Good Infrastructure, Uneven Service
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for five days and overall we liked it. The infrastructure is good, with around 6–7 pools offering different vibes, so you can relax under the sun depending on your mood. The front desk staff was friendly; however, the service at the bars and buffet restaurants was disappointing. In our experience, staff were often not very polite toward Latin American guests. Getting a table for breakfast or lunch was difficult, as tables seemed to be reserved mainly for American guests, and the service noticeably improved only if you tipped. The same applied at the bars, where it sometimes took quite a while to get a drink. On the positive side, the hotel offers various activities to keep guests entertained, which we appreciated. We also liked the location, as it is not too close to the most crowded resort areas. The quality of the food and drinks is okay, with local dishes being the best option. However, if you are looking for a strong gastronomic experience, this is not the place to stay.

Experience was not great
The room was ok, but the sheets looked dirty. The shower water smelled like a sewage. Every time we called the help desk they were never an answer. The taxi driver’s were always great. Food was good, but not much to pick from. My husband and I will never come to this resort again.

Over all, a never going back there again report (from group of 17)
Let me start by saying the employees were all so very nice/kind and doing their jobs. Our room was nice. Older but very clean. 1st floor behind sports bar. It could be updated and there was a little mold at the AC vent. Our group of 17 had varying reports. Several changed rooms due to mold or broken things in the rooms AC. As a former restaurant owner I watch food practices, everywhere. I saw food not being rotated. Filled from the front= old food sitting long hours in open refrigeration units. In the restaurants the food was made to order and kept at better temps. hot/ cold. If food in the buffet was steaming or on ice it maintained the right temps. Of our 17, 11 had food poisoning or diarrhea. I personally spent 2.5 days in my room on the toilet holding a trash can. Sicker than I have ever been in my life. No phones in the rooms work. I hailed a cleaner, she sent someone with a phone that didn't work either. If I needed medical attention it could have gone differently. I just read that the RIU in Africa had a woman die from food? virus? contamination? We spoke to several others who had the same ailments. Honestly, I saw 2 young women, trashed being served alcohol to the point they fell on the floor. Employees helped them to seats and no longer offered other than water. Over served by all accounts. It was then that I found out a young woman disappeared from that lounge last year. 2 young women also drowned lst year. This is not the RIU reputation I'd like to share. We had been to a family RIU resort last year and it was fine.PS if you do go to this RIU the Jerk Chicken is outstanding. The grounds and pools are great.

If you want luxury, pick a different resort chain.
I think if you understand going in, that Riu resorts are budget 2 to 3 star resorts you will enjoy your trip. The adults only Riu resorts are for partying. There are no extra amenities or luxury at all! Riu Republica is a typical Riu resort. Nothing fancy. It definitely needs some upgrading, especially the rooms. Food was decent, nothing too amazing. Most restaurants are buffet style. The omelet station at breakfast was the best! The guys serving outside for breakfast went above and beyond every single morning to get us a table and had our drinks waiting by the time we grabbed our food, they were awesome! Cleanliness needs to be improved throughout, someone dropped a bun on the ground outside, and it remained there for 4 days. We got "clean" sheets once that were stained badly. There were no drink servers at any pool we sat at. There was always a bar close, but you needed to get your own drinks. If you expect budget, you'll love it. If you want service, amenities and luxury, book a different resort chain.

Decent
Food was not good, room service was terrible, room was not in the best condition. Shower didn’t drain, never got mini bar alcohol refilled. No washcloths, no robes.
