    Absolutely horrible on all levels

Food anywhere on the resort is awful. Gym is run down. Resort needed a remodel 5 years ago. Had water coming in from the ceiling that had to be fixed. All doors are almost impossible to open. Hydro spa was closed with no notice. They lock specific toilets so they dont have to service them. Price is not fair compared to others. Will never return. One of the bars refused to acknowledge us even after we asked them to. Upgrade to Diamond is a complete waste of money. Diamond buffet is worse than the regular one. Have to be Diamond to get a decent time at any restaurant. Reservations required. I can go on and on. I'm embarrassed for Marriott. They should be ashamed! And no, I travel a bunch and only post when I feel humanity needs to know what they are getting g into. This is one of those....

    Mixed Experience

HONEST REVIEW: We just returned back after 6 days at the Royalton Bavaro. We were a couple celebrating our Honeymoon :) Here is my honest review as someone who has traveled to 30+ countries previously but this was my first all-inclusive/first time in the DR. We were NOT Diamond Club. PROS- -The resort/room was BEAUTIFUL. Landscaping and plants were gorgeous. Grounds were clean. Beach is breath taking. Pools and lazy river were great. The room (we were in a junior swim out) was great- comfy bed, huge shower, and the swim out was incredible. We were in building 18 which I was nervous about based on previous reviews but our room was great. Maybe a loose outlet and some wall scratches but everything worked fine. The AC was so nice and we got daily maid/mini bar service. I loved the robe and slippers! -The drinks were delicious! We mostly enjoyed frozen drinks (Coco Loco, Miami Vice, Pina Colada, Mud Slide, etc) and loved how they were often served in large glasses with fruit garnish. Had to ask for a straw most of the time (impossible to drink a frozen drink without one). We also loved the mama juana shots. -Great shows- we saw the Adele tribute and the fire dancers. It was cool to have different events nightly, and I loved all the outdoor furniture all over the lobby area. There were a lot of comfortable spots to rest -Best places to eat- Scoops (all the mini sandwiches, pastries and smoothies were so good) and Zen Teppanyaki (the hibachi meal was my favorite the whole trip) -The spa was so nice. I went for the reflexology massage (and she upsold me an additional $50 massage without me understanding but more on that later)- you get a locker and a robe and wait in a room with cucumber water, the massage was so relaxing and a nice break -Check in/check out was easy, we just gave ourselves enough time. But we didn't request a specific room beforehand so I think this helped CONS: -The food was so disappointing :( overly processed, lukewarm, reheated, either overly salty or bland. We thankfully didn't get food posioning or anything but we were bummed out. Score served stale pretzels & "quasadillas" that are tiny ham and cheese sandwiches, Hunter serves overly fatty meat, Rio everything was cold, the burgers at the pool foodtruck weren't seasoned and we weren't brave enough to try the chicken sitting out in the heat by the lazy river restaurant. Also the buffet had food that seemed reheated and stale. We just weren't really wowed by anything. -The dining reservation system is a NIGHTMARE. Obviously we were non DC but we should still be able to eat at these restaurants without waking up early and competing for reservation slots. Then when you go to your reservation half the restaurant is empty. We were told concierge would help us get reservations if we bought expensive wine or a tomahawk steak. It's so exhausting. From all the people we know who had DC they mainly just used their butler to get them reservations. No one thought the price was worth it -THE SCAMMING AND UPSELLING GOING ON AT THIS RESORT IS OUT OF CONTROL. From the check in with staff trying to upsell DC, to the concierge trying to get us to go to timeshare breakfast presentations before they help us, to us being bribed with expensive steak and lobster to get reservations to the excursion people all over the place--it's fatiguing. And like I mentioned the masseuse sold me an additional massage without me understanding. Didn't know until I tried to leave and she made me sign something. The worst of all are the vendors the resort allows to set up tables selling jewelry and trinkets that are cheaply made. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. The approach you and put jewelry on you then drag you to their tables and demand insane prices for cheap products. Then they get rude and aggressive when you say no. I have NO problem with the beach vendors- you politely say no and they will walk away. But these other vendors harassing guests on the resort are ridiculous. Left such a bad taste in my mouth. Again this is my first all inclusive so I not sure if this is part of the experience? But it definitely puts you on edge -The staff and service are hit or miss. Some staff are very polite and kind. Others are absolutely miserable. Staff seem to switch different locations/restaurants daily so that will determine your wait time- Score you won't get your food for 30 minutes while groups of staff stand around chatting, the buffet you wait forever for your drink but our Teppenyaki chef was delightful, as was our Oceanside waiter and most of the bar tenders are great. You will notice some treat the men in your party differently than the women though. Overall we had a good time but we wouldn't return. Our favorite day was when we did an offsite Snorkeling trip I booked on Viator.com myself through Hispaniola Aquatic Adventures Punta Cana and I cannot recommend them enough! Ultimately I think no one will be miserable at Royalton Bavaro but if you're used to a 5 star experience this just isn't it.

