  New Asana restauran is our favourite

  The new Asana Hindu is definitely worth a visit! We are repeat guests at Playacar over the past 10 years or more, and we love this new restaurant. We ate there four (maybe five) times during our December visit. I loved the Chicken Korma (a favourite) but also tried the Vegetable Korma and the Dhansak Curry. The large well-described menu has something for everyone, including many vegetarian dishes. Some items are spicey, some are not. I would describe the food as flavourful. The hot Tandoori appetizers were gorgeous and sizzling from the oven. There is a small children's menu (as for all Playacar restaurants). The food is fresh and well presented. The servers and manager Karla gave excellent service and are knowledgeable about the their dishes. Chef Kasher Singh Negi was present and greeted his guests without being intrusive. The restaurant itself (was the Asiana) has been given a decor refresh and is cheerful and comfortable. Well done Asana team! I wish I was dining there as I write this.   Fantastic holiday!

  Rooms - odd bit of mould, can be forgiven in a tropical climate - Comfortable and massive beds, slept soundly - Good aircon and wifi - Only 2 plug sockets - No bedside lights!!!!! Had to have the glaring ceiling lights on or nothing at all - Fridge isn’t great nor restocked correctly at any point - Not sure how I feel about security, we kept our valuables locked in a bag with a padlock. Items from the fridge went missing, such as a Heineken can Food - both of us ate everything and anything without any illness (saw the occasional under cooked meat so just be mindful) - breakfast at the beach restaurant (select adults only) was calm and peaceful. Fresh omelettes and fried eggs etc. - main buffet is chaos and food is lukewarm but pretty decent selection - Recommend the burrito place for the best and freshest food on site - Cupcake coffee place for the best coffee and cake - Platinum bar (select adults) was a great place for snacks, different selection of drinks and had air con for evenings - We tried all the restaurants we could. Wouldn’t bother with any of them expect the Italian. Nice to get away from the main buffet but that’s about it. If you don’t buy wine they serve you so quickly that you’ve finished your entire meal within 30 mins Pools - Spent most of our time at the beach as the pools had insufferable music all day everyday (too loud to listen to earphones) - Select adults only pool had a leak so wasn’t full the whole 2 weeks - Pools could be cleaner - Enough sunbeds to go around Beach -plenty of sunbeds - Free kayaks - Clean and well maintained by staff - Lifeguards - Don’t need water shoes as no rocks - Local sellers would move on if you politely declined Staff - took ages to check in, approx an hour and that wasn’t a large queue - Very friendly and welcoming staff Excursions/ recommendations - recommend Scuba Libre on site - recommend Phantom Divers in Playa del carmen - recommend getting the bikes from the hotel and cycling round Playacar, we left ours at the security gates whilst we went into town for hours and they were still there - decent gym on site and padle/ tennis - mini golf course on site Entertainment - all pretty decent evening shows - marichi band is a must see Overall had a great time and probably would return if we were that way inclined. Would recommend going as Adult Select if possible, made the entire time a lot more relaxing. Recommendations for the hotel - get some bedside lights in the adults only rooms! - maybe don’t play music until the afternoons at the poolside, leave the mornings for relaxing - stop advertising royal elite club on paper notes on everyone’s doors every morning, bad for the environment - Speed up check-in process

  Best massage!!!!

  Isabell at the spa gives the best massages in Mexico!!!!!!!! I recommend you go and see her on your trip to Sandos. I will be back to see her again soon!

  Horrible.

  Horrible rooms, our room fell apart while we were in it. toilet stopped flushing. leaks from the roof. shower roof fell in on itself. our hexienda hot tub was cold and when it got fixed it was disgusting, pool was disgusting cleaning people didn’t do a good job. all around horrible

  Avenue Bar

  José and Miriam made our family vacation in Mexico truly unforgettable during our time at the Avenue Bar. From the very first visit, they welcomed us with genuine warmth and professionalism that instantly made us feel comfortable and at home. They both went above and beyond what you’d expect from bartenders, remembering our names, our favorite drinks, and even checking in to see how our day had been. José’s cocktail skills were outstanding — every drink was perfectly balanced, creative, and consistently delicious. He was always happy to recommend something new and tailored his suggestions to each person’s taste, which made the experience feel personal and special. Miriam matched that energy with her friendly personality, efficiency, and attention to detail. She handled busy moments with ease and never let the quality of service slip, even when the bar was full. What really stood out was how well they worked as a team. Their positive attitude, sense of humor, and genuine care for their guests created a fun, relaxed atmosphere that our entire family enjoyed. The Avenue Bar wouldn’t have been the same without them. José and Miriam are true assets to the bar, and we would absolutely return just for their service alone. Highly recommended! 🍹
