    Quick, Memorable Holiday Weekend at RIU Palace Tropical Bay

    Long story short: Stay here. The service, food, and ambiance are great, and the people are welcoming and friendly, to boot. A friend and I traveled to RIU PTB in April of 2019 for a quick Thursday-Monday trip. We arrived on Thursday at around 2:30. and were able to check-in to our room upon arrival. We opted to have lunch before going to our room, and the friendly bellhop just told us to let him know when we were ready to go to our room. The room was clean and quaint, and my friend enjoyed the in-room liquor on tap. The food was good - the best I'd ever had at an all-inclusive resort. We mainly ate at the buffet and Krystal (the fusion restaurant), and we weren't disappointed. The jerk station on the beach was VERY good, and a nice touch. The entertainment was GREAT! They kept guests engaged, and definitely enhanced the quality of our stay. Chocolate Thunder was the absolute best. We also booked a trip to Mayfield Falls directly through the hotel, and it was quick and east. So in summary - stay here. I'm looking forward to a return trip in the near future.

    Amazing Family Holiday

    I visited this resort with my partner and daughter at the beginning of the year (28 Jan - 11 Feb 20). I use to come to this resort as a teenager and I was very excited to be returning with a family of my own but I was also apprehensive whether it would live it to my expectations.... and it certainly DID!!! The day we landed there had been an earthquake but that didn’t stop our bus drivers high spirits who entertained us all the way to the resort (it did take a very long time). Check in was the quickest I have ever seen. Greeted with a smile and a cocktail and shown to our room. Now for the Pros and Cons: Cons: - The room was a great size. Ideal for the 3 of us. However, before arriving at the hotel I had requested a bed guard for my 2 year old daughter. When we arrived there wasn’t one in our room and we were told the hotel didn’t provide them. If they had emailed me back and told me this, I would of bought one with me. Although the room was huge and spacious, I did feel it lacked storage for a family of 3 who were staying for 14 nights, so it was a bit of a squeeze in the drawers/wardrobes. - The A La Carte restaurants: These are not advertised as “adult only” so thought it would be nice to try a few. They do provide high chairs, so thought they would be “family friendly” however there are no children’s options on any of the menus. I think adding a small section onto the menu would be great as it is nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the buffet a few nights while your on holiday so you can all enjoy a sit down meal together as a family. Pros: - The resort was SPOTLESS. The staff work so hard to upkeep it all. - The beach is perfect and the sea is so calm and clear. It’s like a picture from a postcard. I’m not a beachy person but I still went down every day and had a dip. Which is saying a lot! - The buffet was the best I’ve ever been to in an AI resort. So much choice/variety and always warm. After dieting all Christmas for our holiday both me and my partner gained a load of weight while staying here lol. The staff in the restaurants are also amazing. We sat in the same section each morning and have to say a massive thank you to Damo and super Mario who provided amazing service each day!! - The Animation Team: These guys and girls are amazing and work so hard all day. I would like to say a massive thank you to Bubbles for letting our little girl come to kids club each day and putting on the children disco each night (even if she was the only one there lol). I would also like to give a shout out to Buttercup who was also amazing and helped entertain our daughter by dancing with her all night. Spotlight and chocolate were also rockstars who helped make our holiday so memorable. - Evening shows: Every night we were entertained and did feel there was a great variety. The things that stood out to us was the reggae night and the steel band called “Silver Birds”. - We did 2 trips while we were there. The first was a catamaran trip. We visited a reef, a cave, Ricks Cafe and Margaritaville. We also went to Dolphin Cove. Both trips were amazing and would highly recommend to anyone. We had a fantastic holiday and want to thank every single person at the resort. I have used the word “amazing” a lot during this review... and that isn’t an exaggeration, it really is how I would sum up my holiday. I hope all the staff are safe and well during this uncertain time... and can’t wait to come back and see you all again!!

