I already spent happy one week in 2017. I moved to Panama and now it would be my favorite place for weekends on th ebeach.

Jun 09, 2025Great place for a quick disconnect
My girlfriend and I wanted something easy and worry-free experience. We resorted to this place and we enjoyed a lot. We cannot say much of the drinks because we don't enjoy alcohol, but generally speaking we had everything we need in terms of food choices and drinks availability. The room was pretty quiet and had everything we needed, we had a great rest. There is only two things that I would say it can improve: - The traps in the room's bathroom gave off strong odors and made us uncomfortable (we could cover them, but it was still uncomfortable) - There was some unpleasant taste on the water offered by the hotel in general. I tasted this on several carbonated water dispensing machines (as well as in the bartenders) and in the water the restaurant staff poured. Other than that, we enjoyed the stay a lot.

FIRST STAY
"This was my first stay at a RIU property, and overall, it was a very pleasant experience. However, the hotel would benefit from having more bilingual staff, as communication can be difficult when only the managers speak English. Additionally, the resort's two-hour drive from the airport is quite lengthy and worth considering."

Great Getaway
The hotel was amazing and the service was very, very good. The name of the hotel is a bit deceptive because even though it is named "Playa Blanca" or "white beach", the beach is NOT white. When we were there the beach was dark to black. We were told that this is because the area is rich in iron, thus the color. There is not much to do outside the hotel, so that is why I rated the location portion of this review as average. On the plus side, you don't have to ever leave the hotel as it is all-inclusive and it really is all-inclusive. They provided music, fun and food almost 24/7. The only thing you have to pay for is $5 for the use of the pool table. I took a star away from the rooms rating because our room had a particular smell that didn't affect our stay, but was noticeable enough for me to comment on it. We did not mention it to the staff though, so it was mostly on us. Most impressed by one of the employees - Maricruz. She was working in the restaurant, I think it was the Balboa restaurant (can't recall the name of the particular one). She went out of her way to provide us with great service.

Returning Home
We lived in Playa Blanca for several years, and staying at Riu Playa Blanca is like coming home. The well-maintained facility is only outdone by the attentive staff.
