Worst vacation ever
First of all let me say I've been to the Dominican before and it was actually at a different Resort and the best vacation we've ever taken I've traveled extensively Canada Portugal Spain Greece Japan Philippines that being said almost nothing on this vacation went well first of all we chose this particular Resort because it offered a $300 Resort credit nothing was mentioned about it when we checked in I asked about it the second day and I was given a coupon book totaling $300 for example you got 2 $25 coupons for the spa so in other words you had to pay for the spa visit and you got $25 off they were not combinable that's a big difference from a $300 credit then right from checking everything went wrong as soon as we stepped out of the taxi cab there was three attendance there when no one approached us we walked up and asked them where do we check in once we inform them we were staying at the Hideaway which was the resort all the way in the back along the beach they took the next few minutes to argue amongst themselves in Spanish it was going to take us not knowing that I understood then one of them led us to the bar and we were told to wait 15 minutes later I got tired of waiting but back up to the front asked what was going on we were then informed that somebody would come to the bar to pick us up so we went back to the bar for another 15 minutes finally somebody showed up took us back to the front and put us in one of the two golf carts that have been there all along oh by the way we were both caring two bags no offer to help with a baggage which pissed me off so I took one of my wife's so she didn't have to carry two bags we had some rain while we were there it took us two days to get an umbrella which was already supposed to be in the closet as soon as we checked in the mini bar needed to be replenished by informed him that we only need water and Heineken the beer choices were either Heineken or Coors Light that's it despite asking on a daily basis they only made an attempt to replenish the bar once 4 days into our trip he brought up one course light can and two bottles of water the rest of the time I had to go down to resupply myself we checked in early afternoon we asked the front desk where we can get something to eat they pointed us to the buffet restaurant which we didn't find out until we walked over there that it was closed throughout the whole Resort as many bars as they have they have one option as far as beer Dominican draft we had to resupply the coffee station in our room ourselves much like the minibar the one day we decided to go to the Punta Cana Mall which was 15 minutes outside the resort they called us a taxi who drove for 5 minutes turned down an alley and then another alley and then pull us into an empty lot behind several buildings that look like apartment buildings there stood about four or five Street vendors with little 3x3 tables when I informed the driver this is not the Punta Cana mall he said this was cheaper and better so I looked him in the eye in a tone that left no doubt my intent and I told him get us back to the resort now which thankfully he did on the first day of check-in we informed them that our fridge was not working properly twice during our visit somebody came up to check it out and told us it would be replaced by the time we left if it had been replaced it was replaced with another broken one it barely kept drinks cooler than the room we were in the one morning we ordered breakfast for room service after an hour I called again and asked what the holdup was they asked us what we were ordering after I told them they confirmed they had the order it would be another 45 minutes so we left and went out for breakfast even our checkout was a nightmare we asked for a bellhop to collect our luggage cuz we were on the third floor and there's no elevators bellhop never showed up so we carried our suitcases to the main front office try to check out they informed us we needed a bellhop ticket I told them we didn't have one because he never showed up then they asked us again for the ticket to board the transport so I had to go back to the main desk to get a ticket so we can board the main transport any one of these might not seem like a big deal but when you have problem after problem after problem day after day your whole trip it tends to wear you down and I'd like to note that the front desk was made aware of every issue that we had and at no point during our entire stay was any effort made by management to contact us or try to resolve any issues

Great Staff, Shame about the Guests
Travelled with my wife as a Birthday trip, following on from a cruise in the Caribbean and the hotel and our butler Reinaldo made it a special day with Banners balloons and a personal Birthday cake, Reinaldo was a great help throughout the holiday. The Hotel staff and room were very good; the hotel was showing some wear and tear making the star rating doubtful. Hygiene around the restaurants was questionable, with no handwash or sanitisation points for guests and whilst the staff did their best to maintain standards around the buffet it is also the responsibility of the guests, who seemed to show no regard for others wellbeing, especially with their children’s behaviour. Food quality was OK but range based very much on local taste. Beach was excellent, but well worth the upgrade to Diamond Club as the main beach is quite small and shared with the 3 hotels. Pools were adequate but again spoiled by behaviour of guests, the amount of drinks tipped into the water made it quite unpleasant. This is very much a resort holiday, with very few options to leave the Hotel but the usual range of very loud activities are available during the day and a show in the evening, the highlight of which I thought was going to be the Micheal Jackson tribute, but he didn't sing!! Bizarre.

Overall good vacation
Our stay was great overall. This was a family vacation so as long as my son was happy, I was happy. The water park was good, as well as the pools and the beach. We swam in the ocean every day, no seaweed or anything like that. We ate mostly at the buffet by choice, the selection of different seafood items made me really happy. Our butler Omar was helpful and available. Looking forward to returning the next winter!

Clean resort, excellent staff, a la carte system needs work
Our family had a great time at this resort. The kids loved the waterpark and taking a walk to spot the iguanas, turtles and different birds. The staff were incredible (except the guys pushing the membership breakfasts, they really got on my nerves by the end of the week). One of the kids is a very picky eater and Carlos in the buffet had a cheese pizza ready for him every night. Antonio at the swim up bar also had great report with the kids and adults alike. The ladies in the coffee shop were lovely and so friendly. Juan at Guest Services was a life-saver in getting a la carte reservations for our group of 8 together. The a la carte reservation system is the pits, plain and simple. If you have a group larger than 4 you will not be able to book through the app. There were 8 of us and Juan was able to get us into the Steak House and the Teppanyaki at reasonable times. The Steak House was okay, the Teppanyaki was delicious. The food at the Sports Bar was disappointing. Buffets always had a great variety, and as someone who is cautious about getting travelers bug, I really appreciate the amount of cooked vegetables at the resort. I felt like I ate healthier here than at any other resort we have been to. I did slip up and eat the salad at the Steak House, I think that is what got some of us. Only eat cooked vegetables folks! 6 of 8 of us did end up getting a 24 hour bug, though I know for certain that a few were from our lunch we did off the resort. Speaking of which, guest services did help us arrange a shuttle into town. Would highly recommend. The evening entertainment was sub-par, I will say, with the exception of the circus show and the white party - both of those were really fun to watch and participate in. The coffee shops were great, we used them multiple times through the day (although they do not have decaf, I brought my own pouches and just ordered Agua Caliente). We got a couple of coconuts from the guys at the Coconut stand next to the pool bar. $5USD each - card or charge to room. Ask for the Heaven On Earth cocktail in your coconut. Overall, the drinks here at Royalton were better than another resort we visited on this trip. The smaller footprint of the resort was nice and made everything easily accessible, but we were told near the end of our trip the resort was 97% capacity, and you really felt it. It did get crowded. Only other real issue we had was the water to our building was shut off overnight for the first few nights. We assume maintenance, but there was no communication about it.
