Employees walk in on your kids

Honest review from Thanksgiving week and our vow renewal. Long review but everyone going here needs to know this. I read all the bad reviews and I didn't believe them as we've traveled all over and have been to resorts where we are having a great time and others are miserable so I didn't believe the bad reviews. I was wrong believe all the bad reviews. I would encourage anyone planning on going here to cancel your trip and go somewhere else. It starts as soon as you leave the airport. The amount of trash everywhere in Punta Cana is horrible. It is so sad to see how locals disrespect the beautiful place they live. Every encounter with locals is some kind of a scam or hustle. Then you get to the resort and it's even worse. We brought a group of 32 for our vow renewal. Upon check-in my wife and kids were immediately separated from the rest of the group as we got a free upgrade to Diamond club for the amount of people we brought. We were taken to the Diamond Club lounge for food and drinks and checkin. The food in the diamond club is dangerous to eat! Not fresh and not temperature controlled. We were told our room was just being finished up and would be ready in a few minutes. This continues every half hour for 5 hours. Our bags were taken from us and basically missed out on our entire first day. We were given a Butler named Jesus who was great at blaming others and making promises that never happened. Once we get to our room none of the amenities we are supposed to have are available and the excuses start coming. By this point we are starving and told our only option for the next few days as the resort is busy is to go to the buffet. They weren't wrong the first couple days the resort was over crowded and under staffed. Finding anything edible was nearly impossible. It's almost impossible to get dinner reservations without going to time share meeting here. After a couple days we were able to get a reservation for Zen. The show was pretty good but it's extremely hot and our food was so over cooked we couldn't eat it. Rio was our best meal of the week. Our last night we went to the Italian restaurant where we waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes while everyone in the restaurant ate around us and we had the first reservations of the night. Finally hard crunchy pasta without sauce came out and we left and went to the buffet. The food in the lazy river area is probably the most consistent but literally we are talking about only being able to eat nachos with cheese sauce, pepperoni pizza and ice cream at a Luxury resort. We are not picky eaters and love all types of food and understand that the resort is trying to feed people from all over the world but 90% of the food wouldn't be eaten by anyone. All week long we kept being approached with special wedding gifts. Those are timeshare offers and you can't just say no at the beginning of the week the harras you every day all week. We did think we were getting a good deal for hydrotherapy and couples massages. Wrong. The hot water doesn't work in the hydrotherapy and it's freezing cold and unusable. Not a relaxing spa experience. But unfortunately the wedding day is when it gets really bad. Brianga is the wedding coordinator and said a golf cart was supposed to show up for the men and women to take us to the wedding location. The guys never showed up and I had to force them to go get my wife for the ceremony. We got a 3 room suite so everyone could get ready for the wedding in our room. Housekeeping hadn't been there in 3 days and I was begging everyone I could just to get clean towels before our wedding. Once I made it to the beach for the wedding where I was immediately approached by Ariel the photographer trying to hustle me for money 2 minutes before the ceremony saying the $450 we already paid didn't cover anything. I told him to leave me alone and I wasn't paying him any extra. So he goes and tries the same thing to my wife. Luckily it started raining as soon as the ceremony started and lifted my mood because I was not happy. We went into the ocean in our wedding clothes for pictures so we had to go back to the room to shower and change after the ceremony. Once my 8 year old daughter got out of the shower in our connecting room. A bell boy from the front desk walks in on my daughter naked with two other guests. The employee starts yelling at me telling me we are in the wrong room while I'm forcing him and two other adult strangers out of the room with my naked daughter. We had been in those rooms for 4 days at that point. For the next couple days the front desk continues to call asking information and why we are in that room. We get settled down and go to our wedding dinner which we had to pay $25 a person for to be put in the main buffet with everyone else that's eating for free. The next day we go to meet with the wedding photographer and get told that the money we paid for doesn't cover the pictures we want and we agreed to pay $15 per picture before the wedding. We never did. The photographer starts trying to strongarm us in the corner and I said we aren't paying for anything and leaving to talk to the wedding coordinator. She was in on it too. They both were yelling at us had my wife bawling her eyes and saying we don't know what we are talking about and this is everything we agreed to. At that point I was losing my cool and told them everything they were putting us through and all we wanted was an apology from someone for my daughter. At this point they brought Elvis the diamond club manager to speak with us and I explained everything that was going on. He said he would investigate things and make things better the rest of our trip. We are pretty sure at that point a memo was sent to staff not to help us at all. Elvis the manager never spoke to us again. The wedding coordinator and Butler ignored us. We would go to dinner and everyone around us would be served and we never would. On multiple occasions the staff would just say No and walk away if my kids or I would ask for something. It was absolutely crazy. No issues were ever addressed or resolved. Don't get diamond club service is worse than regular service. Everything here is an upcharge no top shelf drinks. The lazy river is awesome and the bar staff in the river is the best in the resort. That's about the only positive of this place. Our group made the best of this place but definitely would never be back.

