Second time in a Riu Palace and glad to say it met my expectations.food in general was of a high quality with ample choice although the steakhouse was a bit of a let down with a very chewy fillet steak. More attention also needed to clear up plates left in hallways by guests. One plate appeared to have been left for at least 2 days.

Fabulous
Absolutely amazing. The staff are so attentive from Lile at reception, Grace at the lobby bar and Carlos at breakfast, they can't do enough to make your stay perfect. This Riu is a real palace !!!

Family reunion , the beach is not clean we couldn’t go to the beach the entire trip , playa del Carmen is covered by seaweed , mountains of it and the smell gets all the way to the pools , the service is very good , very friendly and willing to help , food could be better , the resort itself is very clean , the rooms are nice and clean but the ac systems are old and makes a lot of noise hard to sleep during the night

DO NOT RECOMMEND! Came for a family reunion and we all (14ppl) voted not to return. Save your family the frustration and drama by not booking here. First, avoid “Destination Services” for your travel to/from the airport. We wait for ages to even board the shuttle and then it took 1hr, 20mins to do a 45min drive. The driver didn’t say 2 words the entire time, handed us our bags and drove off. On the return trip, we were in the lobby 30mins early. The driver drove up, took a pic of the ticket with the RIU doorman and got back in and drove off. No name was called, and he was gone in under 1 min. The RIU doorman didn’t say a word to us either. No cares given. An hour later, WE had to figure it out and were told to PAY for a taxi and TRY to get a refund. BS! At hotel, all restaurant food was at best a 3.0 and beach is utterly unusable due to literal mountains of seaweed (not their fault, but they should tell people). Best food is at the Don Raphael’s buffet, so try there if you make the mistake and book here. Lastly, outside of RIU Party (which was great), there’s zero nightlife after 9pm (no pool tables, no entertainment, just nothing). Save yourself the trouble and go to a nicer place. The rooms also get cheaper as time goes on and people read reviews/cancel, so keep calling back for a cheaper rate if you squint your eyes and book here…you’ll certainly get it, but good luck!
