  My Stay at RIU Ocho Rios

  I had a lovely stay at RIU Ocho Rios for our Teachers Day treat. First, the ambiance from front desk personnel to how well the housekeeper Abigale set up the room so inviting and breath taking. We did not want to take off the swan or petals off bed. Immaclately clean the room was. But the last day I was so disappointed, I got a fried paper for bacon strips. I spoke to dinning room supervisor and I was not pleased with response because if it was a overseas guest they would be given priority treatment. The head manager came but my stomach was turned from the food and even though she asked what they can do for me, all, I wanted was to go home to how disappointed I was. Please ensure the bacon strips paper is taken off properly before putting out. Thanks a million RIU Ocho Rios for a lovely staycation.

  Second time around

  Returned having stayed here last year and really enjoyed the experience. This year was different as the hotel wasn't as full and it was noticeable. The staff were all amazing. House keeping 10/10. Ground staff 10/10. Cleaning staff 10/10. On arrival checking was speedy and welcoming. Headed straight to our rooms and hit the dining area St Ann after a long flight. We found the drinks at the bar for teetotal guests was just syrup spritzers. The "fruit" smoothies...no fruit just syrups. No fruit juices anywhere. Even in the restaurant no fresh juices just syrups with water or sodas. Breakfast in St Ann was good. All the treats available. Porridge, toast, cereals, pasties, cooked breakfasts, abundance of different fresh fruit which was my favourite first thing in the morning. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. By the time lunch time came around it was mainly the salad bar and fruit station which was well stocked with fresh salads I.E. Pasta salads, potato salad sushi etc. The Jamaican stations always had long queue and were always filled with great dishes namely curry goat, jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish and patties. A great opportunity to try dishes you wouldn't cook at home. Our waitress server for our stay was very good and always had a smile. Very attentive and knew what we liked first thing and always made sure to have it ready which made our visit enjoyable. However not all the staff had the same mentality. The restaurant staff behind the counter and front of house worked very hard to make everyone have a good time. No matter what your favourites were they were there. . .pizza, pasta, roast meats, Asian station, fried, poached, scrambled, Omelettes eggs at three stations. Lunch and dinner the ice cream section was akways a scramble to get to the waffle cones before they disappeared the second they were put out. Great choice of delicious flavours though. The resturant in the evening were okay. Didn't find any of the speciality restaurants special. I found the food advertised wasn't reflected in the presentation and showed it wasn't necessarily cooked from scratch. I just wished the dress code policy had been adhered to though. Having to bring sanitiser wipes everything I entered the dining areas to clean the seats of someone else body fluids wasn't my idea of fun when the woman came in wearing beach wear and not evening attire. Saw a maitre in the Mandelay resturant try and stop a group entering to no avail. My favourite area to relax was the adult only swim up bar area. Quieter with few children and no noisy activities. Plenty of loungers. The other main pool which could be found near Pepe's jerk station near St Ann restaurant was full of entertainingactivities. They also had a volleyball pool and the Rui land play area away from the main pool which was very quite. There is also soft play indoor activities. Sitting area ideal for quiet reading. The gym and spa were also available and received high praise and recommendations from other members of our group. The grounds are well kept and there is a pool which has 4 turtles and fish. Many varieties of birds can also be found on the grounds together with small gekos. Evening entertainment was great. It was just a shame there was very little to do after 11pm and just the 24hour sports bar. The negative feedback is the maintenance of the lifts is a necessity as they were always out of order. As much as the staff tried there best to prevent food being removed from the food areas it made the walk ways leading to the rooms shabby with piles of plates and food left on the floors or window ledges bring ants and roaches. The rooms are large with coffee maker, well stocked mini bar, with water, red strip and sodas. And a choice of rum, vodka, whisky and gin on tap. We took full advantage of the tours which could be booked in reception. Dunn's River and trip to Ochi Rio Town centre. Only thing you need to plan well. The trip to Appleton estate rum tasting YS falls and (the very disappointing) pelican bar is way too far for the time stated. Not at all realistic. All in all I enjoyed my stay with friends. Just found some of the other guests somewhat loud and brash.

  Amazing hotel

  The hotel is located in a great location, the hotel grounds are kept in immaculate condition. All the staff from the maintenance team to the reception staff are super helpful and will stop to assist you.The housekeeping team are 10/10 no issues with the housekeeping service. The entertainment staff were good and try to get everyone involved with the activities. The only downfall would be the adult entertainment tend start around 9-10pm and finish at 11pm which is quite early and there is not much else to do in the hotel late at night other than the sports bar for drinks which does get busy. The food was good our whole stay no issues. It doesn’t get abit repetitive some nights, so I would definitely recommend eating out some nights. The staff at the hotel were helpful with restaurant recommendations. Definitely book the restaurants in advance as we found it difficult to get reservations at times. Overall it is very nice hotel and the service quality is amazing. It didn’t feel like a family resort and it didn’t feel like a adults only either, they have a really good balance of both with separate pools and facilities which is great if you’d like space from children. The only slight issue I found is the hotels caters more towards American tourists.
