If you want luxury, pick a different resort chain.
I think if you understand going in, that Riu resorts are budget 2 to 3 star resorts you will enjoy your trip. The adults only Riu resorts are for partying. There are no extra amenities or luxury at all! Riu Republica is a typical Riu resort. Nothing fancy. It definitely needs some upgrading, especially the rooms. Food was decent, nothing too amazing. Most restaurants are buffet style. The omelet station at breakfast was the best! The guys serving outside for breakfast went above and beyond every single morning to get us a table and had our drinks waiting by the time we grabbed our food, they were awesome! Cleanliness needs to be improved throughout, someone dropped a bun on the ground outside, and it remained there for 4 days. We got "clean" sheets once that were stained badly. There were no drink servers at any pool we sat at. There was always a bar close, but you needed to get your own drinks. If you expect budget, you'll love it. If you want service, amenities and luxury, book a different resort chain.

Decent
Food was not good, room service was terrible, room was not in the best condition. Shower didn’t drain, never got mini bar alcohol refilled. No washcloths, no robes.

Great place to escape for a week
We wanted an escape from the arctic snowy winter and were lucky enough to choose this place. They have much to offer and we took advantage of many entertainment events, couples massage and island excursions. Warmly recommended

Went for a girls trip. We are all about 50. We knew it was a “party resort” so just keep that in mind. The good: Our room was generally quiet,#205. The drinks were good. Although not a huge selection. The pools were fun The jerk chicken stand was awesome! Most of the staff was engaging - especially the lobby bar servers The shower head was amazing and never ran out of hot water The sports bar has sandwiches to grab for excursion and 24 hour snacking The bed was comfortable Loved the blackout curtains The not so good: Took 3 days to get an extra blanket and never got a functioning coffee pot Had issues with room ac but we managed The bathroom sink did not drain well The food was average at best, usually cold. Not as clean (rooms and grounds) as other all inclusives i have stayed at. House keeping yells up and down the halls starting around 7-8am Please check your patio doors are locked upon arrival. Neither mine nor my friends room was locked upon arrival. And every time housekeeping left, they never relocked it (we were on ground floor) I think you get what you pay for. We had fun overall but I wouldn’t go back. Just not my vibe.
