So happy we stuck with this resort.
I was really worried after reading all the reviews about this resort. I have travelled extensively to many resorts and islands over the past 40 years and I just am so elated that my experience so far has been beyond wonderful. The front desk staff, the cleaning crew, the housekeepers, the restaurant staff, and the groundskeepers do an amazing job in all areas pertaining to the resort. We have eaten at three à la carte restaurants to date and they have all been great. We did have one minor issue with our room and called maintenance. They showed up within three minutes, and our problem was solved. The only complaint we had was the long check-in process. We arrived at 11 PM and did not get a room until 2 AM. When a flight arrives late at night they need to have staff to deal with the check-in process. On another note the beach area is well maintained and very beautiful and there are an abundance of seats available. I am so happy we chose this resort and would like to thank all the workers here who have made it a wonderful experience for us thus far. We are currently in building number seven and enjoy both the view and the room facilities. Here is hoping to four more amazing days!!

Treated like royalty at Royalton Riviera
As seasoned travellers to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, we do our homework before booking and like to stay at different properties throughout the country. Our preference is five star resorts, though we've also experienced some in the four and three star categories. We followed Royalton Riviera group sites on Facebook and Trip Advisor and knew the property would be closing for three months to coincide with a management change and to refresh certain areas of the resort, reopening in early December 2025. We chose Diamond Club level to elevate our experience, and enjoy the extra benefits. Following the reopening, there were many negative posts on social media from guests who were alarmed by lack of hot water in rooms, inadequate towels and bedding supply, lounge chair hogs at poolside, unresponsive DC butlers, inadequate staffing etc. We were quite concerned! We arrived mid-January, five weeks after the Royalton Riviera reopened, and to our great delight we experienced NONE of these issues. Our perception is that resort management actively listens to, and is proactively soliciting, guest feedback. They are responding on an ongoing basis with obvious improvements, which took place throughout our stay. Of note: We had zero issues with hot water; it was in constant supply. Housekeeping happily provided extra towels we requested, and refreshed them twice per day (daytime and at evening turndown). Pool staff have been empowered to reassign loungers 'saved' by early rising guests who place a towel on them, then disappear for several hours. Our two butlers, Cesar and Marlon were exceptional - Cesar greeted us on arrival late at night; both butlers immediately responded to our WhatsApp group chat inquiries throughout our stay, checking in with us in person almost daily, assisting us with our a la carte restaurant reservations - ALL secured at the exact times and requested locations, and going above and beyond. Cesar personally helped to set up birthday decorations in our room to surprise my spouse and Marlon co-ordinated a birthday serenade that evening at the Zen Teppanyaki restaurant. These two treated us like royalty! The buffet food was beyond plentiful, with selections for every palate and preference. However, there is room for improvement particularly with the baking and desserts. Most of the cakes and muffins are bland and taste similar; mostly vanilla and chocolate with little else from a flavour perspective. Royalton Riviera's a la carte restaurants are superb! Creative food presentation, flavours and themed environments scored high with us. Hunter Steakhouse, Taj Indian and Armadillo Tex-Mex were our favourites. One caveat; the table we were seated at for dinner in Armadillo (main dining area near DC pool) was very poorly lit; we could barely see our food! A tabletop lamp would easily remedy this. The Royal Spa experience was wonderful. The massage (for him) and a separate couples hydrotherapy session (complimentary with Diamond Club) takes place in a beautiful and relaxing environment. We highly recommend. One of the highlights of our stay has been our interactions with staff, who are incredibly hardworking and pleasant. You'll notice most employees, from the gardeners to housekeeping - not just the guest-focused staff - will make eye contact and greet you with a smile. Their hand on their heart as they encounter you is a lovely gesture! In addition to our fantastic butlers, the following Royalton staff were wonderful to us: Willy (bellman) Jarod (server) at Taj Indian Enrique (service) at Grand Marché buffet Juan Carlos (DC pool attendant) Sulemy (hostess) at Gourmet Marché buffet Abigal, Luis and Enrique (amazing servers) at Grand Marché Buffet Moises and Javier (lunch) Jose (dinner) wait staff at Armadillo restaurant Jose Luis (server) and Fonté (manager) at Carribbean restaurant Ricardo (waiter) at Hunter Steakhouse - he remembered us a week after our first visit! Henri (waiter) at Agave These team members clearly love what they do, and it shows! Was everything perfect? Not always. On one occasion the guests next door to us were loud and obnoxious, playing expletive-laden music in the wee hours of the morning. There were cloudy days, and some rain. From time to time, we encountered swampy smells, paticularly in the stairwells. And sand flea bites from the beach. The poolside food trucks ran out of some menu items. A server forgot to bring something we ordered. We took these in stride, and had a terrific time. Thank you, Royalton Riviera Resort!

This Resort did not disappoint!! Was wonderful!!
The Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort was a great winter vacation for us. We spent two weeks enjoying all the services of the Diamond Club. First of all our Butlers, Oscar and Carlos were fantastic. They were always there to help make our experience wonderful by letting us know the activities of the day, advising us on ala cart restaurants and making our reservations for us and they were both so friendly. We were treated very well by Abigail, Luis and Rodrigo in the diamond club dining room of the Buffet. They were so attentive and accommodating. The food at the buffet and ala Cart restaurants was really great. We were a little disappointed at the Italian restaurant but other than that the food did not disappoint. The pool guys at the Diamond club pool area, Juan and Aldo were awesome also by always assisting us finding pool loungers and bringing us towels. The waiters bringing drinks worked very hard to keep us refreshed. Our room was always keep clean and stocked. Julio, our room attendant took very good care of keeping it clean. Overall the hotel is kept very clean. We seen cleaners throughout the resort at all times during day and evening. All in all we had a super great vacation.

Diamond club Marlon and Cesar
Celebrating 25th anniversary with friends! Everyone had a wonderful time! We enjoyed the adult hideaway with diamond club amenities. Marlon and Cesar were our butlers and did a wonderful job answering every question and helping with any need we had.

Shout out to Diamond pool staff Juan!
We went January 24-30 2026. Royalton Rivera Cancún was beautiful but really far from everything else, so plan accordingly. It seems necessary to be a Diamond member to get better service. The pool staff was great! Shout out to our favorite Juan(we will miss you)! But the drink pool staff was meh. We needed to go get our own drink often no matter how much you tip. The restaurants were good, you had to book 2 days in advance. Our butlers Nassau and Diego were sooo great, they were very attentive and kind! Download the WhatsApp for best service. Drinks seemed good. The rooms were cleanish, but nice. The resort flowed nice. Not a great night life at all. All and all 7-10.
