    Only a 3 star hotel

Check in was at 3pm, could not check in at 2:55 even though the room was ready, was told we had to wait till 3pm. Upon arrival we were assigned a concierge for the week. Yaque (pronounced Jackie) said he works for Marriott and not the Royalton sales office. He insisted we book all our dinner reservations all through him. First and second nights dinner reverved. Get to the restaurant they do not have our reservations, had to spend 15-20 min for them to figure out what to do. Finally got in. Had the obligatory sales pitch meeting. The second we said no to the 50k USD 10 year time share then all bets were off. Yaque was MIA from that point onwards. He never responded to repeated what’s app messages and said we need to contact the Infopoint desk. Dinner at all of the boutique restaurants was bland at best. We had to reserve the coveted steak house dinner via the Infopoint desk (guest service booth outside of the sales office) get to the restaurant and again they do not have our reservations. You also only had 2 options for steak. An anorexic Flank or New York steak. No tenderloin/filet. No flavour and tough. The best meals were at the buffet restaurant where they cook you up tenderloin all you can eat, stir fry, eggs/omelettes. Enjoyed the coffee shop, chocolate muffins. But for 2 nights there was no ice cream. All restaurants expect tips, they get sour faces if you don’t tip. The pool tables are not free. Your teenagers will have to buy tokens. $1 USD per token, pool costs 3 tokens. Air Hockey table did not have a hockey puck so we had to find out the hard way after inserting our tokens. There was only 1 ping pong table, located outside in the sun no covering/shade. The banana boat/couch ride on the ocean they say was $25 per person for the couch. When we went to buy it, all of a sudden it’s $30 because we are paying by credit card. Our toilet in our room constantly had toilet paper returning from somewhere in the pipe to sit at the bottom of the toilet bowl. There was a sewer smell every now and then from this clogged pipe. Everyone on other reviews say that there is a mildew smell, that is not mildew it’s sewer. The shower had dual overhead showers but only cold water came out. Only the wall shower worked well for hot water. There was no privacy for my wife I the bathroom as the bathroom had no walls situated in the centre of the room. She had to change in the toilet or I the shower behind the frosted glass door. The lazy river was nice and very big. There was only a half dozen tubes/floaties to use. You had to buy your own to ensure you had a floaty. The beach was nice with a lot of room and beach beds/chairs. No bugs at the beach. The beach hawkers/sellers didn’t bother you, they were not aggressive. We had a swim out pool, which was clean. The snacks to purchase at the gift store was very expensive. Two pringles was $20 or $13 for 1 The sales office gave us 2 passes for the flow rider/wave/surf rider. Unfortunately a week before our arrival we received an email saying they are closing the wave rider for maintenance for 2 weeks. We managed to trade our passes for day passes to their sister hotel that had the Splash park/water slides. There was entertainment in the amphitheater every night. But it repeated weekly. We stayed for 10 days/9 nights arrived on Friday and the second Friday /Saturday was the same shows. This hotel is not a 4/5 star. It’s 3 at best. @marriott needs to send a secret shopper here to do a check up as a regular guest as this hotel does not live up to Marriott standards.

    Horrible service

This was the fourth year in a row that we went to an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana. Our previous experience with other resorts was amazing, that's why we kept coming back. However, this experience was by far the worst amongst the four. I will mention all the details that i personally experienced, although i understand that it could be long and maybe boring for some of the readers. 1) When we entered into our room for the very first time, we noticed that that mini-bar had some used bottles in it. It was such a turn-off right off the bat. 2) Later that day when we went for some light lunch at the buffet; no server would come and take our drink orders for 20+ min. Ended up finishing up the food with no drinks. 3) The next day we ran out of towels early during the day. Had to call the front desk four times asking for extra towels with no luck. We ended up drying up my 7-year-old with hand towels. 4) The next day, the electronic lock of the entrance door to our room broke. Had to wait few hours for someone to come to look into it and fix it. Had to wait outside. 5) On day 3 we saw a roach in our room; therefore, had to call and ask for them to spray our room. 6) On certain days the bathroom would just smell awful (sewer smell). 7) They force you to use their app to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants, however the app doesn't allow you to make any reservations for parties who are not in the same room with you. Hence making it very difficult when you are traveling with extended family members or friends that stay in other rooms. 8) Their photography sales person saw us in the lobby and after a long negotiation we agreed on a deal and we made an appointment. After taking our pictures, their office would not honor the agreement between us and their sales person. Unreal... All in all, the service of this resort was so bad that i may not even go back to Punta Cana anymore.

    Family vacation for 21 people!

