3rd time NOT a charm!
This was our third time coming to this resort and we were super excited to see the renovations and get our Jamaican vibe on as this resort knows how. Sadly, it didn’t happen. The renovations were ok, nothing jaw dropping. Still lacking in number of washrooms especially near the beach. The negatives: The entertainment team wasn’t as lively and active as they once were. The staff don’t look happy working and the service has seriously dropped. This made all the worse since it wasn’t that busy during our time there. Wheelchair needed because room was at the farthest end and suffering from bursitis and arthritis. Hotel doesn’t offer these as courtesy like most hotel chains. They charge $45 USD per day. Lack of service from front desk. It took them days and constant follow ups to finally move us. Safe broken and despite calling and going to front desk many times over the course of several hours, the only way we got someone to fix it was because he was standing at the front desk. The staff at front desk were rude and basically told us that people are busy working and have no time for us. They’ll get to it when they can. Meanwhile any time we requested we were told someone would be with us immediately. Don’t say that if you don’t mean it as you left us handcuffed to the room waiting. Power constantly goes out throughout the day and night which disabled the wifi, air condition and television. Overall, the constant power outages were frustrating for the staff as well. Now that I’m done ranting about all the negative, I will state the positives: Food was incredible with tons of variety. Buffet changes over every night and lots to choose from different countries. My absolute favorite was the Jamaican station with classic dishes like oxtail, curry goat, rice and peas, jerk, etc. Gourmet a la carte was good but portions are very small and the food was a little too salty. The Asian restaurant was essentially an Asian buffet but the food was good. The beach is glorious! Cleaned daily and well kept. Lots of palm trees to provide shade. Only negative I’ll give here (other than no washrooms nearby) is the entertainment team no longer plays music on the beach and only keeps it to the pool. My husband suggested they turn one of the two speakers toward the beach to rectify it but he only received nods and zero action. The junior suite is really nice. Renovations well done in these rooms. Well laid out and quite spacious. The cleaning staff are immaculate! The rooms were cleaned promptly and the staff are super friendly. Nightly entertainment remains good. Something for the kids then live reggae band playing amazing music. They do a pre show that includes the guests by way of trivia, karaoke, contests and then they start the actual show. The place was packed each night and definitely had a great vibe (not as good as it once was but still very good). Overall, this is a great resort but not as good as it once was. This can only be attributed to the poor service and lack of entertainment engagement. Fix that and this resort is the best in Jamaica as it once was.

A wonderful experience
I first visited this hotel last year and was so impressed, I couldn't wait to return this year. Everything was as I expected it to be. Good food, lovely staff and lots to do.

A great resort holiday experience but read on…
We had a great holiday. The rooms were very good on space. Air con worked and the daily cleaning was great The buffet food was very good though at times only warm, not hot. And the staff were generally pleasant and attentive. If you tipped, you got better service. I am from the UK and normally tip at the end of my stay. The entertainment team were very hardworking people and brilliant at keeping everyone happy. And the reggae band was my favourite part of the holiday, excellent musicians and great entertainment! The gourmet restaurant however was the low point. We were made to wait outside in a queue for 25 minutes. Then waited another 30 minutes for food. An 8:30 table reservation got our first food at 9:30! And when the food arrived, one lobster dish had a hair on top of it, yuk! The food whilst taste was ok but seemed like it was pre-cooked and warmed rather than fresh cooked. Puddings were similar. The waiter service was polite but slow, understaffed perhaps, and the food was not god enough. For this reason we didn’t bother using the other restaurants and just ate at the buffet, and the excellent Jerk chicken station by the pool. The other problem was that half way through our holiday a team of workmen started to demolish sections of the stage with heavy pneumatic equipment! This was some sort of stage upgrade which we were not pre warned about and so from then on we couldn’t use that section of the resort because of noise and dust. The entertainment was moved to the hotel foyer. I think we should have been pre warned about this and we could have booked different weeks. Lack of first aid kits. When my son got injured during a volley ball game, he was walked from lifeguard station to lifeguard station in search of basic items to clean and dress his wound. The kits were incomplete or empty so my wife who is a nurse luckily had bought the necessary antiseptic and gauze to dress wounds. But this whole process from injury to being sorted out took an hour. The final point is that some guests did not know how to manage their alcohol consumption. And one guest in particular was out of control pretty much every time we encountered him. He removed his shirt at one nights show at the front of the stage and started spinning it above his head. He barged past my group one night, pushing us out of the way to get to the stage. He got on the stage and insisted on being photographed with the performer. It all ended for him when we saw him restrained by several staff after accounting a woman in the bar pool. We didn’t see him again so hopefully he was removed from the hotel. However, he should have been dealt with sooner and perhaps had this alcohol intake curtailed or asked to leave. Guests like that will obviously come to these places but a clear policy to manage bad behaviour would be appreciated by all I think. Overall we enjoyed our holiday, and whilst I have pointed out some issues, I would consider TUI again. I would do more research about some of the points mentioned before booking. All said and done, we had a great holiday at Rui Ochi. Tip: Save a fortune on excursions by going with a local company. David at Golden_tours_ja was recommended to us by a friend and he was brilliant. So much cheaper and great personal service. We compared the tour operator we went with, the local hotel taxi rank and this recommendation worked out to be the best for us as a group of six. Fantastic!

We have stayed in this hotel before ,but this is the first time we have been back after your refurbishment .We found it to be less personal, and a bit crowded ,without the other food places,.Staff are always fantastic, we dealt manily with stacey and a young man javan who were both very professional and helpful.Apart from a few power cuts ,which cant be helped we had a fantastic time. Also the grounds are kept so well .Thank you.
