    5/10 For an All Inclusive

We went on a girl's trip first week of Feb 2025. I'll say, having stayed at several all inclusive resorts, this was definitely my least favorite. If it were my first all inclusive, I may not be as bothered by some of the things. I'll say for starters, aesthetically, it was great for what we went for. Perfect for a girls trip. Staff was very friendly and the room was clean. We reserved an ocean view room and somehow ended up with a garden view, fine. We had read reviews that said we needed to make sure to book reservations for restaurants, so the first thing we did after we got settled in, was try to book. Trouble was, there were no available reservations at any of the restaurants for our entire 5 days except one night at the steakhouse, it wasn't good. None of us liked our meal. The steak was tough, dry and no flavor. There are 2 places to eat if you don't have reservations. The Golden Dragon asian style buffet or the main buffet. So we went to Golden Dragon once and every other meal was at the main buffet. Oh we also had the one nights reservation at the steakhouse. I will say the food there was good and had a fantastic selection. However, when you're paying for all inclusive, you expect to at least have the opportunity to use all the amenities. I also didn't get drunk one single time lol. Yes there was a selection of liquor and Red Stripe in the room, nothing I would think and I acknowledge if I like the drink choices I would have been hammered the whole time. Johnny Walker, Rum (a brand I don't care for), Gin (I hate all gin) and Smirnoff Vodka. When I'm all inclusive I typically get my drinks at bars around the resort. Those drinks were super weak. I had a few and got zero buzz. I won't hold it TOO much against them, I could have drank more, I just chose not to. The beds... Horrible! Hard as a rock! Got very little sleep the whole time. Entertainment was just, so so. Nothing I can even tell you was exciting. There may have been things going on after 10, but after dinner it was always kinda dead so we pretty much turned in around 930 every night. All in all it wasn't TERRIBLE, but I will never book there again and probably never with RIU again at any location.

Feedback on My Stay at RUI, January 2025

Upon our initial arrival, the hotel presented a promising first impression. The grounds were meticulously maintained, and the staff were friendly, professional, and attentive. However, there were several aspects of our experience that did not meet expectations. Food: The food was by far the most disappointing aspect of our stay. As a chef of a Caribbean restaurant in the UK, I was hoping to experience authentic Jamaican cuisine, but unfortunately, there was very little that represented the true flavors of Jamaica. What little Jamaican food was offered was substandard, lacking the distinct heat and flavor we had anticipated. To our dismay, there was no use of scotch bonnet pepper in any dishes – a vital component of Jamaican cooking. Furthermore, several of the other restaurants requiring reservations were fully booked upon check-in, which left us with limited dining options. The quality of the food also felt inconsistent, with items often being recycled from previous meals. We did not find much fresh seafood, prawns, or fruit – it appeared much of the produce was canned or not fresh. To improve the culinary offerings, I recommend opening a dedicated Jamaican restaurant rather than focusing on an Asian-themed venue. It’s Jamaica, after all, and it would provide a more authentic experience for guests seeking local flavors. Drinks: The drinks were also a letdown, as they were sometimes diluted or filled with excessive ice. There was no Jamaican ginger beer or sorrel available, which felt like an essential part of the local experience that was sorely missing from the beverage menu. Safety Concerns: On two occasions, I witnessed intoxicated individuals in the sea, behaving recklessly, including vomiting in the water. Unfortunately, there were no lifeguards present at these times, and no staff members seemed to be monitoring the situation. This raised concerns regarding the safety and supervision of guests, particularly in the water. Cultural Experience: While I understand the American influence in tourism to Jamaica, I was disappointed by the overly Americanized atmosphere at the hotel. Many of the staff switched between American and Jamaican accents, depending on the guests they were interacting with. Personally, I felt that this detracted from the authentic Jamaican experience I was hoping to have. I would have appreciated hearing Jamaican Patois throughout my stay, both with guests and among colleagues, to provide a more genuine atmosphere. Beach: The beach was another area of concern. The water was plagued with seaweed, making it unappealing to swim in. Additionally, the water quality seemed poor, and I was left wondering whether there might have been sewage contamination. As a result, I observed that few guests ventured into the sea. Conclusion: I spent nearly £2000 for a week’s stay, with high expectations of experiencing the best that Jamaica has to offer. Unfortunately, my stay did not meet those expectations. I was hoping for sunshine, clear waters, flavorful food with spice, fresh local fruit, and an authentic Jamaican experience. Regrettably, the RUI hotel fell short in many of these areas. I hope my feedback can help improve the overall guest experience, particularly for those seeking a true Jamaican experience.

    enjoyable time

Resort was enjoyable and staff friendly and engaging. Some restaurants were loud and disappointing that they relayed on use of your phone to order food. We were hoping to disengage from our phones. Also disappointing that one of the reservation restaurants was buffet style. When we arrived it was a big party atmosphere more than we expected but during the week it calmed down and was great!

    Riu Jan. 2025

Wry nice over all. Pools very clean well kept, bars excellent and well staffed, service there very good, everyone very friendly. Food at restaurants very good, very tasty, except not a great fan of Italian restaurants. Lasagna was a bit tasteless and gluey, seafood there only standard. Beach sand was apparently all trucked in, must have washed out during last hurricane, and as a result just beyond the waters edge there was nothing but mud. The water was terribly cloudy, even out by the swimming limits buoys. I would like to see sunfish sailing boats at a resort like this, also kayaks, snorkeling at this resort beach was terrible, could see maybe 2’. Most of the entertainment was OK, the local stuff didn’t interest me.
