Service Standards Contrasts
I recently visited Little Dix Bay Resort mainly for a spa appointment for my birthday. From my first phone call, the Spa team impressed me with professionalism, courtesy, and genuine care. Even when travel delays made me late, they accommodated a later appointment without fuss. Upon arrival, the same warmth continued — check-in was smooth, staff were attentive, and every interaction felt first-class. The Spa team was simply superb. Unfortunately, my experience at the Reef House Restaurant was the exact opposite. After my spa visit, the team kindly arranged a golf cart to take us to the restaurant. Before we could even enter, a staff member shouted to the driver that they weren’t open yet and she was still setting up. A professional approach would have been to greet us, invite us to wait in the lounge, and let us know when they were ready. That didn’t happen. When I asked if the bar was open, I was told yes — but it didn’t feel welcomed and I had to fetch the drinks menu myself from near the staff. The bartender was pleasant, and he indicated that he would bring the drinks out to us as we were waiting. No one came to update us until the same bartender happened to walk by. That could purely be my assumptions and expectations. Once seated, I ordered a salad, half chicken, and truffle potatoes. The server repeated it as “truffle fries” — when I pointed out the menu said potatoes, she shrugged and confirmed it was fries. I said you have Cajun Fries and Truffle Potatoes, so is it my understanding that both are fries? Her body language showed little concern. I do not care for “junk/fast food,” and chicken with fries or mainly fast-food side dishes or salad is not what I solely expect from a luxury resort restaurant. I declined the dish and ordered something else. Service continued to be inattentive — when my knife fell to the ground, the waitress turned around, looked at me and then turned back around, but did not replace it until I asked someone else. Why did I have to ask for a replacement? Then a sudden downpour soaked all five tables. The hostess helpfully offered to reseat us. The manager came and checked on every other table except ours (which got wet the most). Many would automatically state, it’s because we were the only black patrons. However, whether the distinction was based on race — for instance, Negro versus Caucasian — on status, such as Staying Guests versus Visiting Guests, or what he perceived as High-Class versus Average or Low-Class, or whether it was simply the result of poor judgment, the conduct was unacceptable. All patrons are entitled to equal treatment. In the end, only one server — the same one who replaced my knife, the bartender and the hostess — showed consistent professionalism and attentiveness. The Reef House’s service standards were far below what Little Dix Bay advertises. If you promote luxury, it must be matched by excellent service. The stark contrast between the exceptional Spa and the disappointing restaurant was remarkable.

The setting and staff at the Sense Spa, Rosewood Little Dix Bay, were all perfect. We were treated so well throughout our service- they made us comfortable provided us with thoughtful amenities and made the whole experience rejuvenating while still creating a calm and serene atmosphere. I appreciated that the focus was on us and the services provided and not on trying to sell us products. We finished with Prosecco and time in the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Fantastic Resort
We really enjoyed our stay at Rosewood. The room was very comfortable. There are no TV’s in the room but that wasn’t a problem. Each room is assigned a butler and they take care of any need you have like ….. a golf cart ride to breakfast, more water in the room, restaurant reservations on property or off property, arranging a rental jeep, arranging transportation to off property restaurants, and more. The butler service really made our stay more enjoyable. The staff is great and will help in any way. The beach has plenty of chairs and the beach service is great. There are 3 restaurants and each has good food. Overall this is one of the best resorts we have ever stayed at.

Beautiful location, 3 star resort at most
As a couple who has traveled to many hotels (all tiers) and enjoys splurging on nice resorts for special occasions, my husband and I didn’t think twice about booking Little Dix Bay as it gets pretty solid reviews and has a high return rate. I’ll start with the positives of the resort, because there are quite a few. The location itself doesn’t get prettier — it’s lush and tranquil, with turquoise water for miles. There are plenty of paths to walk, the gym is well equipped, as well as well kept tennis and pickleball courts. The staff is extremely friendly and the rooms are a great size with great bedding and pillows. Where this resort falls flat is that your experience is entirely dependent upon the fellow guests at the property during your stay. The rooms are on top of one another and situated condo style. We were in a bottom room and unfortunately the guests above us made so much noise (through no fault of their own, just trying to move around) and the guests in the room attached to ours had a child that did not sleep, that nothing about being in the room felt peaceful. It was no use trying to switch as the initial room they had put us in wasn’t what we had booked, so we were already on our second room. We had two different meal experiences where kids were running and screaming through the restaurant, as well as climbing over rock walls, while diners just kind of sat there horrified. This has nothing to do with kids being present at the resort, but it’s hardly the type of dinner atmosphere you expect when you’re eating a $300+ meal. On the subject of dining, the food is not five star, nor is there much variety and each night half the menu items were “unavailable” anyway, but five star prices are attached and service leaves much to be desired. After the second meal with unruly guests, we stopped eating at the resort and took a cab each night to eat elsewhere. During our stay we learned that the resort was booked at capacity and it became increasingly obvious that the staff is ill-equipped to handle a full load (simple things like forgetting to bring coffee orders, feelings of overwhelm from butler, no beach service or severely delayed (45 min or more), etc.) which makes it impossible to rate this hotel at the 5-star ranking it boasts. The BVI are absolutely gorgeous and worth visiting, but for the money you’ll pay to visit Little Dix Bay, you could charter a private boat for a week and see/do so much more with a much better experience.
