Jan 12, 2026Royalton splash in Dominican is a thumbs down!
A Disappointing Experience to say the least! I came to the Dominican Republic expecting a relaxing family vacation in the sun, but instead left feeling disappointed by the poor hospitality and disorganization throughout our stay at Royalton Splash Punta Cana. From the start, luggage delivery was chaotic. Despite the resort offering assistance, we ended up retrieving our own bags to avoid delays. Even my mother, who paid for Diamond Club privileges, experienced similar issues upon arrival and departure. The biggest concern was the prevalence of smoking around family areas—especially the pools. Although smoking was clearly prohibited, many guests ignored the rules and resort staff did nothing when we complained. My 10‑year‑old daughter was even exposed to secondhand smoke right by the pool, which was unacceptable for a “family resort.” Safety was another issue: the stone pathways were dangerously slippery when wet, posing a serious hazard for children and anyone with mobility challenges. The resort also lacked transparency. An arcade advertised online turned out not to exist, and the level of exclusivity was frustrating. Without paying for Diamond Club access, you’re excluded from several amenities and higher‑quality dining options, making the “all‑inclusive” concept misleading and poor value for money. Restaurant quality varied greatly. Food at the buffet and standard à la carte restaurants was repetitive and often inconsistent with the menu descriptions. Service was slow, and utensils were frequently missing. Room service routinely took over 90 minutes. The water park was fun but offered only drinks, no food. Snack options were limited to the same burgers and hot dogs daily. Customer service was inconsistent—many female servers appeared unfriendly or disengaged, while male staff were generally welcoming. The reservation app didn’t work, forcing us to rely on concierges who repeatedly pressured us to attend promotional “membership” breakfasts. Tourist exploitation was also a recurring theme. Many goods were outrageously overpriced, priced only in USD( Royalton is a Canadian owned company), and local products were difficult to bring home. A sealed bottle of Mamajuana medicine we purchased was confiscated at La Romana Airport without explanation, even though identical bottles were sold just beyond security. Staff at the airport showed no willingness to help resolve the issue, reflecting the same lack of professionalism we saw at the resort. A few positives: the coffee shop served good pastries and drinks, the kids club had fun activities, and the entertainment lineup was lively.Overall, the lack of hospitality, organization, and respect left us deeply disappointed. We will not be returning to the Dominican Republic or recommending this destination to others.

Lovely staff fun friendly and attentive. Clean hotel and grounds really beautiful setting. Only criticism is to book a table in one of the restaurants is extremely difficult and although the buffet was tasty and a great selection we would have liked to have used the restaurants more. But really enjoyed our stay. ☺️
