A Truly Special Caribbean Experience – Already Booked Our Return

We just returned from Royalton Antigua and can confidently say this was one of our most memorable vacations. In fact, we loved it so much that we’ve already booked our return for next year. Chairman’s Overwater Bungalow We stayed in the Chairman’s Overwater Bungalow, and it was absolutely incredible—truly a unique experience in the Caribbean. The bungalow was private, spacious, beautifully designed, and packed with features, including a private pool. Fish surrounded the bungalow nearly day and night, and being able to jump directly into the warm water was something we’ll never forget. From our room, we watched cruise ships glide in and out of St. John’s and admired the stunning private yachts moving through the harbor. It was peaceful, romantic, and endlessly fascinating. The Beach The beach is perfect. The water is warm, clean, clear, and calm—ideal for swimming and floating, unlike beaches exposed to the open ocean. The sand is beautiful, and there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Even with the resort at full capacity, it never felt crowded. The beach staff is outstanding, providing drink and food service right to your chairs. There are also plenty of included watersports, which is a great bonus. In addition, some of the friendliest guys rent jet skis right on the beach. My wife and I took a 90-minute jet ski ride from Deep Bay to Jolly Harbour, and it was an absolute highlight of our trip. Pools The pool area is great—warm, clean, spacious, and featuring an excellent swim-up bar. We didn’t use it much, simply because the beach and our private pool were too good to leave. Food & Restaurants The food offerings were very good overall, but what truly made the restaurants special were the people. We had most of our breakfasts at the beach-side Diamond Club area, and the ladies there are simply amazing. Collette is warm, kind, and treated us like family. Lesa and Kayla are friendly, funny, and incredibly attentive. After the first day, they greeted us by name and genuinely seemed happy to see us every morning. They also work the Beach Club Grill for lunch, which meant the excellent service continued throughout the day. At Grazie, Gail was fantastic. She and my wife greeted each other with hugs and chatted throughout dinner like old friends. We also had wonderful service at Hunter’s. If you get the chance, do the Culinary Experience. It’s a 7-course meal, every bite is delicious, and the chef and service team are warm, engaging, and generous with their time. Come hungry—you’ll need to. By the end of the night, they were hugging my wife like family. Excursions We did two excursions through Nexus Tours, and Larissa was absolutely fantastic—friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. She helped us replace a tour that was canceled and felt more like a friend on the island than a tour rep. Excellence Catamaran: A beautiful trip around the island on a comfortable boat, with snorkeling and swimming at Green Island. The only downside was that several boats arrived at the same tiny beach at the same time, making it feel crowded. As Royalton guests, we loved being dropped off on the beach at the resort at the end of the day. Jeep Safari / Stingray City: You do get to see a lot of the island, but manage expectations—this isn’t a quiet countryside drive. Much of it is bumpy city streets and neighborhoods. Stingray City, however, is absolutely worth it. You get to touch, hold, and feed very gentle stingrays swimming all around you in open water. It was fantastic. Diamond Club & Butler Service What truly separated this vacation from others was the Diamond Club and Butler Service. I cannot recommend this enough. Our butlers, Khem and Earl, were absolutely spectacular. From the moment we arrived until they personally put us into a private ride back to the airport, they took care of everything. They felt like friends, not just staff. Earl greeted us at the Diamond Lounge, escorted us to our bungalow, welcomed us with champagne and fruit, gave us a full room tour, and personally escorted us to dinner that first night. Khem met us the next morning and was kind, attentive, and incredibly responsive. When we had a small issue with the room, he whisked us off to the spa and handled everything while we relaxed. During our stay, I actually felt under the weather on New Year’s Eve. The butlers checked up on me constantly, personally brought food, extra water, and snacks, and even followed up with a fruit tray to keep me hydrated. The level of personal care and attention they provided was amazing and made me feel truly looked after. Dinner reservations, cabanas, spa appointments, room perfection—they handled it all seamlessly. It’s hard to imagine how different this trip would have been without them. Management That Makes a Difference For part of our stay, Royalton’s Director of Operations – West Indies, Victor Mojica, was on property. This guy was amazing. He leads from the front, and we saw him everywhere—at the restaurants, pools, and beaches. From our first morning, he greeted us by name every time we saw him, warmly asking how things were going and if we needed anything. We talked about other Royalton properties and how special Royalton Antigua is in their portfolio. He even offered his email so we could follow up after the visit with any thoughts—a level of personal attention you rarely see. Victor’s presence truly enhanced the experience and made the resort feel personal and cared-for at every level. Final Thoughts Royalton Antigua delivered an experience that felt luxurious, warm, and genuinely personal. Between the overwater bungalow, the incredible staff, the Diamond Club service, and the engagement from management, this vacation truly stood out—and we’re already counting the days until we return.

