perfect stay at Riu Republica
We recently returned from our stay at the Riu Republic. We found our stay excellent. The beach is a short walk away. The beach is well-maintained and beautiful—the most beautiful of all the beaches in Punta Cana we've ever walked on. The hotel is a party place, but if you're looking for peace and quiet (like us), you'll find it. At the reception desk, we requested a room in a quieter area of the hotel, and that's what we got. There are many places where you can enjoy peace and quiet in the evenings, such as near the ocean. The food was excellent, and the service also met our expectations; the staff were very kind, helpful, open, and smiling. The Riu Hotels app is a great solution, allowing you to send requests, report problems, and communicate with the front desk. We've communicated this way several times, and our requests or problems were resolved very quickly. We'd happily go back. It's really not worth relying on the extremely negative reviews online.

Typical RIU Experience
This was our second trip to a RIU resort and our eighth trip to the Dominican Republic. This is truly a three star resort. The rooms are average and could use some TLC (A/C thermostat was stuck on, the shower head needed to be replaced and the door jamb was almost completely shattered) but the bed was comfortable and housekeeping was excellent (special requests were filled quickly). The pools and the beach were both great (some areas had unnecessarily LOUD music), the events crew were fun and engaging and the bars/bartenders were very good but needed the occasional encouragement to be generous with the alcohol. Buffet for all meals, I feel, was above average (the roast beef at dinner one evening was tender and flavorful) and the staff gave out high fives and fist bumps like everyone was best friends! Specialty restaurants were good (Kaori for Chinese, Kullinarium for Mediterranean). Tarantella for Italian was average at best (better pizza than the buffet). The steak houses (Quesquaya and The Steakhouse) needed reservations which were an absolute nightmare!!!! Reservation’s needed to be made in person (5:30 pm and 5 pm respectively) for seatings at 6 pm, 7:15 pm and 8:30 pm. Some nights there were lines 50 deep and other nights there were 5 people in line …. just an unnecessary hassle and a waste of time. My advice is dress for dinner and head to Quesquaya at 5:45 pm as the 6 pm seating was never busy. Overall it was a great vacation as the resort never seemed crowded, the weather was great and so was the staff .

RIU stay
The food could be better. It was just average. The rooms could be updated to separate the shower and sink from the rest of the room.