One of the Most Disappointing Resort Experiences We’ve Ever Had

This was one of the most disappointing resorts we have ever stayed at. We paid extra for the Diamond Club Luxury Presidential One-Bedroom Suite and endured a three-hour check-in, extreme disorganization, and a complete waste of vacation time. When we finally entered the room—advertised as a Diamond Club Luxury Suite—it was filthy and clearly neglected, with dirty furniture and a strong sewage odor. There was hair everywhere (on the floors, inside drawers, and throughout the bathroom), drink spills on the floor, and stains in the bathtub. Housekeeping was sent after we complained, but the room was left in the same condition. For the sewage smell, we were simply given a diffuser and told it should help. The food and dining experience were unacceptable. The food quality was poor, and the restaurants themselves were dirty, rundown, and unsanitary, with food stains on the walls. Basic service standards were missing entirely. It felt as though food from earlier meals was being reused. My husband suffered food poisoning and was ill for several days. The constant sewage smell in our room made us so nauseous that we had to turn off the AC and fans. The Diamond Club staff were rude, dismissive, and openly hostile. Simple requests were met with attitude, eye-rolling, and irritation. There was no sense of hospitality or concern for guest safety or comfort. The room we were ultimately given—still labeled “Diamond Club”—was at the far end of the third floor, with an elevator that did not work for all seven days. The stairwell lights were also not working, creating a dangerous situation. Outdoor walkways were filthy and slippery. This property is unsanitary, unsafe, poorly managed, and wildly overpriced. We paid $12,000 for a trip for two adults and two children. I would never recommend this resort to friends, family, or anyone considering staying here.

    Not a 5 star resort

I traveled to Royalton Bavaro expecting a relaxing few days with my husband for our babymoon. However, our trip was not without its hiccups and frustrations. I have been to Punta Cana 10 times and stayed at many resorts but this was my husband’s first time in Punta Cana. Like many reviewers have said, check in is an extremely slow and frustrating experience. It took us over 2 hours to check in and we still didn’t get the room we reserved. We tried to switch it the next day but we kept getting passed around to different people and nobody was willing to help us. The room itself is definitely showing lots of wear and tear. It was clean, but there are dents and scratches and worn down areas all over the room. The buffet restaurant at night is extremely chaotic so I recommend getting a restaurant reservation for every night. We were not Diamond Club members so even getting a reservation was a huge hassle and took a lot of time. The beach is beautiful but the towel game is very real. There are many people who leave towels in the front row only to show up at 3:00 pm and nothing is done about it. We had no issues with service but it is clear the staff is overworked and overwhelmed. We only came to the Royalton because it’s a Marriott properly and we had points to use or lose; however, we are returning to Punta Cana but staying elsewhere. I do not recommend this resort if you are looking for a stress free and relaxing trip.

A great place for families to enjoy a relaxing time!

We had a relaxing and amazing time at the Royalton Bavaro. The environment was beautiful and there were many pools to choose from. I was traveling alone with my 4 year old son. What made our stay extra special was with the help of particular staff. I'm hard of hearing and have Celiac disease. Angela was an absolute Angel and assisted me with food the whole time, ensuring I didn't have to worry about getting sick from gluten. She was helping everyday ensuring that I was able to eat and even having the food brought to me, since sometimes my four year old didn't want to go anywhere. I would come back to the resort just to have Angela's service again. Grace from hospitality was so friendly and attentive for us, she always made sure we had what we needed in our room and was patient and kind with my son! We loved seeing her smiling face everyday. We also had some wonderful service from Clara at guest services who made us feel like extra special guests and was able to answer my questions whenever I needed, she went above and beyond with a special dinner arrangement for us too! I was sad I didn't get to meet her face to face but would like to recognize her for her excellent customer service skills. The staff kept the place neat and tidy and helped whenever we requested anything. What was not great was the gentleman that checked us in at the beginning of the trip. Hector at the front desk did not help us in anyway and made acquiring our room especially difficult. He even laughed at me when I tried to tell him I was deaf and I needed some assistance to understand what he was saying. I'd gladly provide further feedback and details if required. Thank you for having us Royalton Bavaro! You are wonderful 😊😊😊
