The perfect place to relax and unwind

We visit this resort annually and love everything about it. The property itself is located on 1500 private acres and includes numerous restaurants, a golf course, tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, beaches, swimming pools and access to a range of water sports. The casual elegance of the decor and interior design make a perfect fit for the stunning scenery. Crystal clear, blue-green seas, beautiful landscaped grounds and bright, sunny skies make for a perfect vacation. The sea is like bath water, the weather is always warm, and trade wind breezes keep things comfortable. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, each with a lovely veranda or balcony. Staff members provide excellent service and are always friendly, gracious, helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. A range of restaurants offers delicious menus and provides both casual and more formal dining options. We never tire of sitting on our balcony, listening to the sound of tropical birds and watching the sun set. We are especially fond of having dinner outside, under the stars, as well as reading a book while relaxing in a hammock surrounded by a field of swaying palm trees. There is an excellent fitness center with beautiful views of the sea, offering a wide variety of equipment. The Atabei Spa has a wonderful range of treatments in a tranquil environment. The lobby provides incredible views of the ocean that make you feel peaceful the moment you arrive. If you are looking to get away from it all, to unplug, unwind and to relax, this resort is perfect. We've been coming here for the past 7 years- I call it my happy place and always feel joyful when I am at staying at my 'home away from home.'

    Honeymoon hijacked

We booked 4 nights in a beautiful, expensive suite with uninterrupted ocean views. Two of those nights were wasted because the hotel booked large events on the beach outside with live bands, djs and fireworks going until 1-2am. The manager was very nice and comped is a day trip to Klein Curaçao to make up for our trouble. However, when we got our bill and I remembered that we were spending almost $1,000/night for a room filled with the noise of two 300-person parties, I felt like we’d chosen badly for that part of our honeymoon. It wasn’t romantic and we don’t have great memories because of the hotel really being an outdoor event space. Our room in Willemstad wasn’t as beautiful but was quiet and a one-third the cost with a great beach pool.

    Karen and Bob

We spent a wonderful week at this lovely resort. The food was fabulous especially at the Shore restaurant in a very romantic setting. We also found the breakfast buffet to be varied and interesting with lots to choose. Our room was always clean and very comfortable. The golf course is spectacular. No where else can you go from the ocean to the desert in an old rock quarry and then to a marina area. The holes were breathtaking and while challenging very enjoyable. The beach was lovely. We were kept refreshed by Jaymy with his interesting assortment of drinks. While we have come back home to a pandemic we have wonderful memories to keep us going through these trying times.

Beautiful location, great beach, very good food

My husband and I spent a week at Santa Barbara Resort on an all-inclusive plan, which we were very glad about as food and drinks are really expensive. We were there just when the Coronavirus was starting to become a pandemic so many people had cancelled their reservations and the hotel was quiet. In the last few days one by one the restaurants were closed and only takeout from the main restaurant was offered. The staff had to deal with a challenging situation and were nice about it. Even before that however we felt that some things were great but there was room for improvement and overall it isn't a 5-star resort. The Positives: - long beach with powdery white sand on an enclosed lagoon next to the marina - Great service for drinks and food on the beach (thank you, Jaymey!) - Lots of palm trees and flowering bushes like an oasis in the desert because Curacao is a very dry island; Very clean grounds - The Shore restaurant has beautiful views, especially at sunset, lovely decor; excellent food (I ordered the seafood curry twice as it was so delicious) - The Medi - very good food at the breakfast buffet and for dinner (especially the flank steak with red wine sauce and the spaghetti with clams) - Sushi on the terrace of the Great Room; excellent service too - Two swimming pools side by side in the pool area so there was no defined kiddie pool. Kids were screaming and splashing in both pools. There were no poolside activities and loud music like at most resorts. - Lots of beach chairs at the pool and on the beach so there was no rush to claim a spot in the morning like at most resorts - Shuttle to Willemstad but you must buy tickets the day before - definitely worth going to the town for a day! At night you would need to take a taxi. - Generally the hotel was very quiet and great for sleeping but that week it wasn't full so perhaps that isn't the case during crowded holidays - Decent fitness centre with view (we didn't use the spa and cannot comment) The Negatives: Check-in - we had booked a Partial Oceanview room and didn't expect a full ocean view but when we saw the room there wasn't even a small glimpse of the ocean, just a wall and palm trees; they were very decent about allowing us to choose between 2 other rooms when we spoke to the supervisor. Luckily the hotel wasn't too full or perhaps we wouldn't have had a choice however. At check-in make sure you get what you paid for! Also at check-in we weren't told what was and what wasn't included. We assumed all-inclusive but found out that the pizza and gelati were not; and got a fright when we saw our daily bill on the TV that also charged us for Premium drinks ($18US). When you check in, make sure you are informed about any extras Pizza and Gelato Cafe - was not included in the all-inclusive plan which we felt was wrong. There weren't many options for lunch if you didn't like burgers or other fried foods at Burgers and Beer on the beach or Splash (very salty fish tacos) The room - nice but nothing special; we were on the ground floor with an outdoor patio close to everything The bathroom - definitely not 5 star. A single sink, deep bath tub that would be very challenging for anyone who is elderly or under 5'4" to step out of; no rain shower Service - some staff were welcoming and smiley whereas others didn't go out of their way Eating breakfast outside on the terrace at Medi involves many birds, which we loved watching. You can't leave a plate of food on the table however to grab something you forgot at the buffet. If you don't enjoy birds make sure to get a table inside! Entertainment - there's not much in the way of entertainment other than occasional musicians at the restaurants. If you're looking for a party atmosphere, this is not the resort for you but it is perfect for golfers! If you're not on an all-inclusive plan this resort is very expensive and you may feel it's overpriced.

    “Over the top!”

We spent 8 nights at this magnificent resort! The staff is warm and welcoming, the grounds are magnificent. Our room was spacious with luxury amenities. The pool area allowed lots of sunbathers and a splash area for kids. The actual coastline was not swimmable - not a beach and way too rough. They have a very calm beach around the property with a protective wall on their waterway canal. Because the resort is so distant from other local amenities, you have to do all-inclusive. If you “pay as you go”, costs would rise very quickly.
