  Riu Montego Bay

  Stayed in the Riu montego bay in Jamaica over the New Year period. Hired a car and did a road trip to see Bob Marleys home, Rick's Cafe and the museum. Fun day had.

  Great holiday

  Rooms where clean service was really good. Food and drink was amazing. Only thing that spoiled this experience was the really loud guests.

  A wonderful stay!

  We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Riu Montego Bay. We spent two relaxing days at the hotel, lounging at the beach, and spent the other two days on tours: one day to Dunn's River Falls, Ocho Rios for lunch and Bob Marley at 9 Mile, and the other day to Negril 7-Mile Beach and Rick's Cafe. Riu Montego Bay is a huge resort. It also hosts the White and Neon Theme Parties on Fridays and Saturdays, and guests from the nearby Riu Palace and Riu Reggae are also welcome, so it does get crowded. But it was fun. We enjoyed the parties, as well as some of the documentaries, and other shows. There is some noise from the nearby airport. *The hotel: The grounds are beautiful and clean. There are multiple pools, but we chose the beach. There are beach chairs available, and beach towels are provided at a kiosk. I was surprised there were no umbrellas though. *The room: spacious enough, with a comfortable bed, thick towels, bath robes. There was some counter space around the double sink for toiletries. We basically had everything we needed. When we run out of water, we placed a request at the reception and it was fulfilled promptly. *Service: The service was in general very good. *The Food: We dined at the Rose Hall (buffet) - there are multiple cooking stations, for fish, grill, Jamaican dishes, and more. Unbelievable variety, something for everyone. The food we tried was flavorful - jerk chicken, rice & peas, steak, calamari, mussels, curry goat, fried chicken. There was a variety of desserts as well, some better than others. We also dined at the Kulinarium - beautiful setup, good service, flavorful dishes but....... the smallest portions I've ever seen.. the main course was 5 bites. The appetizer and dessert, 3 bites. On our last night we dined at the Steak house. We got the mix grill for 2. It was flavorful and enough for 2 people. *Alcoholic Drinks: The drinks were average. *Booking Tours: there are a few options for booking tours at the hotel lobby, if you don't book them online ahead of time. However, our plans were dependent on other people because the tour we were supposed to go on was cancelled because one other person cancelled their reservation, and they had a minimum of 10 people. So we were left scrambling to find another tour the day before. This was through Delta Vacations, not the hotel itself. *The Beach: the beach was beautiful but the water was not clear; lots of sea weeds too. Would I stay here again? Yes, if i get a good deal, i would. We liked the variety of dining options, the service, the atmosphere, and the easy access to entertainment without venturing out at night.

  Disappointed in my stay.

  I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent stay at RIU Montego Bay and to request a refund for one night due to significant service and amenity issues that were not resolved in a timely manner. Day of Arrival Issues: Upon arrival, I experienced multiple problems that negatively impacted my stay: My phone did not work My television was set to Spanish, which I do not speak My key card did not work There were no functioning elevators No welcome drink or cool towel was offered Only the sports bar was open, and they had run out of food, offering only stale tortilla chips Considering the price paid, this level of service was unacceptable. Day 2 – After Being Moved to a New Room: I was moved to a new room as promised; however, the room did not include the amenities I paid for, including: Empty mini bar Empty refrigerator with no drinks No coffee or tea No bathrobes No working elevators in the new building I have photos to support these claims. These issues were not rectified until after 2:30 PM on 12/29, the day after I moved to the new room, meaning I effectively lost the use of the amenities for a full day. This was especially disappointing as this is my fifth RIU property visit, including: RIU Playa Blanca RIU Reggae (twice, and a favorite) RIU Ocho Rios RIU Negril I have never been as disappointed as I was during this stay at RIU Montego Bay. I travel with an expectation of a specific RIU standard, and unfortunately, that standard was completely missed.

  Excellent Vacation!

  The food was great, room was clean, staff was friendly as always in Jamaica. Only negative is we booked a king size bed and the room had two double beds shoved together AND they were made separately so the sheets were on each bed separately - weird. Oraine in the steakhouse was super helpful and was attentive to our needs (husband is blind). Entertainment crew were amazing especially Rolly Polly - they can all really dance!! Karaoke night and the white party were lots of fun. Flight issues - booked with Sunwing and prepaid for front row seats because my husbands mobility issues. Ended up In the last row of the plane on the way down which was loud and the seats didn’t recline so my husband was nauseous when we landed then we ended up in row 7 on the way home. Will be going after Sunwing for a refund for prepaid seats for sure.
