    Amazing hotel!

Where to start.. The hotel its self was perfect I couldn’t fault it and the stay I had. The room were very spacious and the beds super comfy and we even had alcoholic optics in the room with a full stocked fridge which was updated every day if needed. Download the RIU app on your phone to ask for anything you need and they sort it out as soon as they can! Bar areas were good, pools were big and fun. Entertainment team worked so hard through the day and were very engaging an willing to chat. Drinks were very strong if your into your alcohol and made really nice too. The sports bar was fantastic too as it’s open 24.7 and they also have snacks available all day at the back. The bar staff in there were fantastic so props to them all! Always made sure we had a drink in front of us. Lots to get involved with in the evenings including party once a week (either a neon party or an all white party) where all the RIU hotels come together. Beach is a short walk away or if you wait someone will transport you every few minutes to and from. If you are a beach person do your research depending the month you want to go about sargassum (dead coral washing up on shore) I went in end of September and it was still there but clearing up so if you want to miss that best to go maybe November-April I got told. Other than that it’s perfect! Be careful booking trips in the centre too, do research about prices as not always the first person who approaches you has the best price. Can’t wait to return one day here!

Definitely not a five star hotel

Definitely not a 5 star hotel. If your looking for a chilled holiday this is not the hotel for you.. this is the party hotel we’re every Friday 2 and half thousand people from other hotels c one for a party. The bed sheets didn’t get changed in the 10 days we were there and neither did the floor get brushed or mopped. We purposely left things around which was never moved in 10 days. Don’t think I would go to another Rui hotel again.

    Winter vacation in the sun

Great 14 night stay. Could not fault the service. Food was better than anticipated with something to find every time. Tried the specialty restaurants and all good. Steak restaurant was our favourite. Nice short walk to the beach. Spent a couple of days in Playa Cara

    Disappointing stay at Riu Tequila

Beautiful resort, modern and clean rooms. Grounds full of palm trees and very well kept. Beach 10 min walk on a nice path. The food is the weak link. Buffet huge, food overcooked, salty and oily. It is loud with too many tables that are close together. Staff work hard and fast but always changing and banging dishes. Specialty restaurants, Italian quite good but Bamboo a let down. Who can't make a noodle? At buffet one waiter walked to our table holding USD to signal expected a tip. Drinks taste like they have no alcohol. Entertainment average. One excellent singer who did both Spanish and English songs. Would not return.

Beautiful Resort, but too loud for us.

We stayed at Riu Tequila in a standard room from January 6-15. Pros: 1. Gorgeous resort and weather 2. Beautiful Beach 3. Comfortable/spacious room, although bed is kind of hard if that matters to you. Also, it's two double size beds that are pushed together to form one bed. The balcony is very nice. It didn't matter to us, but the bathroom area is not private at all. There is no door except to the toliet. I think this may matter to some people. Also worth noting that there are really no channels to choose if you speak english only,(most channels are spanish speaking), we found 3 that weren't anything we would watch. 4. The vendors on the beach were very few and not pushy at all. 5. The staff were awesome, helpful, friendly, engaging and kind. 6. This is a very clean resort, housekeeping was so good, as were the grounds crew. Always working and keeping everything clean and beautiful. Cons: 1. Food was just average. I don't recommend the steakhouse at all. The italian place was decent. Most of the dining is buffet. 2. The noise level is very high. There was no quiet anywhere...the pools are all right next to each other, so all the really loud booming music and staff on microphones were as if they were at whichever pool you chose. We could always hear all this noise in our room, so I definitely recommend bringing a white noise machine. You can hear right through the walls in the room to other people's rooms as well. We were awakened several times in the wee hours of the morning by our neighbors banging on the door (sounded like someone was locked out and could not get the attention of the people in the room) and people talking and yelling in our building and outside on the walkways very late at night, we're talking 2am. This is not my idea of a relaxing retreat. If someone is watching tv in the room next to you, you will hear it right through the wall. 3. The coati (Caribbean raccoons) were everywhere, witnessed many people feeding them even though there are signs everywhere saying not to. They attempt and many times succeed in getting up on to your table while you are sitting there eating your food in the outdoor venues. 4. The smoking areas are not enforced at all, people were smoking everywhere. 5. Having researched reviews before we left, I thought the beach would be a 5-10 minute walk, but it was a solid 15 minutes from our room. It's 10 minutes to walk there from the reception area. You can take the shuttle to the beach, but it doesn't fit very many people and you usually can't get on the first one, which means about a 20 minute wait in total until it comes back again. All in all, we had a nice time and made the best of it. The resort and staff were lovely, but the cons are enough to keep me personally from rebooking. If you want a loud party vibe this is the place for you.
