Could be good but…..
Arrived14th January for 2 weeks. My husband is in a wheelchair and we were given a room in building 8 on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel overlooking the mangrove swamps. The resort is so far away from anywhere. No local bus and taxis are expensive! The room: large room with huge bed. Also in the room is the bath and two wash hand basins. There was a curtain to draw for privacy. The toilet was in a room on its own so you had to come out into the bedroom to wash your hands. The drains smelled strongly of sewage and as the bath was in the bedroom it impacted our sleep. We did notify customer service but it was not resolved. There was a balcony but due to the proximity of the mangroves, the midges and mosquitoes made it unusable. The bathrooms had huge fluffy towels but the bathrobes were dreadfully thin and not made from towelling. There was a coffee machine in the room but no tea making facilities. There was not much storage in the room. There are several pools. The sun beds are plastic rattan with no cushions. I have never been to a hotel without sunbed cushions before. Once again customer relations gave us 2 cushions due to my husbands disability (so they obviously had them) but these were reserved for us every day so no one else would use them. Which caused people to stop and ask us why we had them. There were Balinese beds along the edge of the pool but these were reserved for either people who bought timeshare or people who paid $170 to hire one for the day with a bottle of sparkling wine and six bottles of beer! The food in the main buffet was varied but was lukewarm at best if not cold. The day before we came away the restaurant manager came around as they were giving out review forms. We told him and the next day there was a microwave on the buffet for people to warm their food. So at least he addressed the problem. We tried the a la crate restaurants but didn’t enjoy them. I was violently sick after supper at the Indian restaurant. The Italian was inedible and the Caribbean was dreadful. In the main building the lifts are confusing. You have to press button 3 to go to the 2nd floor! There was very few staff at the bars so getting a drink was never a quick option and the drinks ere low quality local unless once again you pay extra. There was a nice bar on the sand which was only available to people who had paid extra. My husband was unwell whilst we were there and I paid £37 for antibiotics which the guest relations sent for me. In the shop in the hotel I paid £20 for a packet of throat lozenges for him! That morning I went into the breakfast buffet and asked if I might take him some toast back to the room I explained he was unwell. The concierge said that was not possible and we would have to use room service (which was complimentary) this we did and waited an hour and a half to be given cold toast. It was so silly as I could have made it and taken it to him in less than 5 minutes. I had to give my credit card and they said they would take a £200 deposit just to have some laundry done. This cost £46. When we left and settled the bill the man on reception couldn’t find the laundry bill and I had to insist that I owed it. My husband had a massage in the spa for £120 and I was charged £60 just to use the sauna and whirlpools. I was left alone in the room with the whirlpools so missed half of the massage pools as I didn’t realise they were to massage different parts of my body. This hotel is very big, set on a powdered sand beach. My husband took his motorised scooter and was able to access 95% of the hotel. There were ramps everywhere. It has the potential to be perfect but is a long way from 5 stars at the moment. The Tui reps at the hotel were excellent. Oumou and Ciaran helped us so much. Oumou is so knowledgeable of the country and the hotel. So friendly and pleasant she was the best rep we have ever had from Tui. Unfortunately we would not return or recommend this hotel.
