5 star rating, 5 star service
We spent 14 nights at Riu Yucatan and enjoyed every minute of it. This is a hotel where it is unfair to single people out because everyone plays their part. To explain, we left our clean and tidy room one evening for a drink pre dinner, the reception was ticking over as always, the bar staff happy and efficient, the dining room busy but unflustered, the evenings entertainment was ongoing, a photographer was taking pictures outside, the pool guys were clearing up around the quiet pool and a cleaner was sweeping the path. So who should get the praise, everyone because each is jut doing their part. You put this with local wildlife roaming around but keeping its distance, a beach that buzzes every day and an entertainment team that never slows down and it is just brilliant. Little touches mean a lot, Mrs Corran had her birthday while we were there, no one said anything but on return to our room that day it was decorated with balloons, the bedding and towels were folded extra special, there was a card and a half bottle of Tequila, never had that before. Should you worry about food abroad the Yucatan will put your mind at ease, they cater for all tastes with plenty of variety of always fresh, hot or cold offerings and will go the extra mile if you have allergies.

riu yucatan
I would NEVER do Expedia EVER because of this experience. People were nice and helpful. Value was good. Pools were clean. Food was average. Drinks weren't strong but you could get a double. The Cabernet wine was terrible. Jerome (dancer) and dance team was great. Got my introvert daughter to dance. The entertainment team at the pool was great. They got people to do games and activities. I would recommend continuing these activities. I think having music at the pool would be nice too. There wasn't always music. Doesn't need to be loud but nice to have music. There are some opportunities to improve. AC in our two rooms wasn't adjustable. The thermostat didn't work so it was either blowing cold air or off. Shower broke on last afternoon and maintenance didn't come despite calling 3 times. They were "short staffed" so our kids showered in our room. Expedia tours purchased with Riu Vacations were mixed. Xcaret and EXplore were great and communication was good. chitchen itza with "Cancun site seeing" had poor cooms, charged us $200 extra, and made us get into a cab from the motor coach at the end. The tour was good but the experience was not good. Had to call to find out start times.

Fire Luís.
I liked the hotel, it's good and has incredible attractions. The staff are good, except for Luis, who answered the phone and my family, who was bad. And I would like to recommend the part about not taking off the bracelets, so that we can take them as souvenirs. As someone who likes to collect things like me, I was sad when I had to take them off. You could have chosen to make a line or write "used" on them, because in all the resorts I've been to and asked not to take them off, they didn't take them off. But anyway, I loved the service, but Luis ruins your review. Thanks.

Relaxing holiday
We enjoyed the hotel's facilities, idling by the pool every day - bliss. The outdoor bars were great - usually well-staffed and a good choice of drinks. We enjoyed the restaurants where staff were pleasant/courteous in bringing water and wine to our table. Good choice of food at the buffets. Our room was kept very clean. There was a coffee -maker, drinks optics and mini bar which were supposed to be checked/restocked daily but we were 6 days into the holiday before anyone came to do this. (That was our only complaint) Entertainment was ok for the size of hotel. Fun, games and exercise at the pool. They often had interesting things going on too in reception in the evening before the main theatre activity started. If you like wildlife you will love it. Visits from animals and birds are pretty special.
