    Marvellous Mexico

We spent 2 weeks at the Royalton Riviera. It was our first stay in Mexico and we loved it. We were able to visit all seven à la carte restaurants and that really made the difference to our experience. The staff at the restaurants were very busy but they were all friendly and helpful. The buffet restaurant had good food with a great choice but because of the size of the place it felt like a canteen. It would have been better if they had a separate area for children. We used the gym which was very well equipped and I enjoyed Brandon’s aqua and zumba classes. The only negatives were some of the clientele who were very loud and drank tequila all day but we were able to avoid them by spending more time at the beach. Some guests were putting towels on multiple beds and not using them all day which wasn’t monitored by the pool guys. They should have drinking water fountains to save on the amount of plastic.

Enjoyable resort. Food has been good but tonight we had Mercedes the waitress at the Indian restaurant Taj do an incredible job for us. She was sweet, kind and efficient. We will be back!

Family-Friendly Resort with Room for Improvement

3-Star Review We recently stayed at this hotel and had a mixed experience. The rooms themselves were nice, clean, and comfortable. The resort is absolutely geared toward families — there are multiple kid-friendly pools and plenty of activities. If you’re traveling with children, this is definitely a strong option, and kids seemed to be having an amazing time. However, several issues impacted our stay. Our room faced an alley where a group of runners gathered each morning around 6:00 a.m. They were talking loudly and laughing as they went back and forth, which made it difficult to sleep. If you’re sensitive to noise, room location may be something to consider. The pool chair situation was also frustrating. Guests reserve chairs very early in the morning, leaving little to no availability unless you do the same. It creates an uncomfortable “rush to claim” dynamic rather than a relaxed vacation atmosphere. The food was another disappointment. Many dishes were overly salty, which took away from the dining experience. We also experienced issues with restaurant reservations. The app consistently showed the specialty restaurants as fully booked. However, a staff member at the pool was selling bottles of wine and indicated he could secure a reservation. We purchased two bottles at $50 each to obtain a reservation at the steak restaurant. Upon arrival, we were told those wines were not available and that only bottles over $100 were offered. We declined and chose house wine instead. The restaurant itself was only about a quarter full, which made the situation feel confusing and poorly coordinated. Overall, the property has strong potential and is very family-friendly, but the operational inconsistencies, food quality, and noise issues resulted in a 3-star experience for us.
