Underwhelming all-inclusive with ok amenities - will not return

My wife and I took a 5 day/4 night vacation at this resort, where we had never stayed before. My baseline for the experience was prior stays at Villa Palmar (just north of Cancun in Playa Mujeres). Overall, I found this property disappointing. Check-in was fine, although there was only one employee doing check-ins, while there were several employees doing nothing who were assigned to the sales desk (the ones who try to sell you time shares). We stayed in an ocean-view room with a king bed - we did not upgrade to Preferred. Our room itself was huge, plenty of space to be sure, though poorly laid out. One thing to note is there was no dresser. There was a closet with hangers that we made use of, which also had open cubbies that we used in lieu of drawers. The room came equipped with a stocked mini-fridge, room safe, hair dryer, and coffee maker. There was a smallish (32"?) flat-screen TV awkwardly mounted to the wall sort of kitty-corner to the bed. No art on the walls. The whole thing just felt a little shabby. The overall quality of the room seemed kind of dated and drab. In the bathroom, the shower gave hot water, but it would kind of fade in and out while we were showering. The door to the separate WC would rub against the floor, making it difficult to open and close. The AC was decent though by night 4 and day 5 it was putting out a pretty strong sulfur smell. We were checking out that day, so I notified the staff but I'm not sure if they remedied it. Housekeeping service was reliable, if a little inattentive. My worst complaint about the room is that despite having a very heavy glass sliding door to the balcony, I could still easily hear the resort's music playing in the pool area. Fortunately they shut down the music at 6pm nightly, but I wouldn't have been able to relax in my room had I wanted to take a nap. One night there was a wedding on the beach and the music from the DJ was so loud we had a hard time watching TV in our room - that went until 11pm. Huge caveat if you're a beach person (which we are): the beach is super rocky. If you're going to enjoy the ocean, bring water shoes or you will tear your feet up (as I did). There is a more sandy section with a sign showing the water access, but even this area is a bit rocky - just not entirely so. The pool is lovely (if shallow). People use towels to "reserve" the limited number of poolside lounge chairs quite early in the morning, so be forewarned. The water sports shack had snorkel equipment available, but no other standard amenities (SUP boards, ocean kayaks, Sunfish or Hobie boats). The food was fine, nothing to write home about. The "sushi" restaurant had a tuna roll and a salmon roll and literally no other sushi. The food at the other specialty restaurants was likewise fine but unimpressive. The buffet was also fine, just not very exciting. Overall the staff was friendly enough, but our overall impression is that the property was dated. Kind of surprised this is a Hyatt property - it felt more like a Ramada. We may return to Cozumel, but definitely not at this property.

    Lovely and unpretentious

We were very pleasantly surprised after reading negative reviews. It wasn't super luxurious, it was comfortable and friendly which is for the best in my book.

    Amazing Birthday/Anniversary Trip!

I previously visited this resort years ago and decided to plan a trip back for a special occasion. I was a bit hesitant based on several recent reviews that been really negative but decided to book anyways. I'm really glad I did because it was a really great trip! We booked a preferred King Suite Ocean view and it was wonderful. People are bashing the condition of the resort but if you know anything about weather or the elements it is mostly ALL outdoor and its on an island. Of course the elements are going to get to things and wear them down but it wasn't anything crazy. It is still a beautiful resort. The staff EVERYWHERE were great. We never had issues and there were 3 couples in total in our group. Food was great at all the restaurants we ate at. People complain about the portions but that's stupid because you can order as much as you want and the portions are NORMAL sized meals so you can enjoy the apps, entree and desert options. Servers were always great! Pools were great. Preferred option is great because you have access to a lounge you can go in anytime and they always had snacks and food options out and we loved getting our drinks from the bar in there. There was no sales pitches or pressure from anyone there to do anything. Water was hot for the shower and room was cleaned da daily. Check in process was easy and friendly. We were always respectful to the staff and they were back as well. I think when some people book vacations they expect above and beyond but you aren't the only guests that are being taken care of. People were complaining that were was a wait to eat but what do you expect when staying at a popular resort and you go to dinner when everyone else is. Get a snack and go later when it's not as busy. When we asked for anything we had no trouble getting it. Honestly we had a wonderful time and felt very taken care of. Little things don't bother us as we understand things happen and people are human.Don't let the picky reviews tear you away. It was wonderful to have an adults only option and if you want a great and beautiful getaway then book this resort. If you want to stay up all night and party go to Cancun or a party area. If you want to be in AC all day and waited on hand and foot and be treated like you are the only guest stay somewhere indoor with a private butler like Las Vegas. Would recommend to anyone and will come back for sure! Thank you again to all of the staff for making it a fantastic vacation!

    Nice, Adult/couple friendly.

Be prepared with your receipts. We had to go back to the check in desk multiple times to finally get our preferred card(if you purchase it) and they were rude about it despite it being their mistake. Despite rudeness from a few of the check in staff the overall experience was very nice and other staff were very friendly, the facilities were clean, food was good and options were nice. I would probably return.

    Best Diving Vacation

Secrets is a great balance of morning dives followed by peaceful afternoons under a palm tree or pool side sipping cold beverages. Plenty of food options for every taste bud with helpful staff responsive to your requests. Many times, staff remembered your choices from previous days and recommended similar food or drink options. Great vacation overall.