We had a party of 21 people all booked through Travelsmart (I’m a member) and was there for a family vacation while also celebrating a 50th Birthday for one of the family member. I can’t speak on behalf of the party, but I will speak about my experiences at Royalton Bavaro. This was probably the 5th time I’ve been at this resort and have noticed some changes. First off, our Travelsmart rep/butler Eduardo was absolutely amazing. Eduardo was able to accommodate all of our requests (including decorating the room for the 50 the birthday along with a cake). He did a fantastic job and met all of our guests needs. The butler/rep Eduardo is what made our trip a great one and without his level of service, our experience on this trip would definitely be slightly downgraded. So thank Eduardo for all you did for me and our entire party, your efforts and level of service is admirable. Diamond Club was able to accommodate to all of our room reservations (ie. swimouts in the same building), along with some room changes. Check-in and check-out was smooth, especially the check-out all due to Eduardo! As mentioned, this was our 5th time at this resort, with the last one in 2023. Things I’ve noticed that made me feel this resort has lost some of its lustre. 1. A lot of the a la carte menus have changed, mainly the selections have been reduced. For example, Hunter’s steakhouse used to have ribeye and filet mignon on their menu, but now only offers flank and New York. All of us were slightly disappointed to see the trimmed down menu. We noticed the trimmed down menu in all of the a la carte restaurants except for ZEN as we did not patron at that restaurant, so can’t comment on that one. 2. The friendliness of the staff. In the past, all staff (including grounds keepers and other workers) used to always smile and initiate a friendly greeting with Hola! This time around our party noticed this is no longer the norm and most staff would reciprocate the gesture if we initiated the greeting. Although not a big deal, we’ve come to realize that little gesture was something that we vacationers actually enjoyed, valued and welcomed. 3. I myself also noticed the upkeep of common areas to not be like what they once were. On my first day of arrival, I noticed a spilt passion fruit drink on the floor in front of the elevator. What surprised me was that the spilt drink was not cleaned until the next day! It literally sat on the floor the whole day and as well on the following day. Low season or not, stuff like that should be taken care of the same day latest! 4. Royal Spa Their whirlpool did not have heat, which kinda sucked and took away from the luxuriousness of the spa. Otherwise the massage was great and relaxing! Those were the differences I noticed compared to my previous trips here. Having said that, some parts of the resort is showing signs of more wear & tear but that’s somewhat expected so no concerns with that. Now onto the part where I wasn’t a fan of. PRIME membership. I was asked to participate in their “meeting” which I was fine to do so and I informed my Travelsmart concierge Diego that I’m willing to go but I will not make a decision the same day. When time came for the meeting, they (PRIME) wanted my wife to also be present and didn’t want me to attend the meeting without her. They brought out one of their management dudes from Prime named Ashken and basically told me I would have to make a decision after the presentation. Obviously I objected and considering PRIME is the new Travelsmart program, you would think being an existing Travelsmart member (where I’ve already paid into a vacation club) they would be more accommodating. But nope, they DGAF and that’s fine, I’m happy to not enroll into their club, even though the likelihood was high that I would. They literally lost a potential customer. Despite the cloudy weather the first few days due to hurricane Melissa, the tail end of our vacay was amazing with sunshine and hot temps. Once again, we want to extend a special thank you to Eduardo for making this vacation memorable, without his service and attentiveness, this trip wouldn’t have been the same and I look forward to having him again when I return in Jan 2026 for my mothers 70th bday. TLDR: Eduardo is by far the best, upkeep of resort dwindled a bit (irrespective if it’s low-season and most staff are on vacay), trimmed down a la carte menu sucked a bit, Ashken from Prime sucked a lot. Will return because we enjoy what this resort has to offer, but may consider other options going forward.

    Amazing holiday

We stayed at The Royalton Bavaro from the 2nd October to the 19th October. We was DC and all I can say is Wow. On arrival we was greeted by our Butler Jorge and instantly knew we was going to have a wonderful time. He explained everything to us, and what we should expect from him. He was very informative about our room, the service he would provide for us to make our stay memorable. He made our stay stress free and always went above & beyond, Royalton you should be very proud of this young man as he set a very high president for the hotel. Jorge made all our reservations, came everyday to us and always making sure we ok. He took family snaps of us, which we would never have(behind our backs) nothing was never any trouble and he was always attentive at all times. He ran our jacuzzi bath after going on trips, which was a fabulous gesture, rose petals included. He was caring, thoughtful and you could tell he wanted the best for us and interacted with us at least 6 times a day, but also respecting our privacy. 100% we would want Jorge as he made our stay very special, so thank you Jorge you are one very special person & employee, thank you for your impeccable service. when we return. DC is worth every penny. We found the resort immaculate, and all our food was delicious. We went to a speciality restaurant every night and big shout out to ZEN(chefs table) absolutely brilliant & entertaining, so was the Al a carte, and also Grazie too. I asked if I could change a dish and they honoured my request and nothing was too much trouble. We even tried the Buffett restaurant on the last night and it’s not like your standard buffet restaurant, service was 10 out of 10 too. Staff was also amazing and added to our holiday. A big shout out to Ricardo, Rayner, and Carlos in the DC beach bar they work so hard to make your holiday enjoyable & memorable.for this reason we would definitely return to this hotel as they made our holiday too. So thank you for your service. Can’t wait to return as we had the most amazing time with very special staff. It was also lovely to see Elvis walking about & catching up with us making sure everything was right. To be honest we was worried about some of the reviews but we said we would make our opinion and my review is an honest one.
