Another Riu success
This is our 9th visit to DR but first at this hotel. We stayed here at the beginning of March just before we were all brought home due to COVID 19. Luckily we were due to leave in any case. As to the hotel: Check in - really straight forward and quick. Polite and informative, helpful gentleman on the desk. Room - initial room had very loud air con which hubby couldn't tolerate so within 10 minutes we were transferred to another room. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. We had room 1062 which was in a lovely position overlooking the gardens. The room was always spotlessly clean and most nights the beds were turned down. The nights they weren't could be because we were late leaving the room that night. The only thing missing were the flowers and towel arrangements that we usually get in the DR. We had an issue with a leaky loo which was very speedily dealt with. Food - I am a fairly picky eater but never struggled for anything to eat. The chicken shack down by the beach at lunchtimes was an added bonus. Towards the end of our stay we noticed that the prawns and chicken wings were not so plentiful but this could be because the hotel was obviously winding down in preparation for tourists being evacuated due to COVID 19. We tried the Krystal but found the food there a little too different to be to our liking. The service in the restaurants is good and we never waited long for someone to ask us if we wanted water and a drink. By the end of our stay the waiters knew what we drank without being asked! Entertainment - We found the evening entertainment to be very disappointing. On previous stays in the DR the entertainment team have put on the evening shows and there has always been a lot of humour involved. The shows here seemed to be mainly live music or the themed party nights held on a site shared by all the hotels. Staff - considering how unstable their employment situation must be at the moment we found all the staff, without exception. to be friendly and helpful. Sunbeds - we stayed by the pools and never had a problem finding beds with shade. There seemed to be beds empty until late morning. The wait staff round the pool were really good and it didn't take long until they knew what you were drinking. In summary this hotel is typical of the high standards you can expect to find with any Riu hotel but particularly with a Palace. Would I return here - in a heartbeat but probably chose a slightly different time of year as found that over the years February / March has seemed to get a lot wetter.
An amazing place to spend your vacation
Recently, I went on vacation with my wife and kids to Riu Palace Punta Cana...right before tocoronavirus lockdown was introduced. What an amazing place! I know everyone have different taste in terms of what to expect but for me it was ever the top. Good food! Great service! Beautiful hotel and very well maintained! Clean rooms and wooden floors! The pools were not over crowded! The beach was sooo clean...no sea weed at all. 2 years ago we spent our vacation in Punta Cana, different hotel late August. We couldn’t enter the beatch because there was so much seaweed. That is seasonal of couse...not a fault of the resort. Next time, same month, we will try Riu Palace Bavaro because of my wife but I would still choose Rui Palace Punta Cana over and over. Great place!
Riu Palace Punta Cana
We made our second visit to this hotel in March 2020, and it did not disappoint. It was renovated about 18 months ago, and we were pleased with the updates. We paid for the Superior Junior suite, and as returning guests, we were given a prime location overlooking the center courtyard, equidistant from the beach and the hotel lobby. The following day when we returned to the room, it had been decorated with balloons and towel art, and a welcome package from the manager was left for us. We have also stayed at the Riu Palace Bavaro in the same complex, and the Republica further west, but this hotel is our favourite. The room was clean and well equipped to start, and housekeeping kept it that way. Our maid kept our room clean and tidy, surprised us with a new piece of towel art every day. Towels were changed twice a day, the mini bar was replenished every day. Riu Palace Punta Cana has a wide variety of dining options, including buffets for every meal, snacks available in between, and 5 themed restaurants. Krystal was our favourite, although the dinner buffet was a close second. The buffet offered beef tenderloin one night, roast turkey, pork tenderloin, roast lamb were features other nights. There was always a nice assortment of seafood from various types of fish, shrimp, oysters, clams, paella and more. For the less adventurous, there was always hamburgers, hotdogs, and fries. You’ll never go hungry here. We enjoyed the Lobby bar in the evenings for games of cards and dominoes, along with cappuccino or nightcaps. But the hotels best feature is its people. From a smooth check-in with Nathan, the housekeeping staff, the waiters at all the restaurants and bars, the barmen, and everyone else we met, we were received with smiles and treated as friends. The hotel’s 3 pools compliment the beach, and are a pleasant change on a breezy day. But the beach is prime. It is one of the best in the islands and the beach at the Riu has lots of loungers and lots of space for all - whether you want ocean side sun like us, or a shady spot under a palm. And you don’t have to be there before sunrise to get one. You can walk for miles - and we did - and you never reach the end of the sandy beach. We will be back.
Lovely Hotel with great staff but food and activities are lacking
We just arrived before all the COVID madness. The hotel is gorgeous, immaculate, the beach is gorgeous, exactly like the photos. Staff is FABULOUS they checked in on us right away fixed a broken outlet immediately. All the staff everywhere were very kind very positive just lovely!! There are a few things they need to improve on mostly the food. So the food wasn’t awful but not fabulous. The grill by the bar was good but sparse. The breakfast buffet was great, lunch was pretty good, dinner not too bad. The coffee place was fantastic! The restaurants however were just terrible. The food was often under or overcooked, taste was terrible! The sushi place was the worst the Italian anti pasta was great, but the meals not so much. The steakhouse was nice but we did not go to the Spanish or fine dining because after the third restaurant we stuck to the buffet. I would recommend the hotel use more local ingredients I was shocked that there was nothing on any menu made with coconut, the fruit was clearly not fresh, however the local dishes they did offer were delicious! I’ve been to the Caribbean many times I would rate the food as 3 star compared to other places I’ve been. The other criticism I would offer is get better beach chairs. Those lounge chairs at the beach were so uncomfortable. Also I went with teenagers so keeping them busy was a challenge there. There was little to no activities going on that they could participate in, the non motorized sports was just a catamaran they can’t even use. The excursions from Sunwing were expensive so we skipped that. The evening shows at our hotel were basically in house staff lip syncing. God bless them they did a great job but my kids had no interest. I know we were supposed to have access to other hotels which had more going on but the front desk staff had very limited English which made us hard to get a full up and down of what was available. Overall we still had a wonderful time, really the hotel itself and the staff made all the difference! Those are pics from my camera yes - it is that nice.
Great Resort Wonderful Beach
The resort was excellent, 5 star. Only issue was the location of our room which we would request to change next time. And the size of the beds. Double beds aren't ample for two people to share. Otherwise a beautiful location, excellent food, wonderful beach. My family would definitely return.
