  Riu Palace

  We loved our stay at this hotel! It has been renovated, the rooms still need a little work, i.e bathrooms and toilet. An amazing location with plenty of space. Could be more entertainment in the pool for the kids, in order for them to make friends. Other resorts offer waterpolo and games for them. The cleaners need to be a little quieter in the mornings as I was woken up at 7am a few mornings by their conversations in the corridor.

  12 days of perfection

  An excellent stay! Hotel grounds, rooms, dining areas are spotless, staff keep everything maintaining to the highest degree. Waiting/serving staff are very friendly and make you feel relaxed. Shout out to David and his pool team and Estuban in the main restaurant. Room was always cleaned to a high standard and was fresh and spacious. Nothing to complain about, but only one small change I would highlight is that the pool bar for both soft and alcoholic drinks should open at 9am rather than 10am. The teams put fresh water out but that would only be my opinion for improvement. Great stay, would recommend to all and will be looking at returning.

  Spring Break for Adults - In a bad way.

  This place is like a college spring break location built for adults. Not families. There were bugs in our room & it smelled horrible. We bought scent plug ins to try to cover it up. Activities always canceled. The on site team wouldn’t be there when an activity was to begin (water aerobics, water polo, volleyball, etc). Drunk people everywhere by lunch . Tiny gym with 20 yr old equipment and you have to walk across parking lot to get there. The housekeeping team was very kind. The food in all day dining was very good. The beach is covered with seaweed 5 months out of the year and the water is filled with it if you try to swim. Overall very disappointing. We would strongly encourage another venue.

  Amazing stay at RIU Punta Cana

  We had an amazing stay here, the staff go above and beyond for you and make the holiday very memorable and special for you. My daughter has special needs with some mobility issues and this was the perfect place for her.

  ROACHES DO NOT BOOK!

  Riu Palace is just a solid no from me. From the outside, it is a very nice hotel. The grounds are very pretty and when you pull up to the hotel It looks pristine. I had ants all over the comforter and the front desk told me they would come spray it and it will be okay. NO, I need another room. Mind you the front desk was annoyed with me that there were bugs and I wouldn’t accept someone to come and spray. After an hour in the room roaches appeared in the bathroom. Within a 20 minute period I killed 7 small roaches in the bathroom. After leaving the bathroom I had my flashlight out checking everything and there were little roaches crawling on the bar area and one walked through my daughter’s hairbrush. Needless to say, we left the hotel and booked a hotel that was not in the Riu brand ten minutes away and had a great time there. I am still horrified thinking about my rooms at the Riu and so are my kids analyzing every piece of lint to make sure it isn’t a bug. Might as well continue as this trip is fresh in my mind… The pools are hot like a bathtub and not refreshing whatsoever. I do get the climate is hot but other hotels nearby are not this way. The food is borderline awful. The buffet for lunch had flies all over and the food that should be hot was cold and the cold food was warm. They had hamburgers sitting in bowls of grease for self serve. Like legitimately halfway up the burgers. We went to one restaurant the night we were there and the food was slightly better but most of us didn’t really eat and ate bread with butter. The restaurants have 4 options on the menus that is it. Maybe the other restaurants were better as we only went to the Italian one, but I wouldn’t think it would be. Waterpark is not in the actual hotel it is in the Riu hotel complex which is a good 15 minute walk from Riu Palace. The rooms are rundown and need a serious overhaul. Like the mirrors were all faded and had markers all over them, faucets and shower heads had like mineral deposits on them. The walls had stains on them in certain places. The double bed rooms were two beds pushed together and you were not able to separate them. Really just needed a good update in the rooms we were in at least. Again it is seaweed season in August so it is beyond their control but they did nothing whatsoever to combat it. They didn’t clean it and there were like 1foot hills of seaweed all along the shoreline. Since it was just sitting in the heat it stunk like a decaying portapotty. You get what you pay for. I checked the reviews and did my due diligence before booking. I am convinced that people are either DELUSIONAL or being given something to write such positive reviews.
