We loved our stay at Secrets! Even though it seemed like the world was falling down around us (COVID-19) the staff at Secrets was helpful, friendly and had hand sanitizer everywhere! I would highly recommend Secrets Papagayo- it was a truly romantic and special time away. We will be going back!! Shout out to JJ for making us feel right at home on the first day!!
Dont be fooled by 4.5 Star Rating- It is Not Worth the Price/Do not attend Unlimited Vacation Club Presentation
This resort is beautiful and well maintained. However, do not be fooled. The food is below average and the alcoholic beverages are low grade. The all inclusive package only includes bottom shelf wines. Anything above their house red and white wine is an extra charge. They only offer Imperial beer and that's it. Also note that they advertise "Room Service" is included in the all inclusive package. However, the room service menu is completely different from the restaurants menus and you cannot order room service from the specific restaurant menus. Finally, we were lied to about the Secret's Unlimited Vacation Club presentation. This is similar to a "time share presentation" that the hotel gets guests to sign up for when they first arrive. We were told by "Frank" that we would be given a couples massage f and an additional $400 credit at the spa if we attended the Vacation Club presentation. Later this ended up being false. We did not receive the credits and were told it was our fault. After complaining to management, we were told there was nothing they could do to make it right. Never in all our years of traveling, has a hotel been so rude and failed to make their mistake right. We will never give this hotel chain our business again. I have shared our experience with friends and family and hope this review helps those considering this hotel.
The best part was the great staff attitude and they bent over backwards to help you and attend to your needs.
We spent the first week in the 130's room and it was great but at times a bit noisy. Certainly within walking distance to all the major amenities. The next week we spent in the Honeymoon Suite which was much quieter and more to our liking. Any of the rooms close to Aqua would be the quietest. Walking via the beach we were well within walking distance of major amenities. The food was excellent and our favorite was The Seaside Grill. Johnny there runs a great restaurant and we had many very enjoyable meals there. The Italian restaurant was our second favorite. The buffet restaurant was fantastic for breakfast but we didn't care for it for supper. The Japanese restaurant was good and we tried the teppanyaki grill and didn't really care for it. Eli the shuttle driver was excellent and Katherine in Housekeeping did a great job. I want to mention off property Tours. We went with a fishing trip arranged through Swiss travel. We didn't catch anything but had a great time and the crew really tried hard and even gave us extra time. We also went to Dimante Eco Adventure Park but it turned out to be more of a Zoo and it wasn't great. We then met a man on the beach that was offering guided tours. This was the best thing yet! Herson Segura of Spanglish Tours gets our top notch rating. We went on a Tour of a Cacao Plantation which had all kinds of different plants, fruit, sugar cane and taste testing everything. Combined with it we went on a tour to see Sloths, butterflies, lizards, frogs...you name it. Herson on another day took us to a working Ranch where we did horseback riding, white water tubing and zip lining. They had a lunch buffet that was as good as our Hotel food. Herson of course guided us through from each activity and was fantastic. He also gave us the history on the Ranch, took us on a tour of Liberia and explained the history which was amazing. We really recommend you get in touch with Herson and do private tours rather than the big bus one's. We'll definitely be back to Secrets!!
First trip to Costa Rica and to a Secrets Resort and both impressed well beyond our expectations! The hotel offers a luxury paradise getaway in beautiful surroundings, we had a bungalow suite with a tropical view, yet as we were set back higher into the forest could also partially see out to sea across the bay! The setting of this hotel makes it extra special on our stroll to breakfast we often saw an abundance of wildlife from tropical birds to Monkeys & lizards. We did several trips with the hotel including kayaking and the sunset hike both were really good! The rooms are impeccably presented and have everything you’d want, the room service you can order via the in room tablet was also delicious and always delivered promptly with a smile. With respect to dining we tried all the restaurants and loved them all. This trip was a special occasion for my wife’s Birthday and the hotel went above and beyond to make this extra special for her, not only delivering a cake to the room yet also arranging a private 5 course evening meal on the beach for us, a special mention must go to our waiter that evening Ricardo and the head waiter Jonny who made it such an incredible evening! Overall an amazing resort made exceptional by the incredibly attentive and friendly staff.
you can either go "crazy" or "calm" - This resort has two sections where one has the swim-up bar and all the daily activities are hosted by the "fun staff" or.... retreat yourself to the other side of the resort where you can calmly read a book or isolate yourself.