    Loved Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay

    My husband and I (late 30’s) stayed at Riu Palace Tropical Bay from March 1st – March 8th.   We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return.  Here are some of the highlights: -Warm greeting by staff upon arrival and quick check-in.  -For the most part staff were all friendly and happy. -The beach is incredible, with very little wind.  So nice to be able to peddle boat, kayak, and Stand Up Paddleboard every day (we didn’t use the Hobie Cats).  Also, there are plenty of loungers (and they are comfortable) on the beach, so no need to be up at 5:30 to ensure a spot on the beach. -At the pool/beach bar we had great service, but exceptionally friendly service from Demar and Kereisha.  These two were our favourites! -The entertainment team all have incredible energy and help made the vacation much more enjoyable.  We thought Spotlight was very hardworking and hilarious, seriously, this guy deserves a raise!  He’s always up to something to keep guests entertained. -The buffet had a great selection every day and we found the food well prepared and tasty. -Our room was very clean and spacious. -The sunsets in Negril are to die for – so beautiful!   Some things that could just make it that much better: -We found the pillows that were provided were not very comfortable. -We found the A la cartes a little disappointing (found the food in the buffet better). -Would love to see a little more variation for the nightly shows. These are just minor issues, that we just felt could send the hotel to the next level. We can’t wait to return!!!! Jacqueline and Stuart Bagley New Brunswick, Canada

    RIU...took our money, Story Time!

    I've had this review in the drafts for quite some time, and now that we have some time during quarantine I'm ready to write. Before I get to THE STORY, I'll review the actual hotel. There was barely anyone under the age of 50. The restaurants didn't serve enough food, and everyone afterwards went to the buffet that has pretty good food. Just go to the buffet instead. The entertainment is pretty weak. Its young Jamaicans singing Elvis. Why? On to the story. Well, this being my first all inclusive, I can say, this might be my last, and it could have been the first of many had RIU just acted appropriately. So what happened, this being my first all inclusive I booked a room and because I usually don't pay attention to the number of travelers because I'm booking 1 room, I didn't notice that the room was booked for 1 person and not 2. My wife and I get to the resort, and , we were told there was only one person on the reservation and there needed to be two. I said, "no problem add another and we can check in." The price they hit us with was $950. That day, if you went online and plugged in 2 people into their site for the same dates and room, it wouldn't been just $500 extra. We asked, why couldn't they rebook us under two people. We were told they don't do reservations at the resort, LOL (but somehow they could add my wife to the reservation lol). Anyway, we were told that some guests have been refunded the difference when the issue was settled with the travel agency. We called the agency, and they said RIU was closed and they will handle it the next day. Expedia was able to get a hold of RIU after the third day and were told "the guests already paid for the additional person." Of course we did, or we wouldn't have been able to stay and lost the initial money we paid. We tried a few more times and this was the only response we got. RIU played dumb. Paying $500 extra, when that was the price of the hotel online, fine. But paying $950 is absurd. Oh well, I'll never go to another RIU resort again.

    Another wonderful visit

    My wife and I visited the Riu Palace Tropical Bay for the 8th time this March We have taken one or both of our daughters and their families every time. We love the resort, the staff and the beach and ocean. We are treading water in the ocean twice a day for an hour each time. We have got to know some of your staff and a special shout out to Mario our favourite waiter and Andre the omelette maker. On our first morning we could see Mario waving to us from 50 meters away as we walked towards the restaurant for breakfast. He has entertained our grand-children with tricks in the past and we consider him a good friend. My wife and Andre sing "You are my sunshine" together every morning. We also want to compliment Shanile on the front desk who got us exactly the room we wanted. We cut our trip short this year because of the pandemic and left March 18 after only 5 days. We were sorry to leave but felt we had to get back home. Our thoughts and prayers are with the staff during this time. It is hard for them and we count so many as friends after 8 visits. I hope business returns to normal before too long and we can come and see you next year at our favourite resort.
