What We Love

  • No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.
  • The palm-tree studded & crystal white-sand beach that's kissed by teal waves.
  • The boxy, white chic look of the resort and the sleek, hip rooms. It's rock-star cool.
  • RiuLand for kids ages 4-7 and 8-12, as well as a children's pool and play area.
  • Complimentary use of gym facilities, including the on-site sauna. Vacay is the time to purify.
  • Hanging out at the Jacuzzi poolside and letting the stress leave your body.

Things to Know

  • Approximately 90 miles from the airport to the resort.
  • Dive into kayaking, windsurfing or the on-site aquagym.
  • Check out the amazing snorkeling opportunities as well as scuba lessons in the pool. Take the plunge.
  • You can grab a game of volley ball or table tennis, or hit the fitness center for an intensive workout.
  • The shows, live music, disco or cocktails under the moonlight are epic.
When you first step foot on this expansive haven by the sea, you'll probably be speechless. The natural beauty of the palms that dot the pearly white beach and the turquoise waves that greet you are just half of this heavenly equation. The water and land sports, gourmet cuisine and crazy fun nightlife will take things to the next level. You'll be loving life and living large. You can't miss this.

It's Time to Get Your Riu On.

    beautiful view of the sea

I was here in Riu de Playa Blanca for 1 month, the activities offered are pool service, restaurant and bar service, beach activities, the servers were very good, what I liked the most was the room with the sea view, i would go back because it was a good experience and i enjoyed with my mother.

    Sister's Trip March 2020

Let's start with the 3 hour trip from airport to hotel. Had room service sweep and repair toilet upon arrival to room. The resort is very far from everything. No other resorts are around, no restaurants, clubs, nothing. Because there are no other amenities around, the staff put on sorry and sad shows nightly. Don't even think there was a club open. If so, we never found it. Our biggest problem was the dark water and muddy sand. On their website and in brochures, they picture turquoise waters, white sand. This resort water and sand was so bad, no one participated in water sports, and there were no beach chairs set out. They do not tell nor show that the resort is located on the Pacific side, which is the volcanic side. Ergo the dark waters, dark muddy sand and low tides. The three pools were always crowded. Had to get up very early to claim spots. Always luke warm or near cold food. Had to cut mozzarella sticks with knife and fork.

New Adventure which turned out great

I am going to start to say that we went on March Break before the full-blown outbreak of COVID-19. As the week went on the Tourist Police shut down the beach, pool, bars, disco, theater, no day trips, and a la carte restaurant. We flew into Rio Hato airport which is small but very convenient as the drive was only 10 mins. Group of 23 people Sunwing gave us all a packet for check-in, the only issue was they only had French pamphlets and no English. On arrival to the hotel we were directed to the center of the lobby, they had 5 people checking in a guest which made it quick. Our room was ready but the rest of our group had to wait until after 3 PM This hotel is small so it was easy to find anything you needed. The food was good, we went to the Steak house a couple of times and it was good. The cheese sticks were amazing so we went a couple of times so just get them to take to the buffet. Beach (when it was open) was beautiful, black sand and hot. We walked as far as we could and it was nice every morning. Pools - they were nice and warm. We seen them cleaning them daily and testing the water. Food - Buffet was good- if you can't find something to eat you are picky, A la Carte- Steak house was great , didn't try Asian , the Italian was good as per a couple of people in our group. Bars - Most of the bartenders were nice and friendly. There was one bartender that would not serve non-locals which were frustrating. The bartender was Domi, he would go above and beyond to his customers Little Markets - the prices were what you expected Lobby Staff - were ok, could be more personnel but the dealing is ok. Since we didn't have the full experience due to COVID-19 we look forward to going back to try this place out.

    Amazing once again

Beautiful resort, friendly people, great food especially at the Italian. Very clean, security at pools keep things running smoothly. There are 4 pools. One swim up which is where I spent most of my time, they have a great kids pool with slides and sprinklers. Entertainment every night the dancers are amazing and very talented different show every night. Drinks are always made the same no surprises. Walked the beach every day it is a public beach and the tide is out in the mornings so flat and easy to walk on. Tide comes in around 5pm. Did not swim in the ocean as I heard there were a lot of jellyfish. It is only 7 minutes from the airport which I like more time at the pool. 😁 This is my second time to this resort and I will definitely be returning.

Nice place, poor service, staff not friendly, same food all week. Alacart restaurants not much better. Did not stock in room fridge. Very little nightly entertainment. Did not put fresh towels in room daily.
