Dinner at Sugar Mill was solid but service at end suffered
We had dinner at Sugar Mill in April and found the food to be solid. Unfortunately at the end of the meal the service fell flat for a 5 star hotel. At the end of the meal we asked the server if she could call a taxi for us. We were told we needed to go to the front desk to request a taxi. We went to the front desk to request a taxi and had to ask twice for our taxi. 25 minutes later a taxi arrived after someone from the resort stopped by to ask us if we needed help. He called again for a taxi and about 5 minutes later a taxi arrived. The taxi ride was $20 for 2 people to go 1.2 miles which the driver said was double the price since we were coming from Little Dix Bay. If you go I would recommend you set up your own transportation. It’s a shame the hotel doesn’t have some arrangement with the local taxis. We enjoyed the dinner but the hotel dropped the ball in the end. Not something I would expect from a 5 star hotel.

A St. Thomas must.
Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Outside seating, wonderful service, food and cocktails. Staff was very engaging, many from different parts of the world. Very fresh and interesting options. Sushi was amazing. Liked it so much we went back and enjoyed just as much the second time.

Could be 5 stars with a few tweaks
We stayed here for 5 nights as a family of four (including our two kids, 14 and 11). I considered giving a 5 star review because it’s certainly 5 stars relative to many of the other places we have stayed, but I don’t believe it quite deserves 5 stars relative to its own price point. For two interconnecting rooms we paid 4k per night. At this level, everything should be close to perfect. The positives: - First and foremost is the beauty of the property. The beach is stunning and the manicured grounds are totally immaculate. When we stepped off the boat at the jetty, having already spent 10 nights exploring the BVI, we felt transported to another level of comfort and luxury. - Sugar Mill and Reef House were both lovely spots for lunch/ dinner. - Little touches like the complimentary afternoon tea, canapes on the beach and ice cream at 2.30pm every day felt special. Room for improvement: - Service is good but not excellent. - Pavilion restaurant (the main breakfast restaurant where you can also dine for lunch and dinner) didnt impress us. The breakfast buffet is adequate but not special. And we strongly felt that the menu items should also be available to those who have breakfast included. On the first morning we were told that “the menu is only for people who are paying for breakfast.” This is never the case at other high end hotels - eg at the Four Seasons you can usually have the buffet and/ or the menu items for no extra charge. We were also very disappointed by the Pavilion dinner buffet. At 115 dollars per person (for fairly limited choices) it was the worst value dinner we had during our stay. There are so many great places to dine on Virgin Gorda and we would recommend leaving the hotel to experience them. Biggest issue: Lack of water!!! This is something that always bugs me. In such a hot and sunny place, there should be water coolers placed around the property for guests to help themselves to water. There are none! It was VERY difficult to get water during the day. There’s no beach bar - just 3 fairly formal restaurants - and so you are dependent on the beach servers when you want a drink. This isn’t conducive to getting a quick refreshment when you need one. One day I waited 2.5 hours for some water after asking for some!! I didn’t even want to trouble someone with this - I just wanted to help myself. But no option to do this even exists. The next day, I stood outside the kitchen and I had to ask 5 people (!) before someone could get me a flask of water. PLEASE do something about this. Overall, this is a special place to stay but they need to think a little more about how to make their guests feel valued, so that you notice the exorbitant prices less and don’t begrudge paying them.

Excellent family stay
Beautiful resort and excellent concierge team! Very relaxing stay and can’t wait to go back! The food was excellent at every restaurant we tried on property. Our concierge team was readily available to help with requests. My kids loved the beach and snorkeling.

Quiet spot in a beautiful location
Beautiful location, luxury beachfront room. Friendly staff and great beach. It’s certainly not a budget spot but the BVIs are all high end properties. Socially is a bit limited as everything is a trek so feels a bit isolated but if you want a restful place there are few places better
