Annual Couple's Trip
The rooms in the resort are dated. The beds are low to the ground and the mattress hurts your back. The staff uses the guest elevators instead of service elevators. The specialty restaurants are hard to get in. Most of the staff is friendly. overall it was a good trip, but will not return to this resort.

Absolutely Amazing
From the moment we arrived at The RIU Palace, we were treated to world-class service and hospitality. The check-in process was smooth and welcoming, with staff offering champagne. The buffet was amazing. They had a wide variety of options, including local specialties. The staff (Horace, Bree, and Dr. Phil, and the rest of the crew) made our Retirement Celebration with my classmates so Amazing, Beautiful, and Wonderful. I am so truly grateful for the decorations and cake. We will definitely come back to The RIU Palace and we will bring more people.

Not the best Riu experience
For context, this is the 19th Riu hotel we have visited and are Riu Class Gold members which has afforded us some excellent benefits in recognition of our loyalty including regular complementary room upgrades. This was not the case at Riu Palace Jamaica where there appeared to be little acknowledgement of brand loyalty. At check in, our host was very keen to point out that our room would not be upgraded - before we had even mentioned it! We asked that an upgrade be considered if one became available and were subsequently contacted by another receptionist who suggested there may be an upgrade available in a couple of days. A note came through the door after 4 days asking us to call at reception regarding our upgrade which we did, only to be told by another member of staff, somewhat confusingly, that we could change rooms to one of the same category, but not receive an upgrade. Obviously we refused. Communication between staff was obviously not on point as the receptionist who had originally suggested an upgrade was available then contacted us again the following day to advise one was available. By this time we were 6 nights into an 11 night holiday and could not be bothered with all the upheaval, so declined the offer. Thank you though to Layana (hope I’ve spelt that correctly) for your assistance. It was disappointing to learn subsequently that numerous first time visitors to a Riu hotel had been given complementary upgrades, one example of which being noted by fantasticmama2025 in her recent review. As far as other aspects of our stay are concerned, there were a number of positives including the food and drink offerings which were very good, the bar and waiting staff who were excellent, the entertainment staff who worked hard and the cleanliness of the rooms and public areas. Special shout out to Archer in the lobby bar who went above and beyond. Whilst it was quieter than the neighbouring Reggae and Montego Bay, we did find some of the large groups of guests in the hotel quite loud and disrespectful of others. It is impossible not to compare it to other Riu hotels we have visited, and whilst the overall experience was not the best, it was not the worst either, hence our 3 star rating. It was not as “palatial” and did not have the wow factor of other palaces although the speciality restaurants were nicely presented. However it seemed very much to us that they didn’t care about our long term loyalty to Riu and we certainly won’t be rushing back.

Would Stay Again
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. It was located very close to the airport. I ate mostly the Jamaica offered foods and each meal was delicious. There is always a lot of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I like I had access to both of RIU resorts. The Palace is the calmer one which I liked. When I wanted a turn up I was able to take a short walk to it. They do offer some free water sports. The day and time I planned for it the beach was on a red flag. The staff is very friendly. The only things I didn’t like but wasn’t a deal breaker: I wish the pool DJ played more Caribbean music.( I only went to the pool at 2pm for the Reggae band). Housekeeping give out the daily word every night. Unfortunately, I only received it twice. It would have been nice if it was left in the room each day. Finally, the beds are very hard and the king bed is two full push together. It held together by a king sheet.

Exceptional service
Arriving at Riu Palace the hospitality was from getting our luggage inside to being greeted with a beverage at the counter while checking in was over the top experience for a first time guest at a Riu resort. Another perk our room was upgraded to a fabulous view over looking the court yard. Our housekeeper Shonie was great with meeting our needs and keeping our room well stocked and clean with fresh linen. The staff at the restaurants were very friendly and attentive to anything we need or desire while we stayed at the resort. The best is the entertainment, the staff knows how to keep the crowd entertained and engaged. I will definitely recommend and stay here again and again!!! Well done Riu for making my birthday celebration a time to remember!
