Nice resort with exceptional staff
Spent 7 days there a week ago. Staff was the best ever ! Wasn't wild so liked that too. I liked the variety of food. Wife needs to eat gluten free (Celiac disease) and had a much more difficult time getting proper food. Was very little food for her to eat. Nice beach and pool. Plenty of lounge chairs and entertainment. Stayed on the resort since didn't want the constant hounding by locals trying to sell us stuff. Room was large. Huge and comfortable king size bed. Furnishing were outdated and most drawers were hard to open/close. Nice shower. Lots of free drinks and staff taking orders on the beach constantly. It was worth the money and getting away from the cold and snow !

Mixed Feelings
Where to start? It wasn't a bad holiday, just not one of the best. We were expecting a peaceful, relaxing experience from an adults-only hotel. No kids running around, which there weren't, but there were noisy adults. Noisy games around the pool, live music from poolside clashing with recorded music playing in the bar, and the planes! No reviews warned us about the low-flying planes which appeared 3 or 4 times an hour once they got going. No chance of falling asleep on a sunbed here. Also worth knowing that some of the rooms are only accessible by stairs, so if you have difficulty with stairs make sure you get one on a floor with lift access. The open plan bathroom design might be a problem too if you are a couple with different waking hours. Without a wall between the bathroom and the bedroom it's impossible for an early riser to wash, shave or brush teeth without waking a late-rising partner. Positives: the staff were all friendly. Special mentions to (and I apologise for spelling) Stringbean and Scion from the entertainment team, Jessica at the Aqua bar, Fellissa at the buffet and our room maid Angella who made amazing towel animals. Food was varied, we used the buffet for breakfast and lunch but only had one evening buffet meal (which was disappointing). The speciality restaurants were a mixed experience. We had filet mignon (meant to be one of the best steaks) at the steakhouse and it was tough. Some meals one night would be delicious but another night they were too dry, or over-salted. The Italian and Krystals were the best, though I think Krystals would benefit from a bigger choice of dishes. Not a hotel I would return to, unfortunately. Though having seen the Riu hotels either side, we got the best deal. You couldn't pay me to stay in the Riu Montego Bay or Riu Reggae, they were huge.

Amazing holiday. Would recommend!
The Riu Palace sits between two other Rius, Reggae and Montego Bay. Palace guests have access to all three, guests from the others can’t access the Palace, although you are free to walk the beach of all three. Transfers from Sangster took around 20 minutes. Air conditioned bus and friendly driver. You might be asked to tip, but it’s entirely up to you. You get a warm welcome, a glass of champagne on arrival, and a speedy check in. We got a room on the 3rd floor, no view except a service area, and the side of the neighbouring MoBay. We had no issue with this as the room was very clean, thanks to Sherene from the housekeeping team, though possibly in need of an update (its white and purple theme felt a little dated). There is a balcony with seating which is useful. The fridge was fully stocked with beer, water and soft drinks. There is a spirits dispenser containing rum which is always full. A coffee maker is provided, along with filter coffee (no milk, just creamer). This is restocked every day. Shower is spacious and stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Vanity area is well lit, with large mirrors and hair dryer, iron&board. A separate WC is next to the shower. Gowns and towels are provided. One thing I found odd was the bath which almost felt like it was in the middle of the room. Always made me smile to wake up in the morning and see a bath, but it’s not terrible - just odd to me. Plenty of storage and hangers (we had 12 rather than the usual 4 or 6 in lots of hotels). The bed was comfortable and a blanket can be found in the wardrobe if you need something heavier than a sheet. There’s a sofa and coffee table, as well as a separate table and chairs. Air conditioning was good and the patio doors were soundproof so we couldn’t hear the traffic. Food in the restaurant was really good some days, amazing on others. Great choice and plentiful, if you’ve stayed in other Rius, you’ll know what I mean. Selection of speciality restaurants too (book via the app) Pool areas are spotless and you will always find a lounger. The pool bar area is the busiest but there are plenty of quieter spots and another pool if you want to avoid the occasional entertainment noise. The entertainment and wait staff make this hotel a really warm and welcoming place. Special mention to Genius, Johnny Bravo and Stringbean for keeping the energy fun and taking time to talk to everyone..You can visit the other hotels if you want to take part in their activities (use the Riu app to see what’s on). More chilled vibe, variety of ages. Best out of the 3 Rius - ran out it space!!!

GREAT TRIP!
We had a GREAT TIME with our stay at RIU Palace. the staff was GREAT food was Very Good overall, and our room was very nice and seemed very clean when we showed up and kept up good thru our stay! This was my second time back here and after talking to a Travel Agent who showed up after leaving 2 other resorts that was more expensive she was Pleasantly surprised at what you had to offer! She did not like the music at the pool during and after the foam party and in the pool area thru the weekend, but We were not offended or irritated about it. Liked the vibe at the pool and also had fun at the Pacha nightclub although the neon party was Packed and hot seemed like everyone was having a GREAT time. Will defiantly go back and would recommend !
