  OK for the price

  Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were outdated. Food was ok but nothing special. Pools were nice and beach was decent. Rooms were loud at night with music playing too late into the evening.

  Honest & Detailed Review – Read Before Booking

  I am currently staying at Riu Republica in a Standard ground-floor room. This review is written factually and objectively to help future travelers decide whether this hotel matches their expectation. Major Issue – Plumbing Failure & Safety Risk On the second night of our stay ,the shower hot water could not be shut off from the control. When the main valve was open, hot water ran uncontrollably, filling the entire room with steam and water. The floor became extremely slippery and unsafe. We contacted reception immediately. The same technician came multiple times and repeatedly stated the issue was “fixed.” However, the only action taken was shutting off the main hot water valve, which left the room without hot water entirely. That is not a repair — it is a temporary shut-off. At one point, reception was told that the flooding occurred because we did not turn off the shower. This is incorrect. The issue was that the shower control itself was defective and could not be turned off. We were initially told the hotel was fully booked and no room change was possible although we indicated the safety concern and service delivery failure. Only after escalating the matter and filing a complaint with Sunwing were we moved the following day. Room Change Handling & Inconsistency The following day, I spoke with another guest who mentioned he was able to change rooms immediately because his room was too close to the stage and noisy. He said he paid an additional $20 to facilitate the change. Meanwhile, despite having a documented plumbing failure and safety concern, we were initially denied relocation due to “full booking.” When we went to change rooms the next day, I observed many other guests lined up at reception requesting room changes. This indicated that room movement was possible. The handling of our case felt inconsistent and dismissive of both safety concerns and guest experience. Cleanliness Bed linens appear washed but frequently show visible stains. Public restrooms are outdated and not very clean. Floors in public areas are often dirty. The buffet sometimes has a strong chemical cleaning odor. Additionally, flies are frequently present in dining areas. Mosquitoes are also a noticeable issue, especially in the evenings. Ground-floor rooms in particular seem more exposed. Guests who are sensitive to insect bites should be prepared. Noise & Smoking Entertainment areas are very close to Standard room buildings. Noise continues until approximately 11:30pm nightly. After midnight, loud guests are common, and there appears to be minimal enforcement. There are no clearly enforced no-smoking areas. Indoor smoking appears common and unmanaged. If you are sensitive to smoke, this may be uncomfortable. Facilities Bathrooms and room fixtures feel outdated. Ground-floor rooms may experience higher humidity. Food & Restaurant Staff Food quality is actually good. Although restaurant variety is limited, meals are well prepared. Restaurant staff are generally friendly and professional. Front Desk & Maintenance Restaurant staff were pleasant and helpful. However, front desk handling of serious issues was disappointing, and maintenance responses felt temporary rather than solution-oriented. Final Thoughts If you are looking for a high-energy, party-focused environment and do not mind noise, smoke, insects, and an older property, this hotel may suit you — especially food quality here is really good(except flies). If you are seeking a clean, well-managed, quiet, and refined vacation experience, I would strongly recommend reconsidering. Based on this experience, I would not return.

  My Stay was Amazing

  Upon arrival the hospitality was excellent, the staff throughout the resort was superb. The grounds, outdoor activities, entertainment, restaurants and the beach was awesome.

  The staff is wonderful here. The accommodations are good. We enoyed the food. Beach is spectacular. Water is rough.

  Lots of sun and fun!

  This was our 2nd trip to Riu Republica. We made friends with Cruz the waiter at the breakfast buffet. He was so sweet and personable. He greeted us each morning with a smile. 😊 It people like Cruz that makes our trip special.