    Great experience, price is right

Beach and views make this place special. As long as you accept this is a 3/4 star resort totally worth it for the price and location… we would go back anytime but they sure did make new years special! Diamond Club is necessary. While the butler service is limited (they made sure all our room needs were met and reservations were done - perfect - but if you’ve been to sandals this isn’t the same) the diamond club beach area was elevated and their bar and lunch was the best! The food overall was ok, this is not a foodie resort - the action stations like omelets, stir fry, fish fry were really good. The vibe team activities in the day were fun and the nightly entertainment were good. They put on a huge New Year’s party that was super impressive. Can’t wait to do it again next year!! We’ve never seen anywhere this beautiful! Can’t wait to go back.

    Big let down

Location stunning but everything else less than average. A family of 4 we stayed between Christmas and into the New Year. The hotel was busy as expected but to not be able to book a restaurant unless it was at 9pm is unacceptable! Buffet was then a let down. Local food awful, food quality poor and 3 out of 4 of us were ill! Not sure from what but quite a few other guest we spoke to had been ill too! Cleanliness was an issue, hallways unswept, public toilet soaps left empty for days - basic standards of cleanliness just not being met. Sanitizer only came out after multiple sicknesses had been reported. Staff were rude except for a few and it felt like everything was too much trouble, this should not be the case at such a luxury resort! Minimum expectation is a smile. You might get luxury if you’re part of their diamond club…. But we certainly didn’t think this hotel qualifies for the price tag or should be associated with luxury.

Inconsistent - and at times downright disappointing - service in a beautiful location

You want the Royalton to be better than it is. It's in a beautiful location, the property itself has a lot going for it, and some of the staff seem to care about doing a good job. Also, it's not inexpensive. Unfortunately, this is not a hotel I can recommend, unless you are willing to overlook a steady stream of service issues. For us (a low maintenance family of three that travels regularly internationally, and has Marriott Platinum status), these included: -No housekeeping at all on one of our four full days at the hotel. After returning to our room in the evening after a full day out, we spent three more hours just trying to track down fresh towels -We had a similar experience on our first night trying to get sheets and pillows for the pullout bed. This required multiple messages to the butler service and housekeeping -Speaking of the butler service, this sounds like a nice feature, but it's not well-executed. For example: when we checked in at the Diamond Club, we had to wait an hour for our butlers to arrive, and we were told we couldn't go up to our room without them. When they eventually arrived to take us up, there didn't seem to be a single reason we couldn't have just gone up ourselves. -Dinner reservations! I spent many hours ahead of our trip trying to make dinner reservations, but kept being told by hotel staff that we could take care of that when we arrived. I continued to press and got the reservations booked. Thank goodness I spent the time doing that....because when we arrived, we were told the hotel restaurants were fully booked throughout our stay. I heard other guests complaining about this as well. -The food at the restaurants is average at best, and some of the food at the buffet really was inedible. No one goes to an all-inclusive for the food quality, but this was worse than expected. And even some of the servers commented on the low quality of the wine! -Then there are all of the little things: the used towel bins by the pool and beach were always overflowing, the elevators were regularly having issues, the hot tubs at the pool were cold. There are some positives: -The property is quite pretty, as is the location. The water sports available through the hotel are great (jet skis, boat rides, etc) -The gym is nice for a hotel fitness center, and there are a nice array of classes each day - bootcamp, yoga, etc.) -The coffee/ice cream shop was a nice touch and the staff there was among the nicest and most engaging at the hotel Again, you want to like this hotel, but there are just too many issues to recommend staying here.
