    Friendly Costa Rica

    I travelled again with my sister and this time a school friend. We travelled with Sunwing Elite Plus. amazing service and great flight. Our room was oceanview on 3rd floor..our two double beds as my friend had her own room. Yes shower is dark and the pillows are small but you're on holidays...no complaining from us...we stuck to the pool as we did the beach a couple of days and found it very hot..vendors are very respectful and one no thank you is enough. the pool was very busy but found a nice spot and chairs were plentiful... We had Lita as a server and she was amazing. Did the Asian and Italian but we stuck to the buffet mostly because we became quite fond of Randall...such an amazing server and artist. The Libera staff was amazing including manager Milton. Did one excursion and that was the Palo Verde Park/boat tour. Kim our Sunwing rep was just awesome....merci Kim pout tout.Unfortunately had to use the medical facility on site and Dr. Gustavo Rivera Elizondo was very professional and took real good care of my excursion mishap. Lots of walking...lots of bars and food also at sports bar 24h. Enternaiment was good...we met the energetic Brian and we did attend a few shows but mostly watched from our balcony as we could hear and see some of the shows from there. Check out was a breeze...great crew from Sunwing for our return home. Would recommend this hotel for sure....we like to try a new destination every year.....so not sure I would go back but Riu is amazing.

    short but sweet

    Well we had a couple of days here as we ended up having to move to the palace as the braoders to costa rica got closed . and we loved this over the palace so was glad i couldnt get in the palace in the first place and when we come back it will be this one we book.

    Beware, RIU Guanacaste will not honor their refund policy.

    My review of the property is strictly business. We stayed at the Hotel RIU Negril in Jamaica several years ago, in fact my son and daughter in law had their wedding there. We had no complaints and enjoyed our stay. We've traveled extensively in recent years, booked much of my travel directly with resorts and much through Expedia, and have never experienced a property refusing to refund according to their policy. We had a 4 night stay reserved and prepaid in full for late February. We unexpectedly had a family member hospitalized and we needed to reschedule our stay to a later time. We have every intention of making this trip at a later time. I called the Hotel RIU Guanacaste one day past the deadline for a full refund. I was hoping that they would allow us to reschedule due to our situation, much like an airline would. At worst, we would have to forfeit 2 nights payment since we had missed the cutoff date by a day. I called the RIU directly days before we were to arrive to explain our situation. They would not talk to me at all since I had gone through a "third party", Expedia. I did not have a RIU confirmation number. They told me I'd have to work with Expedia. I immediately called Expedia, talked to several people, a string of email between them and me. Expedia customer service told me several times that they were unable to contact or talk to anyone at the hotel. It's been more than a month, and the Hotel RIU Guanacaste and Expedia have not refunded anything. This is absolutely unacceptable and I've never experienced anything like it. A resort owes me a refund but won't talk directly to me. Expedia charged me, not the resort, so they should be on the hook to make this good. We're planning to make this trip in a few months, whenever travel becomes viable. but unless this is rectified quickly, I'd never consider a RIU, and will in fact post warnings all over social media and with travel groups and sites. This was right before COVID 19 began to affect all travel, so that is not a reason for a resort to ignore rules.

    After reading some reviews about the hotel, I must admit was a bit worried. But there was no need, hotel clean food was good and varied staff were friendly especially angel in the sports bar really nice guy always a smile on his face.the only one thing is it would be nice to have coffee making facilities in room, if you wanted a coffee had to go downstairs for one. But would definitely go back

    Not a great vacation

    I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone going to Costa Rica, to start things off our room wasn't ready, so we had to change our room on the first day of our vacation, then that room wasn't ready! They told me that I just wouldn't have a room for three hours, and I could keep my bags behind the front desk. This situation actually prevented us from doing our planned activities that day. Also, there is nothing open to eat between 11-noon, and if you want to eat past 10 PM well they have frozen hotdogs and burgers and a microwave! We called one night for the resort to fill our fridge up with beer and one night they told us that that company leaves at 6 and they couldn't bring up anything for us, another night it took them 2 hours to bring up a few beers. The food wasn't anything special, and the pool was repulsive. There were a few more minor inconveniences, because of this stay I will not stay at another Riu and I personally will never book another all-inclusive resort because of this trip.
