Repeated satisfaction
Repeated satisfaction We were always very satisfied with our stay at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya from 2019 to 2024, so we repeated our vacation for the sixth time in February 2025. Everything was OK as always, the only change was that the beach was ruined. Overall, we evaluate it positively, the problem increases with the density of traffic from the airport to the hotel.

Warning ! Mould!
Let me begin… When we arrived on February 3 for our 10 night vacation We had two rooms 146 and 147 Pros The staff were very welcoming and the resort was beautiful ! We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet and the staff especially Ezequiel, Carlos and Gustavo who decorated our table every day for all our meals. They made us feel very special. Housekeeping was also exceptional and the towel sculptures were awesome. Thank you Victoria. We did a couple of excursions and shopping was available just down the road. We got all our souvenirs for reasonably good prices. Con We paid extra expecting a 5 star experience but we got sick instead The rooms were filled with mold which we were unaware of as shown in pictures submitted. A couple of days into the vacation My daughter told me she could smell it so we did a search and found it. By this time l was already starting to have breathing issues. I did inform the front desk numerous times and they sent someone to clean it and I had to call them again and they came and cleaned again by this time it was day seven or eight and my breathing was really starting to get bad. Then I get a phone call from the front desk and they were saying that they were going to replace the wallpaper, but it came from Spain and it would be done in a month . It was then they offered us a new rooms. by this time, our vacation was almost over and it served no purpose to change rooms. The damage was already done. Upon our departure the rooms would sadly have new occupants . The three of us have been very sick and developed mold related illnesses from the mold exposure and l alone have had three rounds of medication (prednisone and erythromycin )and am still recovering. When we left the resort and got to the airport, my condition worsened. I was in a wheelchair and could not stand up as my breathing would not allow the trip back was horrendous. My daughters were terrified at my condition. We had to use ice cloths as I was sweating profusely, could not catch my breath and at one point security came to help, but because I did not want to be stuck in a Third World country, I decided to continue. I felt helpless and scared and wanted to get home. All this because the resort had mold. I have stayed in many resorts mainly the RiuPalace. Never have I ever experienced anything like this. I expected because I pay for top rated resorts to receive top rated service and never have to worry about something like this happening. My Dr informed me that when l saw her upon my return , she was scared, very concerned and thought l was in danger of dying .My normal oxygen level is 95.and l dropped to between 82 to 86 which is dangerously low and had to use oxygen .My daughters are both on erythromycin and still recovering. This is unacceptable for a five star resort !.. This is certainly Not a Vacation to remember! In summation BEWARE of rooms 146 and 147 especially if you have a sensitivity to mold. Please note… Today is March 14/25 We are finally getting better a month later!

Great Stay, But Service Could Improve
I have stayed at five RIU hotels. The only reason I’m deducting one point from this stay is because the restaurant staff was not friendly. This was the case both in the themed restaurants and the buffet. At the buffet restaurant, a waiter once told us, "I’m going to ask you to order everything at once so I don’t have to keep going back and forth." I’m not sure if they are overworked, but their attitude was not welcoming, and it wasn’t just towards us. I even saw a girl from India take silverware from my table because her waiter wasn’t attending to her. Being kind doesn’t cost anything and makes a huge difference in the guest experience. I hope they can improve this. Other than that, the food was delicious, the rooms were super clean, and the beach was beautiful. Everything else was highly recommended!
