Great stay with another Riu resort
Very well-kept resort: clean in all main areas and housekeeping did a great job day to day. Loved aqua-fit with Mini, as well as the guy who runs it at Jalisco. Being able to go between the two hotels is great - two sets of pools! The food is the same at most Rius - I went to Cabo last year and found that the menus in the restaurants were identical! Would have liked a little more variety in a different city, but if that's my main complaint, we're alright. Very relaxed vibe even with a party scene at times; everyone is just there to have a good time!

Worse experience than expected from a RIU Hotel
We stayed at Hotel Riu Vallarta expecting 5-star experience like RIU Palace, but unfortunately, the level of service and amenities was quite underwhelming. There were no toothbrushes, no slippers. We had to ask for blankets in the room — basic items that we always receive in a RIU Hotels we have stayed before on the East side of Mexico. We had to call the front desk multiple times just for basic needs and the response was slow. Service was poor. Looked like they had less employees - this is true in the entire hotel including restaurants. The room itself felt quite plain and lacked the attention to detail you’d expect in a RIU. On top of all these, one night, we found a cockroach crawling into our room and into the bathroom and we had to step on it to kill it - very disgusting experience. For a RIU, we expected more than this, better hospitality, and thoughtful in-room amenities. Entertainment in the evening - very poor quality and inexperienced performers. The Hotel only looked good from the outside, but the service quality did not match the label. Wouldn’t recommend it to travelers looking for a luxury experience and we will NOT be staying at this resort in future.

No serious complaints!!
We were there with our two toddlers the last week of May 2025. No real complaints at all! Food was good, rooms and grounds were kept clean. The app, wow love that idea! Also love that you don’t have to make resos for the restaurants. The entertainment staff were awesome. They kept everyone informed about activities. The bell boys were so kind. They recommend great nearby markets and shops and were so kind to our kids. If I had to be knit picky, some areas of improvement; the steak house was hard to get into. You had to line up 1 hr before to get onto the list. Hard when you have two impatient toddlers, but we managed and it was delicious. Elevators on the left wing was a bit sus. None of the rooms had bathtubs, so showering on this trip was new for my toddlers.. haha Great hotel. Definitely would stick to Riu hotels in the future! White party was fun and the staff did a great job keeping everyone informed about the shuttle bus and staying engaged.

Nice stay, but too long of lines
Check in was an issue, Sergio at the front desk was great but his supervisor (a blonde lady with a braid) was rude and dismissive. Great room and maid service. Everything else was a waiting game. Lines for drinks, to use the bathroom, to receive and return towels and to get food. Wait staff at the buffet was slow and food would run out because people were allowed to take all of an item. The Italian restaurant was very good with excellent service. All in all it was a good stay just wish they had more staff.

Cold showers and long commutes.
Stay anywhere else. Paid for an upgraded suite. It’s located 15 minutes from an elevator. I asked to downgrade our room to one closer to the elevator ( I have a bad leg) and was told I wouldn’t receive any money back for the downgrade. Also, the shower water in our room does not get hot. Terrible experience. I’ve stayed at other Riu’s but this is the worse. Do not go.