Beautiful Resort but not the most friendly service

The resort and the beach are beautiful, the amenities are abundant. I highly recommend doing Diamond Club when staying at a Royalton - having a butler is a huge advantage (Thank you, Kelvin!), as well as the additional dining and pool options. Bartenders Alexi and Walkidia were a lot of fun! Housekeeping was excellent! Now for the reasons this was only a 3 star review... The food itself was the least impressive of all the resorts we have stayed at. The service while dining at any self-seating restaurant was inattentive and slow. Staff weren't rude but most were not friendly either. We arrived before checkin time, and no one gave us any information about how to use resort credits (so we lost them) or oriented us to the room or resort, just dropped us off in our room which was not stocked and did not have many of the check-in amenities as described for our room. Service at the pools or on the beach was minimal, unless you paid for a cabana. The sales pitches were endless, both on resort and on the beach - They did not like to take No for an answer, especially on the beach and the "local market" sales people set up on the resort premises. Mainly being approached every time you were walking around or finding a lounger somewhere got really old really fast. The app was incorrect about restaurant hours which was frustrating. Overall, we had a great time and got to spend a week in the sun, so I hate to complain, but we will find another place to spend our money next time.

    Regular stay to Prime Member

To be totally honest when we first arrived we were not happy there were things we asked for and never received. It was difficult to make a dinner reservation etc. I suppose as we get older we expect things to be a certain way. We upgraded to Prime Diamond Club and everything changed but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Ask and you shall receive that’s how it works of course not without paying but we did not work hard for nothing. We were given a personal butler who honestly becomes your best friend. Jesus was a gentleman. Very respectful and accommodating. We celebrated our daughters birthday and on short notice he had balloons, confetti, a banner and cake for her private birthday celebration at the steakhouse. We can’t wait to visit all the Diamond Club properties around the world!

    Butler service was amazing

The resort has a nice location and the pools and common areas are well maintains. The real highlight, what makes the stay most memorable, is the butler! We stayed for 10 days and had the best butler, Gerlyn. His smile and true desire to assist in making it a wonderful stay are unmatched. He checked in on us regularly, looked for us on the property throughout the day to ensure everting was in perfect, dinner reservations, room decorations for our celebrations. What a treat to have someone to pamper us.

Great family all-inclusive resort and vacation.

The Royalton Bavaro hotel and resort was an excellent experience. The rooms were big and comfortable and nice. The staff did an excellent job stocking the mini fridge. The resort restaurants were excellent with lots of good food and plenty of variety for a week. The photography studio was excellent and professional and provided some good photos for us. I would highly recommend the diamond club status at the resort. It provided some very nice perks the best of which were the butlers that worked with us all week and made our stay amazing. Jesus and Joel were amazing and went above and beyond to provide us with an excellent experience. They helped us make reservations and made sure that we had poolside chairs at the diamond club pool. We took 11 people and had five rooms and all of the rooms were great. We would go back again. There was nothing at the hotel resort that we had a complaint about. The one thing I would recommend is that you take plenty of USdollars as they are not plentiful and the Dominican pesos are the primary thing that you get out of the ATMs. Everyone takes US dollars but they are not easy to find.
