Stunning Wedding Venue, Budget Beware!
Our wedding of 56 guests at Secrets Playa Mujeres was an overall fantastic experience, creating unforgettable memories for us and our loved ones. The resort's grounds are undeniably beautiful, meticulously maintained, and provided a picturesque backdrop for our celebration. The service throughout the wedding and reception was top-notch; every team member we encountered was attentive, professional, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring our special day was perfect. Our guests raved about the memorable time they had, and we couldn't agree more. However, planning a wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres requires a significant degree of financial flexibility and patience. Be aware that communication regarding detailed wedding plans doesn't truly begin until approximately three months prior to the event. The initial wedding packages presented are essentially starting points. Expect a comprehensive spreadsheet detailing numerous add-on items to arrive at the three-month mark, which, in our case, tripled our initial budget. We did not add anything extraordinary, simple flowers, photographer, DJ, and very simple reception decorations. All add ons have a 15% service fee and a 16% tax. This late reveal can be stressful, especially since most guests have likely booked their accommodations by this point. The resort's layout, while expansive and offering a variety of specialty restaurants, necessitates the use of golf carts for transportation. While readily available, this can be slightly inconvenient for those preferring to walk. Despite the budget surprises and logistical considerations, the beauty of the venue, the exceptional service, and the overall experience made our wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres truly magical. We would highly recommend this resort for both weddings and vacations, but strongly advise future couples to be prepared for a substantial increase in their initial budget estimates and to proactively seek detailed information early in the planning process.

Beautiful beach
Great week at Secrets. Pros- amazing beach, excellent food and service, pool and beach convenient to rooms. Staff always smiling and helpful. Thankyou to Brayan, Sebastian, Alexandre and all the hardworking entertainment and pool bar teams. Very clean resort and beautiful landscape. No cons only Recommendations- more chairs and umbrellas at the beach, way too noisy at pool in afternoon- (many resorts have separate quiet and noisy pools), need a bigger common area at night with seating and light music- expand the Rendezvous area, theatre shows were either too late or cancelled- didn't get to see one, better signage to restaurants, etc., replace outdoor chair pads, room upgrades- which we know are already scheduled, provide pickleball paddles/ balls. We had a lovely time and would recommend this hotel.

Run-down and overpriced
This hotel is old & run down. I was electrocuted by the wall-mounted light mirror. The pillows are thick & lumpy. Our "king" room was 3 twin beds pushed together with cushions covering the seams. The food was below average. Not worth $400/day.

Waste of money
The service was terrible. For a high rated resort I expected better. We have traveled to Mexico multiple times and have traveled many other places as well. This was by far the worst one I’ve been to. The grounds and rooms were great and beautiful! But the service was the worst I’ve had. We couldn’t get into a restaurant unless we wanted to throw some cash at the host. There was always a wait and/or just “full”. Out of a 6 day stay we ate at a restaurant twice! And both times gave them cash to scoot us in. We were told the last night there that if we wanted a table to the hibachi grill we could pay $500. We obviously did nit, but we did pay $30 to get in and eat at normal table after a 30 minute wait. All but one hibachi room was open. And there were multiple tables available inside but lots of people waiting. I was shocked. If it was full, why ask for money to get a table that was clearly available. My only hope was they were just short staffed. But the payment to get in is unreal. Especially after paying so much for the stay. Not to mention a wedding. We had our wedding on this trip. I had multiple family/friends join us. We spent money on the trip alone, but add the wedding fee and I really expected this to be nothing but amazing! The treatment we got felt as if we were an annoyance. I know having a wedding shouldn’t change the treatment, but goodness once there I was in literal shock of how they really didn’t care nor even know. The wedding planner communication was not any better. Again. The decor and parties were great, but I feel I could’ve had the wedding and a vacation elsewhere with way better service for probably much cheaper. It’s almost been a month and I’m still so disappointed in this resort. I’ve told multiple people plus our travel agent. Do not recommend this place! There are other places to go that are just as beautiful!

Wonderful week with friends!
The rooms are very dated and in need of repair hence the big renovation in April. We paid a lot more for a swim out room and the pool was so tiny and ice cold. We didn’t even use it. Best part of this resort is hands down .. the ocean!! Big waves, white powdery sand, no sargassum, absolute perfection!! Unfortunately, they do not offer enough lounge chairs on the beach. Only a select few people who get up at 6am to grab them, will have chairs. Very unfortunate as it’s such an easy fix. Tons of room, I don’t understand it, buy more!! Food was fantastic. We went to most of the restaurants. Incredible food! Staff work so hard at this resort, there’s nothing they won’t do for you! Tipping well definitely helps. It’s very close to the airport, maybe 40 mins through the city. Check in was so easy with drinks waiting upon arrival. Watch out for TimeShare guy Chris after you check in. They will offer you $280 resort money if you view the new Dreams resort rooms and listen to their sales pitch. It takes 2 hours and you have to give a very firm NO in order to get out of there! The $280 can be spent at the gift stores, golf, spa etc. I thought it was worth it to get the resort money, as golf was insanely expensive! We used all the resort money on golf, and then some! After dinner it was kind of boring. The disco music after 11pm will kill your ears if you are over 30. It’s really for the 20 year olds. There’s nothing much for an older crowd after 11pm. The resort is very hidden in tropical bush. You can’t see where everything is. A golf cart takes you to the sports bar, disco, restaurants, main lobby etc. Its lush and beautiful! I would not go back to this resort, nor pay that kind of money again. I’ve been to many great resorts that offer the same for a lot less. Even so, we had an absolutely GREAT week because it’s all about the people that you go with, really.
