  Family Fun

  Diamond Club is a must! Our butler, Ernesto, was fantastic and on top of everything! He was very professional and any request we had was handled within an hour. He had my in-laws room decorated with red and white balloons and rose petals in the shape of a heart on their bed - it was their 50th wedding anniversary. At dinner he had a cake sent, which was delicious, and the staff sang to them! If we ever go back we are requesting him for sure! The food was meh. 14 of the 18 of us had some sort of stomach bug and heard others did, too. The hotel often smelled like sewage - not sure if it was true sewage or from the stagnant swamp water next to our building. There appeared to be mold on the exterior of the building and in our room and the lighting in our room was very dim. The room was clean - I wiped everything down with disinfecting wipes and they were spotless! Over all we really did have a great time!

  Food poisoning and poor service

  Great Resort if you love food poisoning. 30 plus members of our group of about 100 ended up with some sort of food poisoning. The Splash Resort is nowhere near the beach. There is a shuttle but it runs infrequently. So most of the time you're stuck walking the 20 minutes to the beach. Also if you're okay with horrible service this is the place to be. Wait staff always chatting never filling drinks. Many days of our 7 day trip we had to go find glasses and water pitchers ourselves because no one was filling drinks. Food all tastes the same......not great. During my stent with food poisoning I was relegated to my room for 3 days and during those days the power would go off for an hour at a time. Internet constantly cutting off to the point where I could not even answer emails. You are constantly solicited from all sorts of vendors. If I was in a blizzard and had to come somewhere warm and could not go anywhere else, I think I would stand in front of a heater and picture myself on the beach rather than coming here again.

  Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the “Diamond” Label

  I regret choosing this resort. Being booked under “Diamond” status meant nothing. We were placed in a crowded, noisy “Diamond” room and sat at a table littered with crumbs, drink rings, and food scraps. Check-in was disorganized, another guest cut in front of us and staff did nothing. Our room was directly in front of the waterpark and near late-night parties, making it impossible to relax. The room smelled unpleasant, with food wrappers left in drawers. The shower malfunctioned, and although our butler noticed the remote was broken, it was never replaced. Dining was equally disappointing. The buffet was unappetizing, with dry or watery food, no sanitizer, and missing utensils for desserts. Staff at the “Diamond” desk ignored us while chatting among themselves. We left without eating and skipped our dinner reservation altogether. We reported all of this through our travel company, who promised escalation to management. Hours later, we’ve heard nothing. Instead, I’m lying awake listening to slamming doors and loud guests in the hallway. This has been stressful, upsetting, and far from the vacation we expected. The resort failed to deliver on cleanliness, service, and basic hospitality. I wish I took a photo of the large chunk of meat under the welcome table. I made a comment and someone came over to finally clean it up. But still did not check the other area or wipe up the table. I plan to take more photos to support my claim of this horrible place.

  Solid resort in Punta Cana with inconsistent experiences

  My family and I recently returned from the Royalton Splash Punta Cana after a 5 night stay. I was concerned after reading so many negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised for most issues - key word being most but definitely not all. We were able to take advantage of the Diamond Club program, which I highly recommend if it is within your budget. Check-in was easy in the Diamond Lounge, and we were walking to our room with our butler within 20 minutes. Our butler, Edwin, was AMAZING. He checked in every morning regarding our stay and what he could do to help make it better. He made our dinner reservations, brought us more amenities beyond the standard mini-bar, and went out of his way to make sure my son had extra water and crackers after too much sun. The Diamond Club spaces (section of buffet dining room, separate pool, beach access and bar) are great. Our family suite was perfect in that there were separate sleeping spaces for adults and children. The bunk beds can easily fit 3 kids. The only issues we had with the room were number of chairs on the balcony (only 2) and dead light bulbs in the bathroom that never got replaced (we were fine). Just keep in mind that there are no elevators on the property, so traversing the stairs may be a problem for some families. The pools were amazing. There are three pools on the Splash side of the resort: "loud" pool with music and entertainment, "quiet" pool, and Diamond pool. We spent all of our time at the "quiet" pool. Shout out to Elias and Nidarlys at the Bubbles pool bar. There are variable depths and features for every member of the family. Chairs may be hard to come by, and we definitely saw the early bird claimers out before technical opening time. We mainly went for the water park, which did not disappoint. My son barely made the height requirement for the majority of the slides (thank goodness), and he loved all of them. We spent at least 2 hours at the water park every day. Two notable downsides for the waterpark: the walking surface is EXTREMELY SLIPPERY. We saw adults and kids take a dive every day. You must walk slowly if you want to stay upright. The other problem is the hours. The waterpark closes at 4pm every day, as opposed to the pools at 7pm. Even another hour would have been great. The dining options, both food and service, are inconsistent. The buffet is a buffet. No standouts but no issues. We heard about people getting sick, but we had no problems in that department. We had great food and service (shout out to Bladimir) at Bella Cucina, the Italian option on the Splash side. We had great food but inconsistent service at Grazie Trattoria, the Italian option on the Beach side. We had terrible food and service at Hunter's, the steakhouse on the Beach side. One issue that occurred repeatedly was "missing" menu items. At every restaurant we attended, and the beach bar, one of the first items we ordered was not available. The worst part of the stay was our dealings with Royalton Excursions. I had researched the options provided by the resort, in partnership with Nexus Tours, prior to departure. We were planning on booking the 4x4 buggies and the ziplines. After a discussion with the Royalton rep (who will not be named at this time), we booked a combo tour. Our pick up time was 7:40am and we were promised that we would be back by 1-2pm, as this tour did not include lunch. This was key for us, as we did not want to be gone all day and miss time at the waterpark. The whole experience was chaotic from the start. Our pickup bus was late, and then we were driven to a gas station to get on another bus. We did not even leave for our actual excursion until 9:30am. On that bus, we were told that we would be with Santiago, the guide from the excursion center. Santiago never appeared. We wandered by ourselves to the buggie start center. The buggies themselves were great - PJ and team at Adventure Runners were awesome. However, when we returned, we were thrown into a huge crowd of people that were doing a variety of tours at the location. No one was able to answer questions (language barrier). We were repeatedly told that we had to have lunch before the ziplines. Cue the major disappointment from my son, as well as irritance because the lunch had very limited food options. We continued to ask who our guide was and where we needed to go, to no avail. I pestered the guide from the bus ride until he finally called our bracelet color for transport to the zipline center. We were met with more standing around for the activity to start. Ziplines themselves were fun, except that my son was "too small" to do 1/3 of the lines. Afterwards, we had MORE standing around. None of the guides knew what to do with us, and one eventually walked us back to the buggie center where we stood in the heat for another 45 minutes waiting for someone to figure out how to get us home. The mysterious Santiago finally appeared and put us on a bus with people from our resort who had done THREE activities that day. We did not get back to the hotel until 4:30pm. Needless to say, I will be pursuing a refund from Royalton Excursions. Overall, the resort is a family-friendly option in the Punta Cana area with decent amenities. If you stay on property and don't expect fine dining, you should be just fine.
