Good water pressure too! Our beds were fine and comfortable along with good air conditioning in the room. The grounds are kept clean, with staff cleaning every morning, the pool, the grounds and throughout the day. Enjoyed the food, the buffet, the steak house and the Japanese restaurant. The grill and bar near the main pool was a favourite to eat at for lunch. Swim up bar was excellent. Not too deep, bar tenders were excellent and attentive with some upbeat music playing at 10:00am every morning to indicate its celebration time! Yes, get your chairs early in the morning around the pool, and there were a lot chairs with umbrellas to have some shade when needed. I would definitely go back again, year after year, as my wife and I are looking for Caribbean destinations to stay for multiple weeks when we decide to retire during the winter months. The staff were friendly and we try to speak a little Spanish and have been doing so for the last few years. Always trying to add additional vocabulary year after year. Great value and will be back!

Great but can even be better if...
This is a great resort with amazing staff but some important details are missed which could make the resort so much better. We got the the luxury junior suit which was a nice room: Pros: - Great, friendly and helpful staff overall - Great cleaning staff (Maria was amazing servicing our room at 247) - Great food - Great pool area - 24 hour sports bar with food and drinks - Great beach and lots of chairs at the beach Cons: - No hooks for hanging towels even in this newly renovated room, which is very odd. - No lighted make up mirror which at this level is expected. - No luggage stand which should be pretty much standard, we had to put our luggage on the floor. - Low hot water pressure for the shower - Very minimum drink service at the beach, you pretty much have to walk all the way to the bar yourself to get a drink - Not enough toasters in the buffet restaurant, resulting in long lines to toast your bread in the morning. This resort is great but can be so much better if they pay attention and look into fixing the issues that I mentioned above.
