Not a Riu Palace
This hotel does not deserve to be added to the Palace brand. The beach is beautiful the hotel provide lots of sun loungers, however they need jet washing they’re filthy, there’s plenty of shade available, the beach is tree lined if you head away from the pool area of the hotel you can find a peaceful area away from the consistent loud booming music. Pools - The water in the swim up bar is awful , all sorts of things lurk in its depths, the bar area is far too noisy with booming music and staff shouting down the microphone, the coffee machine behind the bar doesn’t work and still doesn’t work while I write this review. The Lads who work the bar are hard working, friendly & happy, the quality of the grog served is relatively good. Many people think vaping and smoking is acceptable even though there are prohibited signs up around the pools/grounds none of the staff deal with this and allow this to happen. This led to several hotel guests having uncomfortable discussions, not what you want or need on your vacation. Food buffet - We’re on day 11 and I’ve had enough the buffet is repetitive with lukewarm warm food, you cannot even get a hot bowl of soup, the bread selection is very poor. The waiting staff work hard most are friendly and helpful. A la Carte - Steak house service is dragged out and very slow I guess that’s because everyone tips up at the same time. Crystal - Was lovely although they didn’t have lamb on the menu on both visits. Italian - Isn’t worth the calories or your time. Japanese - Service was good but it just misses quality and wasn’t for us. Rooms - our room is tired fixtures & fittings are worn out it is in desperate need of an upgrade to a the rain Palace Standards. Our balcony is small and dangerous when it rains, there is considerable road noise, house keeping are noisy shouting at each other early in the morning you cannot sleep in due to that, with that said the house keeping standard in fairness is very good. Reception - Staff are not helpful or friendly, what’s the point in having an app when it either doesn’t work or requests just get ignored. Lobby Bar - What’s the point paying a premium for a Palace resort when you have to queue for drink service. Generally the bar has one very friendly, hard working individual working tirelessly while her Manager (Lisa) leans against the bar or hides behind the coffee bar leaning leaving the waitresses to stand out in the lobby chatting to each other all night. This Manager gives the impression of being work shy and relies on her staff to do all the work. My wife ordered a coffee from her, received the wrong order and when she mentioned it to Lisa she was told “That’s what YOU ordered”. Needless to say, she won’t go to her to get served now. We completely swerve that bar now as we feel uncomfortable. The servers are not being directed properly and seem unhappy around her. If I wanted to queue for a drink at the bar I could’ve saved a lot of money by not booking a palace and stayed at the RIU Negril.

Wonderful vacation at RIU
Our recent stay at RIU Palace Tropical Bay Negril was truly delightful! The highlight was undoubtedly the amazing beach, it's part of the famous 7-mil beach with white sand and clear water perfect for relaxation and swimming. The hotel itself is nicely maintained, reflecting a commitment to guest comfort, and its location is excellent, offering both tranquility and accessibility. For those seeking adventure, the watersports options were a fantastic bonus, providing plenty of fun activities. Dining was a pleasure, especially the Steakhouse restaurant, which served up an excellent culinary experience. The main buffet also impressed with its many items and good quality, and we particularly savored the very sweet and juicy mangoes – a true tropical treat! RIU Palace Tropical is an excellent option for a a memorable Jamaican getaway.

Perfect beach, horrible service
The beach is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. However, the service is a COMPLETE disaster. Only front desk were kind and servicial.

Luxurious treat!
Had an amazing stay here with my family. The staff do an incredible job of being welcoming and keeping things at a high standard. The food is delicious and I am particularly impressed by the ever changing offer of Jamaican cuisine in the Negril restaurant where there were also international options. It was wonderful to have so many options. My husband and I loved how easy it was to book in the other restaurants and it felt like such a treat. We were here for 2 weeks and never got bored with the food as there was so much to choose from. The hotel leads straight onto the beach and this was the highlight for us. Gorgeous pale sand and crystal clear sea awaited us every day and we could see beautiful fish swimming in the water. Jamaica has so much to offer in terms of nature and wild life so we enjoyed spotting sea life, plants, trees including stingrays, hummingbirds and coconut trees. It’s worth leaving the resort to get more experience of Jamaica. We recommend walking to 7 mile beach. Non motorised water sports are included and were great fun. It rained most afternoons and we enjoyed swimming in the rain however we also made the most of the sunny weather by going out at sunrise (around 5.30am) as it was warm, had the luxury of having most of the beach to ourselves and have the peaceful sound of the sea before hustlers arrive to sell things and music is played by the hotel at 10am. Bring an insulated water bottle as there are water dispensers and ice available across the resort which we enjoyed to keep hydrated in between delicious cocktails.
