  Family getaway

  The only issue which is very minor was there were no elevators in the building we were in- which in no way effected our trip. Staff was amazing as was the food especially in the Italian restaurant, the chicken was outstanding. Would definitely stay here again.

  Honest Family Vacation Review with 3 Toddlers

  Family vacation with 7 people total with 3 toddlers. Upon arrival our room was not ready,checkin was not until after 4, a bit of a set back but we were able to grab lunch and utilize the grounds. We were set in the family tower which has no elevators. Imagine going up flights of stairs with a double stroller, beach toys, floaties and towels. Not ideal. We were offered to switch rooms but it was too much work to repack and lug everything down so we just managed it. Hotel rooms were always restocked and clean. Spacious rooms, not the most comfortable beds. Sink was clogged from day 1. Mould by shower. Hotel grounds were easily accessible and well groomed. A la carts were a good option but nothing amazing. No seafood at all which was disappointing. Buffet food was plentiful, fresh and many options. It was nice to get local dishes daily, although you may need your own pepper sauce to spice it up. Customer service lacked greatly. I have been to many resorts throughout the Caribbean and I’ve never met a team of people who didn’t value you and could care less to greet you. A lot of workers were rude. In an industry of hospitality this resorts lacks just that. I inquired about a day pass for family and non chalantly was told they stopped doing that. It didn’t sit right with me, did another inquiry to find out in fact it was available. So while we paid $120usd per visitor for the day, it would be nice if the pass could include dinner to be able to have more time with loved ones. Children’s play areas both indoors and outdoors were great, no complaints. The nightly entertainment for children was lacking a bit, our 2,4,5 year olds enjoyed the disco in another country far better. The beach and pool were always clean, many loungers available. There is a 24hr sports bar that offers fresh salads, wraps, baked goods and fresh cut fruit. This was very helpful especially with a very early morning flight. The most consistent service we received was from our housekeeper Camesa and waitress Tashmarie. I may return to Jamaica but I may not return here.

  AN ABSOLUTE PARADISE

  My stay at the RIU in Ocho Rios was amazing. I enjoyed my time; the staff was great, the food was exceptional, and the entertainment was off the charts. Great, Housing did an excellent job. Overall, my experience was great.

  Lower your expectations and you’ll be ok

  Housekeeping does not thoroughly clean between guests. Beware. Also, the room is old and outdated and does not look like the website pictures. It’s more like an holiday inn vs. a luxury resort beyond the lobby which has been refurbished. Imagine peeling paint, rusted refrigerators with fingerprints all over from not being wiped, liquor stained wood not wiped between guests, the floor was gritty and dirty and I could go on. When I asked for cleaning to occur the housekeeping supervisor and staff gaslit and said that’s basically quality of things in Jamaica and then acted as though I was inconveniencing them. The front desk cashier was rude when I asked for a manager. What’s saves this resort and reason I gave 2 stars is the location, and the entertainment staff is 5 stars! They work for their money and to ensure you have a good time!!! The bartenders are nice and eager to serve. The two people who checked us in were very welcoming. They need better dabs in lobby and also the buffet was quite chaotic with items often missing and no one was manning to ensure continual replenished items. You’ll have fun but bring your own cleaning supplies! And shame on RUU for not updating clearly rusted outdated room items especially for what they charge per person.

  extremely poor with no regard for guests

  overall, the best part of this resort was the property and beach space. along with that, the excursions provided by Scuba Caribe. the staff at the front desk as well as in the resort in general were quite rude and dismissive as if putting in a request for their aid or asking a simple request for directions was a bother to their day. aside from poor customer service, attached are photos/videos of roaches as well as poor maintenance AFTER an alleged room cleaning. my wife and i had asked to have rooms changed and still ended up with a different room that still had roaches, then also had the headache of checking out and having to check back in to get said new room. the hoots of the bed and bathroom were taken after coming back to the room for the first time since it had been “cleaned” in the morning……quite frustrated and disappointed in my stay for our 30th anniversary.
