  Friends holiday

  We all had a lovely time at the riu yucatan it’s situated in a gated community there’s a shopping arcade just down the road across from the riu playacar hotel the food was great with plenty of choice at all meal times the best a la carte was the Italian beautiful beach with palm trees for shade if you can’t find a sun bed the staff will bring you some we loved seeing all the wildlife around the beautiful well kept grounds the staff all work really hard the rooms are a bit dated but they’ve got everything you need they do smell damp but thats maybe because of the climate our air con worked fine the fridge in the room was restocked when you wanted it you can also use the sister hotels the tequila and the playcar for a change of scenery just a short walk away it isent that far by taxi to playa del carmen with its many shops bars and restaurants we would definitely return to this hotel in the future

  A WONDERFUL winter get away

  We have traveled far and wide. We LOVE this resort! We visited last year, again this year and will definitely return next year. It is an hour drive from the Cancun airport, depending on how many stops you must make on route. The rooms are excellent, clean and very private. I can't say enough about the food! Yes, it is THAT GOOD!. I had the pleasure of meeting Amaury this evening and expressed my pleasure and delight with this resort. I am sending a special shout out to Hortensia and Fuesto , who work tirelessly to provide the best dining experience possible. This is definitely our destination place for the relief we need from our severe winter climate. We look forward to returning again next year at this time.

  Terrible resort go to a different one

  Do not. Stay here. Pictures are deceiving. Old and run down. Rooms were not clean, dirty sheets and shower all stained. Rooms older and smell. Food was not good. Most of my family got sick from it by second day. Asked to move was told no. Complained after returned and basically received RIU 1000 credit points which equals 100.00. We paid for three room and six guests . Not a good trip.

  If you are considering booking here, please don’t hesitate!

  Me and my partner have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel, and what a blast we had! The staff are so friendly and attentive, every part of the hotel is always spotless, and there is always something to do whether this be relax or join in with the entertainment (day and night). There are so many options when it comes to food, and the quality is amazing. With the main buffet, whilst some dishes remain the same daily, there is always something different available so you can vary your meals. We ate at the Chinese A La Carte twice, and the steakhouse once (all A La Cartes are included in all inclusive) and these were also delicious, and once again the staff brilliant. Being all inclusive, you have use of 2 other RIU hotels next door. We only used RIU tequila, which is near enough opposite, as some evenings we preferred the entertainment there. Between the two, you will never be bored! If you are stuck between which hotel to book, we were glad we chose Yucatán because of its beachfront location (there’s about a 15 min walk from Tequila down to the beach). There’s 2 pools, one being more lively and one quieter with Bali beds, and having the option of the beach or one of the pools was really nice. You definitely get value for money when booking all inclusive at this hotel, so if you are considering booking, please don’t hesitate!!

  Great budget option for an all-inclusive with amazing beach!

  We just spend a week here with two kids, 4 and 8 and we had a great time. We like going to an AI in Mexico every so often for a kid friendly vacation and we never want to spend too much. The Riu Yucatan was great for all those reasons. The beach was incredible (the staff made herculean efforts to remove sargassum everyday along the beachfront), the layout was great (not too big or too small of a resort), a quiet pool for kids (less music and party vibe), and the food was decent (I'm picky but there was always something that I enjoyed). The kids club was well organized and our kids loved going, which is the main reason we go to all-inclusive resorts. It also wasn't overly crowded and despite chair hogging, the staff was always happy to bring out more beach chairs if there weren't any. You can go the restaurants whenever you want without reservation and there was barely any wait. Rooms were Main pros: friendly and helpful staff, clean, decent variety in food, fun kids club (hours are limited to 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm), a decent amount of entertainment, fantastic sandy & shallow beach, and most importantly, budget-friendly! Cons: the coffee was terrible, rooms were a bit musty (but it seems always the case when we got to Mexico) and I didn't care for the decor and lighting. The purple/silver tones with cold lighting wasn't a great combo. Notes: the resort had more of a party vibe (discos, foam parties, lots of dancing). Also, the resort is definitely in need of updating but it's enjoyable nonetheless, especially for the price.
