  So disappointed

  Disappointed. We came to the Riu Tequila on our honeymoon 15 years ago and absolutely loved it so much we always said we’d come back, so this year we did. Now I have to admit booking this hotel is partly out fault as we did not really do our research and just expected everything to be the same as it was 15 years ago, I know silly error as life does move on ans nothing really stays the same. On arrival it was apparent the hotel had received a makeover since our last visit. They have now gone for a more contemporary look and I’m sure there are lots of people that like this modern look, but it had such charm and a real Mexican vibe about it before. The pool area has completely been ripped out and replaced with three rectangular pools that resemble something out of Majorca or Benidrom. The chilled, relaxing vibe had been replaced with loud music round the pools, heavy drinking and again that Benidrom feeling. Now if that’s your thing then this hotel will be perfect for you if you like the party atmosphere, we were hoping for a more relaxing time unfortunately. Have to say that the staff are magnificent and work so hard. Food is great but not 5 star quality have to say. Night time entertainment is nothing like it was 15 years ago. Back then most nights had a quality show but now it’s been replaced with karaoke, silent disco and every Friday every Riu hotel in the area descends here for the big Riu party nights. Which is practically a massive rave. Now again if this is your thing then great, you’ll love it. Just not for us. Overall we wouldn’t come back and is miss the old tequila, it’s lost its charm and Mexican feel and is trying obviously to appeal to a more younger party focused crowd. Not the luxury resort hotel it once was and is probably sitting around an average 4 star and absolutely not the 5 star they advertise it to be

  This is the first time in Tequila been twice to Yucatan before I was disappointed with the a l a carte restaurants

  Excellent staff especially Veronica in lobby bar Andy and Polo in restaurant and our housekeeper Neima especially the towel figures and all staff seem very friendly and helpful

  Very basic, not five star

  Definitely not five star mould in bathroom shower a dribble have to stand against the wall light switch falling apart very basic

  Best hotel ever!!!!

  We came for my mums 50th and wow. The atmosphere of this hotel was amazing and everyone was just so kind and respectful to you. At the pool there were activities every day. Although i didn’t participate in many i loved watching them. The pools were perfect although sun loungers were quite hard to get unless you went early. But if you asked one of the people around the pool they were more than happy to get more sun loungers for you. The beach was very close just through a little alley way which took us about 3-5 minutes to walk to the beach. There was always a man there to take you on a little golf cart though which would be helpful if you struggle with walking. The beach was lovely although we went in the sargassum season. This didn’t stop us from going in though i have to say. The rooms were lovely! We had 2 of the standard double rooms which were lovely although i do have one complaint about them. there was no door to the bathroom which was quite annoying. I shared with my brother so we had to leave the room when the other was in the shower but it wasn’t a problem. we asked reception to put a shower curtain up which they did almost straight away. The cleaners were amazing and there was no fault with them. The beds were very comfortable and large which were nice. The food was amazing, we went to the buffet most nights which was amazing. It did change up a bit but it was similar stuff all the time which i liked. The restaurants were amazing and you could go as many times as you liked. they were busy sometimes but not all the time. The parties were very energetic and lively which was excellent creating an amazing atmosphere. The foam party was my personal favourite although i may have gotten hit in the head by a large inflatable ball a few times. The other hotels were nice but i definitely thought that tequila was the nicest out of them! All of the staff were amazing and understanding.I would definitely bring lots of suncream as i got very burnt on the first day in the pool which was very painful. I would absolutely go back in a heartbeat. One of my favourite holidays i have been on!

  Amazing riu tequila

  Went to the tequila may our second time room 2216 had an amazing time can't fault anything love the animals .can't say enough about this hotel just fantastic all round all staff are lovely we will be back 2028 .
