Great hotel & beach
We've stayed here between 3 - 17 March 2020 and had a fantastic stay. Food - breakfast & dinner very tasty & good selection, lunch very repetitive but you can have it in 2 other RIU hotels nearby. No booking required at a la carte which we really liked. Good selections of drinks & cocktails. Beach - lovely and we actually chose this hotel because of the natural shade provided by palm trees as there is nothing worse than waking up at 6:00 am on your holiday and taking part in the race to reserve a papala for a day. No need for that in this hotel. You can find free sun beds at any time of the day. We never stayed by the pool so can't comment on that. Staff - hardworking and friendly, service really good at restaurants (thank you Lennin) and bars (thank you Naomi) and also at reception. Cleanliness/room comfort - rooms spotlessly clean (housekeeping ladies work really hard, best HK we ever experienced in any hotel!), comfortable beds and no problems with the room except the leak from air con which was fixed promptly. However, we found the fact that they put clean towels into the toilet a bit disgusting, it just doesn't feel very hygienic. Having said that we stayed in this hotel during Covid-19 pandemic and we felt very safe and well looked after, it was very clean everywhere and hand gels were in every restaurant and toilet. We felt they take safety of guests very seriously. Gym - very outdated, used it just once because the half of equipment didn't work properly (good excuse not to exercise on holiday and enjoy being lazy !) Entertainment - very good Highlights: beach and amazing staff We had a lovely holiday and already recommended this resort to our friends for their anniversary. We might be back too!
Amazing - Fabulous 1st visit to Mexico
Firstly my review is slightly touched with sadness! The fact being no one is able to experience the fantastic Hotel Riu Yucatan like me because of the Corono Virus, well not for quite some months, lets hope its not very long. I was extremely lucky to be able to have my holiday here 9-21st March 2020. From the minute I arrived I just knew I had chosen the right place. The reception staff were so friendly and efficient. My room was on the ground floor just what I requested and was beautiful, the room was so spacious, clean and had all the facilities I needed. The pools were so clean, I saw them cleaning the pools every day they were immaculate. The restaurants were well amazing the choice of food was just exceptional, the waiter/waitress service was brilliant. They were so friendly, polite and definitely looked after you. I had a few trips out of the hotel I can certainly recommend the swimming with turtles and the cenote. I booked these through the TUI reps who I have got to say were absolutely outstanding, they worked so hard and were there everyday if you needed them. Overall I couldn't have wished for a better holiday. The hotel is immaculate, so clean, well organised and very very friendly there is nothing the staff wouldn't do to make you more welcome. The beach, well what can I say I was absolutely blown away, it was so clean, the hotel staff cleaned the beach every morning. There were always plenty of sunbeds. and you could get bar service if you wanted. Just a little note here, get up early about 6.30am to watch the sunrise omg well worth it. I felt like I was in the jungle with the monkeys and all the wildlife amazing. Seriously I could write a book about this hotel, it surpassed all my expectations . It was very sad to leave as all the staff were facing a very difficult time due to the closure of the hotel due to the Covid 19. I wish them all well and sincerely hope that it is not long before they can welcome guests to their hotel who can experience the holiday I had with them all. On an ending note can I thank the TUI staff who looked after me so well being a solo traveller, I booked a full package holiday with TUI and can highly recommend them during the flight and the hotel reps Huuda in particular was brilliant. I would definitely recommend this hotel so highly in every way and I hope to return next year to see all the amazing staff again. Thankyou to everyone at the Hotel Riu Yukatan for a perfect holiday.
Corona Vacation March 2020
I’m calling this vacation Corona.....stayed at the Riu Yucatan March 8-16, 2020. Beautiful resort, only 500 rooms which is perfect as I prefer the smaller resorts! The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, our room 6308 was close to the bridge where the Howling Monkeys are located, the patio overlooked the entertainment area but still had a view of the ocean. Nice and clean and plenty of room for my friend and I.....the bathroom had a glass door on the shower which was kinda of weird but my friend and I managed.....one of us would stay on the patio until the other was finished in the shower. Our housekeeper for the week was AMA DE LLAVES and she was excellent!! The food was delicious and lots of choices, the only restaurant you had to reserve was the Steak House, had no issues with getting in..... and the steak was very yummy. Would also like to mention our server in the mornings at the buffet....his name is DAVID and he went above and beyond every morning!! My only complaint would be to teach your servers to not pick up glasses from the top.....as a server myself, every time I see this I cringe!! Overall it was a great vacation although a little stressful knowing what was going on back home with Covid-19, the internet was great and I could keep up with everything. Sunwing representatives were in the lobby all day and never hesitated answering our questions and concerns! Thank You Riu Yucatan for an amazing week!!
Yes, Yes, Yes.
Our departure date was the 13th March and we were very reluctant to travel because of Covid 19. At this stage however, there were no travel restrictions to Mexico, Tui were not prepared to allow us to cancel and so we went. The hotel is very well kept although the rooms are in need of some updating. There are numerous bars to choose from throughout the day. There's a pool with activities throughout the day and there is a quieter pool for those wanting a more relaxing time. The beach is magnificent. Sunbeds are plentiful at both pools and on the beach. The food we found to be well above average for A/I. The staff are second to none in their attitude and the service they provide. Nightly entertainment was provided and although not cruise ship standard, what we saw of it was of a reasonable standard with maximum effort from the entertainments team. Within a week of our arrival, the Covid 19 situation had escalated and all arrivals to Mexico were cancelled so over the rest of our stay no more tourists arrived and daily people left. The hotel announced that they were closing the day after we were due to depart and that the staff would all be laid off. This didn't change their attitude, professionalism or service. Daily bars and restaurants closed but the hotel maintained their standards until the end. Their are various wild animals living within the hotel grounds including the Howling Monkeys. None of the animals caused us any problems and tend to leave you alone if you leave them alone. TUI were brilliant and managed to get us home as scheduled on the last flight but one out of Mexico. When this is all over we will definitely return.
Fab place friendly staff nice room loved the wild life Monkeys in grounds squirrels loads of gorgeous birds turtles on the beach stunning. Fresh towels every day room cleaned lovely food. Safe to go out at night would highly recommend. TUI who we went with were amazing as the virus was hitting at home U K they sent empty plane with volunteers staff to pick us up I can’t thank them enough and they were cheerful throughout the journey home absolute stars and we will continue to book with them after this current crisis. Just finished 14 days of isolation and as I am frontline care it’s back to work for me massive thank you México we will be back hope everyone stays safe xx
